Reinforcement of RC structure by carbon fibers

    No full text
In recent years, rehabilitation has been the subject of extensive research due to the increased spending on building maintenance work and restoration of built works. In all cases, it is essential to carry out methods of reinforcement or maintenance of structural elements, following an inspection analysis and methodology of a correct diagnosis. This research focuses on the calculation of the necessary reinforcement sections of carbon fiber for structural elements with reinforced concrete in order to improve their load bearing capacity and rigidity. The different results obtained reveal a considerable gain in resistance and deformation capacity of reinforced sections without significant increase in the weight of the rehabilitated elements

Aging and yielding in a sheared AOT/iso-octane/water lyotropic lamellar phase

We define a creep-flow-based measurement procedure to allow reliable and reproducible results on aging and yielding materials to be obtained. Investigation of the effects of different parameter such as the pre-shear time, the recovery time and the applied stress magnitude on the viscoelastic properties of a lyotropic liquid crystal phase is reported. Cryo-TEM observations indicate the formation of multiconnected bilayers at rest. Shearing the investigated material shows a propensity to acquire all the macroscopic properties of “soft jammed systems”. These properties are then interpreted in terms of shear-induced structural rearrangement on the basis of cryofracture observation obtained at different times after the preshear imposed

Recirculating Flows Involving Short Fiber Suspensions: Numerical Difficulties and Efficient Advanced Micro-Macro Solvers

Numerical modelling of non-Newtonian flows usually involves the coupling between equations of motion characterized by an elliptic character, and the fluid constitutive equation, which defines an advection problem linked to the fluid history. There are different numerical techniques to treat the hyperbolic advection equations. In non-recirculating flows, Eulerian discretizations can give a convergent solution within a short computing time. However, the existence of steady recirculating flow areas induces additional difficulties. Actually, in these flows neither boundary conditions nor initial conditions are known. In this paper we compares different advanced strategies (some of them recently proposed and extended here for addressing complex flows) when they are applied to the solution of the kinetic theory description of a short fiber suspension fluid flows
