Channels of published research communication used by Malaysian authors in computer science and information technology
Analyse 389 records retrieved from Inspec (1990-1999), Compendex (1987-1999) and IEL (IEE/IEEE Electronic library)(1987-1999). The records comprised 159 journal articles, 229 conference papers and 1 monograph chapter. The subject coverage was computer science and information technology. The yearly output of Malaysian publications indicated a gentle upward trend. The highest contributions was 87 published in 1997. The channels used to publish differ slightly from the norm for scientists. Conference papers were preferred to journal articles. The spread of conference papers used to publish indicate three zonal distributions; the nucleus, moderate and low productivity in the ratio of 19 : 41 : 88, leading to a clustering index of 2.15. This shows that Malaysian conference contributions were concentrated in a few proceedings. No clear core journals can be identified for the journal articles and contributions were distributed in a wide variety of journal titles. Malaysian Journal of Computer Science published the highest number of journal articles. More than 83 of the articles were published in journals from the UK, USA, the Netherlands and Malaysia
Generalized Jack polynomials and the AGT relations for the group
We find generalized Jack polynomials for the group and verify that
their Selberg averages for several first levels are given by Nekrasov
functions. To compute the averages we derive recurrence relations for the

Optical Phonon Anomaly in Bilayer Graphene with Ultrahigh Carrier Densities
Electron-phonon coupling (EPC) in bilayer graphene (BLG) at different doping
levels is studied by first-principles calculations. The phonons considered are
long-wavelength high-energy symmetric (S) and antisymmetric (AS) optical modes.
Both are shown to have distinct EPC-induced phonon linewidths and frequency
shifts as a function of the Fermi level . We find that the AS mode has a
strong coupling with the lowest two conduction bands when the Fermi level
is nearly 0.5 eV above the neutrality point, giving rise to a giant linewidth
(more than 100 cm) and a significant frequency softening ( 60
cm). Our \emph{ab initio} calculations show that the origin of the
dramatic change arises from the unusual band structure in BLG. The results
highlight the band structure effects on the EPC in BLG in the high carrier

Atomic-scale combination of germanium-zinc nanofibers for structural and electrochemical evolution
Alloys are recently receiving considerable attention in the community of rechargeable batteries as possible alternatives to carbonaceous negative electrodes; however, challenges remain for the practical utilization of these materials. Herein, we report the synthesis of germanium-zinc alloy nanofibers through electrospinning and a subsequent calcination step. Evidenced by in situ transmission electron microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy characterizations, this one-dimensional design possesses unique structures. Both germanium and zinc atoms are homogenously distributed allowing for outstanding electronic conductivity and high available capacity for lithium storage. The as-prepared materials present high rate capability (capacity of similar to 50% at 20 C compared to that at 0.2 C-rate) and cycle retention (73% at 3.0 C-rate) with a retaining capacity of 546 mAh g(-1) even after 1000 cycles. When assembled in a full cell, high energy density can be maintained during 400 cycles, which indicates that the current material has the potential to be used in a large-scale energy storage system
Constraining the Skyrme effective interactions and the neutron skin thickness of nuclei using isospin diffusion data from heavy ion collisions
Recent analysis of the isospin diffusion data from heavy-ion collisions based
on an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model with in-medium
nucleon-nucleon cross sections has led to the extraction of a value of MeV for the slope of the nuclear symmetry energy at saturation density.
This imposes stringent constraints on both the parameters in the Skyrme
effective interactions and the neutron skin thickness of heavy nuclei. Among
the 21 sets of Skyrme interactions commonly used in nuclear structure studies,
the 4 sets SIV, SV, G, and R are found to give values
that are consistent with the extracted one. Further study on the correlations
between the thickness of the neutron skin in finite nuclei and the nuclear
matter symmetry energy in the Skyrme Hartree-Fock approach leads to predicted
thickness of the neutron skin of fm for Pb, fm for Sn, and fm for Sn.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, 1 Table, Talk given at 1) International

The Absolute Magnitudes of Red Horizontal Branch Stars in the ugriz System
Based on photometric data of the central parts of eight globular clusters and
one open cluster presented by An and his collaborators, we select red
horizontal branch (RHB) stars in the (g-r)0-g0 diagram and make a statistical
study of the distributions of their colors and absolute magnitudes in the SDSS
ugriz system. Meanwhile, absolute magnitudes in the Johnson VRI system are
calculated through the translation formulae between gri and VRI in the
literature. The calibrations of absolute magnitude as functions of metallicity
and age are established by linear regressions of the data.
It is found that metallicity coefficients in these calibrations decrease,
while age coefficients increase, from the blue filter to the red
filter. The calibration of Mi= 0.06[Fe/H]+0.040t+0.03 has the smallest scatter
of 0.04 mag, and thus i is the best filter in the system when RHB stars
are used for distance indicators. The comparison of the MI calibration from our
data with that from red clump stars indicates that the previous suggestion that
the filter is better than the V filter in distance determination may not be
