Developing a class of dual atom materials for multifunctional catalytic reactions

    Get PDF
Dual atom catalysts, bridging single atom and metal/alloy nanoparticle catalysts, offer more opportunities to enhance the kinetics and multifunctional performance of oxygen reduction/evolution and hydrogen evolution reactions. However, the rational design of efficient multifunctional dual atom catalysts remains a blind area and is challenging. In this study, we achieved controllable regulation from Co nanoparticles to CoN4 single atoms to Co2N5 dual atoms using an atomization and sintering strategy via an N-stripping and thermal-migrating process. More importantly, this strategy could be extended to the fabrication of 22 distinct dual atom catalysts. In particular, the Co2N5 dual atom with tailored spin states could achieve ideally balanced adsorption/desorption of intermediates, thus realizing superior multifunctional activity. In addition, it endows Zn-air batteries with long-term stability for 800 h, allows water splitting to continuously operate for 1000 h, and can enable solar-powered water splitting systems with uninterrupted large-scale hydrogen production throughout day and night. This universal and scalable strategy provides opportunities for the controlled design of efficient multifunctional dual atom catalysts in energy conversion technologies

Ground-Truth and Performance Evaluation for Page Layout Analysis of Born-Digital Documents

    No full text
In this paper, a new dataset is proposed for page layout analysis of born-digital documents. By extracting uniformly the document contents, an XML based data format is designed in terms of raw data and structure data. Utilizing a self-developed ground-truthing tool, a public dataset is constructed from diverse styles of document resources. With consideration of physical segmentation and logical labeling, automatic performance evaluation methods are adjusted to cope with different scenarios. The applications of the proposed dataset have shown that it is suitable for evaluating various layout analysis tasks. ? 2014 IEEE.EICPCI-S(ISTP)

Character feature integration of Chinese calligraphy and font

    No full text
A framework is proposed in this paper to effectively generate a new hybrid character type by means of integrating local contour feature of Chinese calligraphy with structural feature of font in computer system. To explore traditional art manifestation of calligraphy, multi-directional spatial filter is applied for local contour feature extraction. Then the contour of character image is divided into sub-images. The sub-images in the identical position from various characters are estimated by Gaussian distribution. According to its probability distribution, the dilation operator and erosion operator are designed to adjust the boundary of font image. And then new Chinese character images are generated which possess both contour feature of artistical calligraphy and elaborate structural feature of font. Experimental results demonstrate the new characters are visually acceptable, and the proposed framework is an effective and efficient strategy to automatically generate the new hybrid character of calligraphy and font.http://gateway.webofknowledge.com/gateway/Gateway.cgi?GWVersion=2&SrcApp=PARTNER_APP&SrcAuth=LinksAMR&KeyUT=WOS:000326744400021&DestLinkType=FullRecord&DestApp=ALL_WOS&UsrCustomerID=8e1609b174ce4e31116a60747a720701OpticsImaging Science & Photographic TechnologyEICPCI-S(ISTP)

Logical Labeling of Fixed Layout PDF Documents Using Multiple Contexts

    No full text
The task of logical structure recovery is known to be of crucial importance, yet remains unsolved not only for image based document but also for born-digital document system. In this work, the modeling of contextual information based on 2D Conditional Random Fields is proposed to learn page structure for born-digital fixed-layout documents. Heuristic prior knowledge of Portable Document Format (PDF) content and layout are interpreted to construct neighborhood graphs and various pair wise clique templates for the modeling of multiple contexts. By integrating local and contextual observations obtained from PDF attributes, the ambiguities of semantic labels are better resolved. Experimental comparisons for six types of clique templates has demonstrated the benefits of contextual information in logical labeling of 16 finely defined categories. ? 2014 IEEE.EICPCI-S(ISTP)

Optimization of dewatering schemes for a deep foundation pit near the Yangtze River, China

    No full text
A deep foundation pit constructed for an underground transportation hub was excavated near the Yangtze River. Among the strata, there are two confined aquifers, between which lies an aquiclude that is partially missing. To guarantee the safety of pit excavation, the piezometric head of the upper confined aquifer, where the pit bottom is located, should be 1 m below the pit bottom, while that of the lower confined aquifer should be dewatered down to a safe water level to avoid uplift problem. The Yangtze River levee is notably close to the pit, and its deformation caused by dewatering should be controlled. A pumping test was performed to obtain the hydraulic conductivity of the upper confined aquifer. The average value of the hydraulic conductivity obtained from analytical calculation is 20.45 m/d, which is larger than the values from numerical simulation (horizontal hydraulic conductivity KH = 16 m/d and vertical hydraulic conductivity KV = 8 m/d). The difference between KH and KV indicates the anisotropy of the aquifer. Two dewatering schemes were designed for the construction and simulated by the numerical models for comparison purposes. The results show that though the first scheme could meet the dewatering requirements, the largest accumulated settlement and differential settlement would be 94.64 mm and 3.3‰, respectively, greatly exceeding the limited values. Meanwhile, the second scheme, in which the bottoms of the waterproof curtains in ramp B and the river side of ramp A are installed at a deeper elevation of −28 m above sea level, and 27 recharge wells are set along the levee, can control the deformation of the levee significantly. Effect of Copper Doping on Electronic Structure and Optical Absorption of Cd33Se33 Quantum Dots

    No full text
The photophysical properties of Cu-doped CdSe quantum dots (QDs) can be affected by the oxidation state of Cu impurity, but disagreement still exists on the Cu oxidation state (+1 or +2) in these QDs, which is debated and poorly understood for many years. In this work, by using density functional theory (DFT)-based calculations with the Heyd–Scuseria–Ernzerhof (HSE) screened hybrid functional, we clearly demonstrate that the incorporation of Cu dopants into the surface of the magic sized Cd33Se33 QD leads to non-magnetic Cu 3d orbitals distribution and Cu+1 oxidation state, while doping Cu atoms in the core region of QDs can lead to both Cu+1 and Cu+2 oxidation states, depending on the local environment of Cu atoms in the QDs. In addition, it is found that the optical absorption of the Cu-doped Cd33Se33 QD in the visible region is mainly affected by Cu concentration, while the absorption in the infrared regime is closely related to the oxidation state of Cu. The present results enable us to use the doping of Cu impurity in CdSe QDs to achieve special photophysical properties for their applications in high-efficiency photovoltaic devices. The methods used here to resolve the electronic and optical properties of Cu-doped CdSe QDs can be extended to other II-VI semiconductor QDs incorporating transition-metal ions with variable valence
