    U(2,2) gravity on noncommutative space with symplectic structure

    The classical Einstein's gravity can be reformulated from the constrained U(2,2) gauge theory on the ordinary (commutative) four-dimensional spacetime. Here we consider a noncommutative manifold with a symplectic structure and construct a U(2,2) gauge theory on such a manifold by using the covariant coordinate method. Then we use the Seiberg-Witten map to express noncommutative quantities in terms of their commutative counterparts up to the first-order in noncommutative parameters. After imposing constraints we obtain a noncommutative gravity theory described by the Lagrangian with up to nonvanishing first order corrections in noncommutative parameters.     A target guided subband filter for acoustic event detection in noisy environments using wavelet packets

    This paper deals with acoustic event detection (AED), such as screams, gunshots, and explosions, in noisy environments. The main aim is to improve the detection performance under adverse conditions with a very low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A novel filtering method combined with an energy detector is presented. The wavelet packet transform (WPT) is first used for time-frequency representation of the acoustic signals. The proposed filter in the wavelet packet domain then uses a priori knowledge of the target event and an estimate of noise features to selectively suppress the background noise. It is in fact a content-aware band-pass filter which can automatically pass the frequency bands that are more significant in the target than in the noise. Theoretical analysis shows that the proposed filtering method is capable of enhancing the target content while suppressing the background noise for signals with a low SNR. A condition to increase the probability of correct detection is also obtained. Experiments have been carried out on a large dataset of acoustic events that are contaminated by different types of environmental noise and white noise with varying SNRs. Results show that the proposed method is more robust and better adapted to noise than ordinary energy detectors, and it can work even with an SNR as low as -15 dB. A practical system for real time processing and multi-target detection is also proposed in this work

    Construction of Geo-Ontology Knowledge Base about Spatial Relations

However, in the real world and human's cognition, geographic objects are not simply geometric objects but spatially distributed objects with geographic semantics. If the geographic entities belong to different types, we may use different words to describe their spatial relationship although their shapes and geometric relationships are exactly the same. Aiming at above phenomenon, this paper analyzes what kinds of semantic information are involved in spatial relationship descriptions and queries. Based on the semantic analysis of geographic relations, an ontological knowledge base is established to store the knowledge of spatial relations between geographic objects. The knowledge base is implemented with Prote&acute;ge&acute; and OWL, and finally is connected to the spatial relation query system.</span

    Lifshitz Scaling Effects on Holographic Superconductors

    Via numerical and analytical methods, the effects of the Lifshitz dynamical exponent zz on holographic superconductors are studied in some detail, including ss wave and pp wave models. Working in the probe limit, we find that the behaviors of holographic models indeed depend on concrete value of zz. We obtain the condensation and conductivity in both Lifshitz black hole and soliton backgrounds with general zz. For both ss wave and pp wave models in the black hole backgrounds, as zz increases, the phase transition becomes more difficult and the growth of conductivity is suppressed. For the Lifshitz soliton backgrounds, when zz increases (z=1,Ā 2,Ā 3z=1,~2,~3), the critical chemical potential decreases in the ss wave cases but increases in the pp wave cases. For pp wave models in both Lifshitz black hole and soliton backgrounds, the anisotropy between the AC conductivity in different spatial directions is suppressed when zz increases.     Acetylcholinesterase Involvement in Apoptosis

    To date, more than 40 different types of cells from primary cultures or cell lines have shown AChE expression during apoptosis and after the induction apoptosis by different stimuli. It has been well-established that increased AChE expression or activity is detected in apoptotic cells after apoptotic stimuli in vitro and in vivo, and AChE could be therefore used as a marker of apoptosis. AChE is not an apoptosis initiator, but the cells in which AChE is overexpressed undergo apoptosis more easily than controls. Interestingly, cells with downregulated levels of AChE are not sensitive to apoptosis induction and AChE deficiency can protect against apoptosis. Some tumor cells do not express AChE, but when AChE is introduced into a tumor cell, the cells cease to proliferate and undergo apoptosis more readily. Therefore, AChE can be classified as a tumor suppressor gene. AChE plays a pivotal role in apoptosome formation, and silencing of the AChE gene prevents caspase-9 activation, with consequent decreased cell viability, nuclear condensation, and poly (adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase cleavage. AChE is translocated into the nucleus, which may be an important event during apoptosis. Several questions still need to be addressed, and further studies that address the non-classical function of AChE in apoptosis are needed

    Five-dimensional generalized f(R)f(R) gravity with curvature-matter coupling

    The generalized f(R)f(R) gravity with curvature-matter coupling in five-dimensional (5D) spacetime can be established by assuming a hypersurface-orthogonal spacelike Killing vector field of 5D spacetime, and it can be reduced to the 4D formulism of FRW universe. This theory is quite general and can give the corresponding results to the Einstein gravity, f(R)f(R) gravity with both no-coupling and non-minimal coupling in 5D spacetime as special cases, that is, we would give the some new results besides previous ones given by Ref.\cite{60}. Furthermore, in order to get some insight into the effects of this theory on the 4D spacetime, by considering a specific type of models with f1(R)=f2(R)=Ī±Rmf_{1}(R)=f_{2}(R)=\alpha R^{m} and B(Lm)=Lm=āˆ’ĻB(L_{m})=L_{m}=-\rho, we not only discuss the constraints on the model parameters mm, nn, but also illustrate the evolutionary trajectories of the scale factor a(t)a(t), the deceleration parameter q(t)q(t) and the scalar field Ļµ(t)\epsilon(t), Ļ•(t)\phi(t) in the reduced 4D spacetime.
