IT Affordances in Online Social Commerce: Conceptualization Validation and Scale Development

    Get PDF
IT affordances have gained much attention in theoretically interpreting social media-associated behavior in information systems literature and played a crucial role in conceptually realizing IT-implicated mechanisms of human-computer interaction. But these efforts have been practically impeded in empirical research due to the lack of a validated scale. Here we address a context-specific conceptualization and a fine-grained measurement for IT affordances in online social commerce (OSC). We used a mixed-method approach to conduct a rigorous and comprehensive instrumental-development and validation procedure. We found that IT affordances in OSC are a multidimensional and formative construct, which consists of visibility, metavoicing, triggered attending, guidance shopping, social connecting, and trading. Results of psychometric properties based on two datasets (n=255 and n=326) show the scale is reliable and valid. The findings provide a theoretical springboard for further research and implication for practice

Teaching Dilemmas and Incentive Strategies of University Young Teachers: An Expectancy Theory Perspective

    Get PDF
As an important academic human resource in universities, young teachers undertake the responsibility of cultivating innovative talents for the country. From the perspective of expectancy theory, this study analyzes the teaching dilemmas of young teachers in universities from three aspects: expectancy, valence, and instrumentality. Based on results, specific suggestions are proposed to stimulate the teaching enthusiasm of young teachers, including establishing a scientifically reasonable assessment system to balance the relationship between teaching and research; optimizing the salary and welfare system of young teachers to motivate their teaching initiative; and enriching training and development programs for young teachers to enhance their teaching abilities. Keywords: teaching; incentive; expectation; young teachers DOI: 10.7176/JEP/14-18-11 Publication date:June 30th 202

Study of the structure size interval of incomplete geometrically similitude model of the elastic thin plates

To design the similitude test model having the same nature characteristics with the prototype of the elastic thin plates, an innovative method of confirm the structure size applicable interval of distorted (incomplete geometrically) similar model was proposed. Firstly, the complete scaling laws and the distortion scaling laws between the model and its prototype were established by using the governing equation analysis. Then, under the study of the structure size applicable interval which kept the same first-order nature characteristic (nature frequency and vibration mode), through the research of the vibration mode control interval (each order of the mode keep the same) and the predict interval of frequency, the method of structure size applicable interval of distorted similar model was obtained, which they were in different orders with the same nature characteristic. Finally, the proposed calculation method is verified by experiment

A Toolbox for Managing Blast and Sheath Blight Diseases of Rice in the United States of America

Rice blast disease caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae and rice sheath blight disease caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani are two major hurdles for stable rice production worldwide. Presently, fungicides are still needed to manage these two devastating fungal pathogens. After two decades of research efforts, a toolbox has been assembled with the following components: (1) insight into pathogen genomic identity and pathogen avirulence (AVR) genes that can be used to enhance plant breeding; (2) new mapping populations and germplasm and genetic stocks that can be used as starting materials to identify effective host resistance (R) genes; (3) user-friendly disease evaluation methods that can be used to accelerate the identification and utilization of R genes; (4) validated effective R genes that are readily available for improving genetic resistance; (5) host genetic markers that can be used to accelerate the development of new resistant germplasms/cultivars; and (6) an improved understanding of resistance mechanisms that can facilitate the engineering of resistance in commercial varieties. Appropriate employment of these tools in breeding and crop protection will reduce production costs and create an environmentally benign, sustainable rice production system

MP-MVS: Multi-Scale Windows PatchMatch and Planar Prior Multi-View Stereo

Significant strides have been made in enhancing the accuracy of Multi-View Stereo (MVS)-based 3D reconstruction. However, untextured areas with unstable photometric consistency often remain incompletely reconstructed. In this paper, we propose a resilient and effective multi-view stereo approach (MP-MVS). We design a multi-scale windows PatchMatch (mPM) to obtain reliable depth of untextured areas. In contrast with other multi-scale approaches, which is faster and can be easily extended to PatchMatch-based MVS approaches. Subsequently, we improve the existing checkerboard sampling schemes by limiting our sampling to distant regions, which can effectively improve the efficiency of spatial propagation while mitigating outlier generation. Finally, we introduce and improve planar prior assisted PatchMatch of ACMP. Instead of relying on photometric consistency, we utilize geometric consistency information between multi-views to select reliable triangulated vertices. This strategy can obtain a more accurate planar prior model to rectify photometric consistency measurements. Our approach has been tested on the ETH3D High-res multi-view benchmark with several state-of-the-art approaches. The results demonstrate that our approach can reach the state-of-the-art.
