Hemodynamic Functions of Fenestrated Stent Graft under Resting, Hypertension, and Exercise Conditions.
The aim of this study was to assess the hemodynamic performance of a patient-specific fenestrated stent graft (FSG) under different physiological conditions, including normal resting, hypertension, and hypertension with moderate lower limb exercise. A patient-specific FSG model was constructed from computed tomography images and was discretized into a fine unstructured mesh comprising tetrahedral and prism elements. Blood flow was simulated using Navier-Stokes equations, and physiologically realistic boundary conditions were utilized to yield clinically relevant results. For a given cycle-averaged inflow of 2.08 L/min at normal resting and hypertension conditions, approximately 25% of flow was channeled into each renal artery. When hypertension was combined with exercise, the cycle-averaged inflow increased to 6.39 L/min but only 6.29% of this was channeled into each renal artery, which led to a 438.46% increase in the iliac flow. For all the simulated scenarios and throughout the cardiac cycle, the instantaneous flow streamlines in the FSG were well organized without any notable flow recirculation. This well-organized flow led to low values of endothelial cell activation potential, which is a hemodynamic metric used to identify regions at risk of thrombosis. The displacement forces acting on the FSG varied with the physiological conditions, and the cycle-averaged displacement force at normal rest, hypertension, and hypertension with exercise was 6.46, 8.77, and 8.99 N, respectively. The numerical results from this study suggest that the analyzed FSG can maintain sufficient blood perfusion to the end organs at all the simulated conditions. Even though the FSG was found to have a low risk of thrombosis at rest and hypertension, this risk can be reduced even further with moderate lower limb exercise
Experimental investigation of a solar collector integrated with a pulsating heat pipe and a compound parabolic concentrator
The paper reports an experimental investigation of a newly proposed solar collector that integrates a closed-end pulsating heat pipe (PHP) and a compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). The PHP is used as an absorber due to its simple structure and high heat transfer capacity. The CPC has a concentration ratio of 3.4 and can be readily manufactured by three-dimensional printing. The CPC can significantly increase the incident solar irradiation intensity to the PHP absorber and also reduce the heat loss due to the decrease in the area of the hot surface. A prototype of the solar collector has been built, consisting of a PHP absorber bent by 4 mm diameter copper tube, CPC arrayed by 10 × 2 CPC units with the collection area of 300 × 427.6 mm2, a hot water tank and a glass cover. HFE7100 was utilized as the working fluid at a filling ratio of 40%. The operating characteristics and thermal efficiency of the solar collector were experimentally studied. The steady and periodic temperature fluctuations of the evaporation and condensation sections of the PHP absorber indicate that the absorber works well with a thermal resistance of about 0.26 °C/W. It is also found that, as the main factor to the the thermal performance of the collector, thermal resistance of the PHP absorber decreases with increasing evaporation temperature. The collector apparently shows start-up, operational and shutdown stages at the starting and ending temperatures of 75 °C. When the direct normal irradiance is 800 W/m2, the instantaneous thermal efficiency of the solar collector can reach up to 50%.The work was financially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (51506004), Beijing Natural Science Foundation (3162009), Scientific Research Project of Beijing Educational Committee (KM201410016001) and Research Fund of Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture
Scaling of three-dimensional InN islands grown on GaN(0001) by molecular-beam epitaxy
The scaling property of three-dimensional InN islands nucleated on GaN(0001) surface during molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) is investigated. Due to the large lattice mismatch between InN and GaN (∼10%), the islands formed from the Stranski-Krastanow growth mode are dislocated. Despite the variations in (residual) strain and the shape, both the island size and pair separation distributions show the scaling behavior. Further, the size distribution resembles that for submonolayer homoepitaxy with the critical island size i = 1, suggesting that detachment of atoms is not significant. The above results also indicate strain is insignificant in determining the nucleation and growth of dislocated islands during heteroepitaxy by MBE.published_or_final_versio
Electromagnetic emissions from the IC packaging
The EMC and EMI of the IC packaging are becoming increasingly important to modern electronics. Its EMC, SI, and PI have been broadly attested. But electromagnetic radiations from IC packaging and the corresponding EMI were seldom studied. In this paper, the fundamental principles and properties of the electromagnetic radiations caused by vias and traces in IC packagings are carefully investigated. Various radiation mechanisms are analyzed for different representative scenarios. Numerical simulations are employed to support the analyzing results. © 2012 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

In situ revelation of a zinc-blende InN wetting layer during Stranski-Krastanov growth on GaN(0001) by molecular-beam epitaxy
Indium nitride (InN) exists in two different structural phases, the equilibrium wurtzite (w) and the metastable zinc-blende (zb) phases. It is of scientific interest and practical relevance to examine the crystal structure of the epifilms during growth. In this paper, we use Patterson function inversion of low-energy electron diffraction I-V curves to reveal the preferential formation of zinc-blende InN wetting layer during the Stranski-Krastanov growth on GaN(0001). For three-dimensional islands nucleated afterwards on top of the wetting layer and for thick InN films, the equilibrium wurtzite structure is observed instead. This in situ revelation of the InN lattice structure is confirmed by ex situ transmission electron microscopy studies. Finally, the formation of zb-InN layer on w-GaN is explained in terms of the strain in the system. © 2005 The American Physical Society.published_or_final_versio
Seroprevalence of Mycoplasma bovis infection in dairy cows in subtropical southern China
The seroprevalence of Mycoplasma bovis infection in dairy cows in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR) in subtropical southern China was surveyed between June 2009 and March 2010. A total of 455 serum samples of dairy cows were collected from 6 districts in 4 different cities, and examined for M. bovis antibodies with the indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using a commercially available kit. The overall seroprevalence of M. bovis infection in dairy cows was 7.69% (35/455). Three year-old dairy cows had the highest seroprevalence (15.0%), followed by dairy cows of 4 year-old (11.1%). Dairy cows with the history of 5 pregnancies had the highest seroprevalence (33.3%). However, no statistically significant association was found between M. bovis infection and age or number of pregnancies (p > 0.05). All the aborting dairy cows were negative for M. bovis antibodies, suggesting that bovine abortion may have no association with M. bovis infection in GZAR. These results indicate that M. bovis infection in dairy cows was widespread in GZAR, and integrated strategies and measures should be performed to control and prevent M. bovis infection and disease outbreak.Key words: Mycoplasma bovis, seroprevalence, dairy cows, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (GZAR), China, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
