Exact black hole formation in three dimensions
We consider three dimensional Einstein gravity non-minimally coupled to a
real scalar field with a self-interacting scalar potential and present the
exact black hole formation in three dimensions. Firstly we obtain an exact
time-dependent spherically symmetric solution describing the gravitational
collapse to a scalar black hole at the infinite time, i.e. in the static limit.
The solution can only be asymptotically AdS because of the No-Go theorem in
three dimensions which is resulted from the existence of a smooth black hole
horizon. Then we analyze their geometric properties and properties of the time
evolution. We also get the exact time-dependent solution in the minimal
coupling model after taking a conformal transformation.Comment: 11 page
Energy-Efficient Multi-View Video Transmission with View Synthesis-Enabled Multicast
Multi-view videos (MVVs) provide immersive viewing experience, at the cost of
heavy load to wireless networks. Except for further improving viewing
experience, view synthesis can create multicast opportunities for efficient
transmission of MVVs in multiuser wireless networks, which has not been
recognized in existing literature. In this paper, we would like to exploit view
synthesis-enabled multicast opportunities for energy-efficient MVV transmission
in a multiuser wireless network. Specifically, we first establish a
mathematical model to characterize the impact of view synthesis on multicast
opportunities and energy consumption. Then, we consider the optimization of
view selection, transmission time and power allocation to minimize the weighted
sum energy consumption for view transmission and synthesis, which is a
challenging mixed discrete-continuous optimization problem. We propose an
algorithm to obtain an optimal solution with reduced computational complexity
by exploiting optimality properties. To further reduce computational
complexity, we also propose two low-complexity algorithms to obtain two
suboptimal solutions, based on continuous relaxation and Difference of Convex
(DC) programming, respectively. Finally, numerical results demonstrate the
advantage of the proposed solutions.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures, to be published in GLOBECOM 201
Preen Gland-Secreted Alkanols Enhance Male Attractiveness in Parrots
The skin glands are widely used in pheromone production throughout the vertebrate worlds. Growing evidences show that birds also have chemical communication, but the uropygial (also called preen or oil) glands, serving as only specialized skin glands of birds, have no sex pheromones characterized. Here, by combining GC-MS analysis and bioassay, we show with the budgerigar, Melopsittacus undulatus, that birds can used the preen gland-secreted volatiles (a blend of octadecanol, nonadecanol and eicosanol for male budgerigars) spread over body plumage when preening to convey sex information. Here, we first report the avian pheromones derived from the uropyginal gland and suggests that the gland has broader implications than previously known (e.g. plumage waterproofing and reflectance in sexual behaviour of birds
Doc2EDAG: An End-to-End Document-level Framework for Chinese Financial Event Extraction
Most existing event extraction (EE) methods merely extract event arguments
within the sentence scope. However, such sentence-level EE methods struggle to
handle soaring amounts of documents from emerging applications, such as
finance, legislation, health, etc., where event arguments always scatter across
different sentences, and even multiple such event mentions frequently co-exist
in the same document. To address these challenges, we propose a novel
end-to-end model, Doc2EDAG, which can generate an entity-based directed acyclic
graph to fulfill the document-level EE (DEE) effectively. Moreover, we
reformalize a DEE task with the no-trigger-words design to ease the
document-level event labeling. To demonstrate the effectiveness of Doc2EDAG, we
build a large-scale real-world dataset consisting of Chinese financial
announcements with the challenges mentioned above. Extensive experiments with
comprehensive analyses illustrate the superiority of Doc2EDAG over
state-of-the-art methods. Data and codes can be found at
