A factorization of a super-conformal map
A super-conformal map and a minimal surface are factored into a product of
two maps by modeling the Euclidean four-space and the complex Euclidean plane
on the set of all quaternions. One of these two maps is a holomorphic map or a
meromorphic map. These conformal maps adopt properties of a holomorphic
function or a meromorphic function. Analogs of the Liouville theorem, the
Schwarz lemma, the Schwarz-Pick theorem, the Weierstrass factorization theorem,
the Abel-Jacobi theorem, and a relation between zeros of a minimal surface and

We investigate the quantum three spin model
of spin on a triangle, in which spins are coupled with
lattice-vibrational modes through the exchange interaction depending on
distances between spin sites. The present model corresponds to the dynamic
Jahn-Teller system proposed by Longuet-Higgins {\it et al.},
Proc.R.Soc.A.{\bf 244},1(1958). This correspondence is revealed by using the
transformation to Nakamura-Bishop's bases proposed in Phys.Rev.Lett.{\bf

Bubble burst as jamming phase transition
Recently research on bubble and its burst attract much interest of
researchers in various field such as economics and physics. Economists have
been regarding bubble as a disorder in prices. However, this research strategy
has overlooked an importance of the volume of transactions. In this paper, we
have proposed a bubble burst model by focusing the transactions incorporating a
traffic model that represents spontaneous traffic jam. We find that the
phenomenon of bubble burst shares many similar properties with traffic jam
formation by comparing data taken from US housing market. Our result suggests
that the transaction could be a driving force of bursting phenomenon.Comment: 9 pages,12 figure
Inhibitory Effects of Anti-VEGF Antibody on the Growth and Angiogenesis of Estrogen-induced Pituitary Prolactinoma in Fischer 344 Rats: Animal Model of VEGF-targeted Therapy for Human Endocrine Tumors
Estrogen-induced pituitary prolactin-producing tumors (PRLoma) in F344 rats express a high level of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) associated with marked angiogenesis and angiectasis. To investigate whether tumor development in E2-induced PRLoma is inhibited by anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody (G6-31), we evaluated tumor growth and observed the vascular structures. With simultaneous treatment with G6-31 for the latter three weeks of the 13-week period of E2 stimulation (E2+G6-31 group), the following inhibitory effects on the PRLoma were observed in the E2+G6-31 group as compared with the E2-only group. In the E2+G6-31 group, a tendency to reduction in pituitary weight was observed and significant differences were observed as (1) reductions in the Ki-67-positive anterior cells, (2) increases in TUNEL-positive anterior cells, and (3) repair of the microvessel count by CD34-immunohistochemistry. The characteristic “blood lakes” in PRLomas were improved and replaced by repaired microvascular structures on 3D observation using confocal laser scanning microscope. These inhibitory effects due to anti-VEGF antibody might be related to the autocrine/paracrine action of VEGF on the tumor cells, because VEGF and its receptor are co-expressed on the tumor cells. Thus, our results demonstrate that anti-VEGF antibody exerted inhibitory effects on pituitary tumorigenesis in well-established E2 induced PRLomas
Large-Theta(13) Perturbation Theory of Neutrino Oscillation for Long-Baseline Experiments
The Cervera et al. formula, the best known approximate formula of neutrino
oscillation probability for long-baseline experiments, can be regarded as a
second-order perturbative formula with small expansion parameter epsilon \equiv
Delta m^2_{21} / Delta m^2_{31} \simeq 0.03 under the assumption s_{13} \simeq
epsilon. If theta_{13} is large, as suggested by a candidate nu_{e} event at
T2K as well as the recent global analyses, higher order corrections of s_{13}
to the formula would be needed for better accuracy. We compute the corrections
systematically by formulating a perturbative framework by taking theta_{13} as
s_{13} \sim \sqrt{epsilon} \simeq 0.18, which guarantees its validity in a wide
range of theta_{13} below the Chooz limit. We show on general ground that the
correction terms must be of order epsilon^2. Yet, they nicely fill the mismatch
between the approximate and the exact formulas at low energies and relatively
long baselines. General theorems are derived which serve for better
understanding of delta-dependence of the oscillation probability. Some

Simultaneous development of adenocarcinoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in the stomach: case report
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and adenocarcinoma are distinct neoplasms originating from different cell layers. Approximately 20% of patients with GIST develop other cancers.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>We report a case of the coexistence of adenocarcinoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). Gastric endoscopy showed the ulcerated tumor with bleeding along the lesser curvature of the proximal stomach and a submucosal nodule that measured about 3 cm in diameter in the lower part of the stomach body. Their pathological examination showed gastric cancer (poorly differentiated diffuse adenocarcinoma) and GIST (low-risk category). Further, immunohistochemical staining for C-kit and CD34 was positive, while that for SMA and S-100 was negative.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Although it is not easy to speculate on the coexistence of adenocarcinoma and GIST, pre-and post-operative diagnoses may be essential, and such cancer development is not considered to be unusual.</p
Growth and structure analysis of tungsten oxide nanorods using environmental TEM
WO3 nanorods targeted for applications in electric devices were grown from a tungsten wire heated in an oxygen atmosphere inside an environmental transmission electron microscope, which allowed the growth process to be observed to reveal the growth mechanism of the WO3 nanorods. The initial growth of the nanorods did not consist of tungsten oxide but rather crystal tungsten. The formed crystal tungsten nanorods were then oxidized, resulting in the formation of the tungsten oxide nanorods. Two mechanisms of the enhanced antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) efficacy of non-fucosylated therapeutic antibodies in human blood
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) has recently been identified as one of the critical mechanisms underlying the clinical efficacy of therapeutic antibodies, especially anticancer antibodies. Therapeutic antibodies fully lacking the core fucose of the Fc oligosaccharides have been found to exhibit much higher ADCC in humans than their fucosylated counterparts. However, data which show how fully non-fucosylated antibodies achieve such a high ADCC in human whole blood have not yet been disclosed. The precise mechanisms responsible for the high ADCC mediated by fully non-fucosylated therapeutic antibodies, even in the presence of human plasma, should be explained based on direct evidence of non-fucosylated antibody action in human blood.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Using a human <it>ex vivo </it>B-cell depletion assay with non-fucosylated and fucosylated anti-CD20 IgG1s rituximab, we monitored the binding of the therapeutic agents both to antigens on target cells (target side interaction) and to leukocyte receptors (FcγR) on effector cells (effector side interaction), comparing the intensities of ADCC in human blood.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In the target side interaction, down-modulation of CD20 on B cells mediated by anti-CD20 was not observed. Simple competition for binding to the antigens on target B cells between fucosylated and non-fucosylated anti-CD20s was detected in human blood to cause inhibition of the enhanced ADCC of non-fucosylated anti-CD20 by fucosylated anti-CD20. In the effector side interaction, non-fucosylated anti-CD20 showed sufficiently high FcγRIIIa binding activity to overcome competition from plasma IgG for binding to FcγRIIIa on natural killer (NK) cells, whereas the binding of fucosylated anti-CD20 to FcγRIIIa was almost abolished in the presence of human plasma and failed to recruit NK cells effectively. The core fucosylation levels of individual serum IgG1 from healthy donors was found to be so slightly different that it did not affect the inhibitory effect on the ADCC of fucosylated anti-CD20.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our results demonstrate that removal of fucosylated antibody ingredients from antibody therapeutics elicits high ADCC in human blood by two mechanisms: namely, by evading the inhibitory effects both of plasma IgG on FcγRIIIa binding (effector side interaction) and of fucosylated antibodies on antigen binding (target side interaction).</p
Two Novel Mutations in the EYS Gene Are Possible Major Causes of Autosomal Recessive Retinitis Pigmentosa in the Japanese Population
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a highly heterogeneous genetic disease including autosomal recessive (ar), autosomal dominant (ad), and X-linked inheritance. Recently, arRP has been associated with mutations in EYS (Eyes shut homolog), which is a major causative gene for this disease. This study was conducted to determine the spectrum and frequency of EYS mutations in 100 Japanese arRP patients. To determine the prevalence of EYS mutations, all EYS exons were screened for mutations by polymerase chain reaction amplification, and sequence analysis was performed. We detected 67 sequence alterations in EYS, of which 21 were novel. Of these, 7 were very likely pathogenic mutations, 6 were possible pathogenic mutations, and 54 were predicted non-pathogenic sequence alterations. The minimum observed prevalence of distinct EYS mutations in our study was 18% (18/100, comprising 9 patients with 2 very likely pathogenic mutations and the remaining 9 with only one such mutation). Among these mutations, 2 novel truncating mutations, c.4957_4958insA (p.S1653KfsX2) and c.8868C>A (p.Y2956X), were identified in 16 patients and accounted for 57.1% (20/35 alleles) of the mutated alleles. Although these 2 truncating mutations were not detected in Japanese patients with adRP or Leber's congenital amaurosis, we detected them in Korean arRP patients. Similar to Japanese arRP results, the c.4957_4958insA mutation was more frequently detected than the c.8868C>A mutation. The 18% estimated prevalence of very likely pathogenic mutations in our study suggests a major involvement of EYS in the pathogenesis of arRP in the Japanese population. Mutation spectrum of EYS in 100 Japanese patients, including 13 distinct very likely and possible pathogenic mutations, was largely different from the previously reported spectrum in patients from non-Asian populations. Screening for c.4957_4958insA and c.8868C>A mutations in the EYS gene may therefore be very effective for the genetic testing and counseling of RP patients in Japan
