Study on the relationship of acute ketosis intoxication and type 2 diabetes mellitus
AbstractObjectiveTo study the change of serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and its correlation with ketosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with acute ketosis intoxication.MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted for the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from August 2015 to January 2016. The patients combined with ketosis were included into diabetic ketosis group and the patients without ketosis were included into negative control group. The clinical data were collected from two groups including general data, blood pressure, liver function and the levels of blood fat, glycosylated hemoglobin, blood ketone, β-hydroxybutyric acid and CRP. The discrepancy of clinical data between two groups was analyzed.ResultsThe levels of glycosylated hemoglobin [(11.6 ± 2.1)% vs. (8.3 ± 1.9)%], blood ketone [0.65 (0.3, 1.75) vs. 0.1 (0.1, 0.2) mmol/L], β-hydroxybutyric acid [0.595 (0.303, 1.775) vs. 0.08 (0.06, 0.15) mmol/L] and CRP [0.595 (0.303, 1.775) vs. 0.08 (0.06, 0.15) mmol/L] were significant higher than those of negative control group, while the levels of blood pressure, blood fat and aminopherase had no significant difference. The serum CRP levels showed positive correlation with blood ketone and β-hydroxybutyric acid (r = 0.490 and r = 0.478, respectively).ConclusionsPoor blood glucose control for a long time and strengthening inflammatory response are correlated with the status of acute ketosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The CRP levels in ketosis patients were significantly elevated and could be used to evaluate the degree of ketosis
Motorized Macrocycle:A Photo-responsive Host with Switchable and Stereoselective Guest Recognition
Designing photo-responsive host–guest systems can provide versatile supramolecular tools for constructing smart systems and materials. We designed photo-responsive macrocyclic hosts, modulated by light-driven molecular rotary motors enabling switchable chiral guest recognition. The intramolecular cyclization of the two arms of a first-generation molecular motor with flexible oligoethylene glycol chains of different lengths resulted in crown-ether-like macrocycles with intrinsic motor function. The octaethylene glycol linkage enables the successful unidirectional rotation of molecular motors, simultaneously allowing the 1:1 host–guest interaction with ammonium salt guests. The binding affinity and stereoselectivity of the motorized macrocycle can be reversibly modulated, owing to the multi-state light-driven switching of geometry and helicity of the molecular motors. This approach provides an attractive strategy to construct stimuli-responsive host–guest systems and dynamic materials
Elasticity evaluation of the plantar fascia: A shear wave elastography study involving 33 early-stage plantar fasciopathy subjects
Background: Plantar fasciopathy, the most common foot condition seen in elderly and athletic populations, can be diagnosed and differentially diagnosed with imaging modalities such as ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE). However, standard guidelines for ultrasound elastography of the plantar fascia are lacking. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the region of interest (ROI) on the evaluation of the plantar fascia elasticity and confirm the screening accuracy of SWE in the early-stage of plantar fasciopathy. Methods: This was an observational case‒control study involving 50 feet of 33 early-stage plantar fasciopathy subjects (the plantar fasciopathy group) and 96 asymptomatic feet of 48 healthy volunteers (the non-pain group). Clinical information, including age, gender, height, weight, visual analogue scale (VAS) score, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Scale score (AOFAS), and the symptom duration, were recorded. All participants underwent both conventional ultrasound and SWE evaluation. The plantar fascia elastic parameters included SWEsingle-point, calculated with a single-point ROI set at the greatest thickness of the plantar fascia, and SWEmulti-point, calculated by multipoint ROIs set continuously from the origin at the calcaneus to about 2 cm from the calcaneal origin. Results: The plantar fasciopathy group presented a higher VAS score (median [IQR), 4.00 (3.00) vs. 0.00 (0.00), p < 0.001] and lower AOFAS score [median (IQR), 79.50 (3.00) vs. 100.00 (10.00), p < 0.001] than the non-pain group. The median plantar fascia thickness of the plantar fasciopathy group was significantly greater than that of the non-pain group [median (IQR), 3.95 (1.37) mm vs 2.40 (0.60) mm, p < 0.001]. Abnormal ultrasound features, including echogenicity, border irregularities, and blood flow signals, were more prominent in the plantar fasciopathy group than in the non-pain group (29% vs. 0%, p < 0.001; 26% vs. 1%, p < 0.001; 12% vs. 0%, p < 0.001, respectively). Quantitative analysis of the plantar fascia elasticity revealed that the difference between the value of SWEsingle-point and SWEmultipoint was significant [median (IQR), 65.76 (58.58) vs. 57.42 (35.52) kPa, p = 0.02). There was a moderate and significant correlation between the value of SWEsingle-point and heel pain. However, there was no correlation between the value of SWEmultipoint and heel pain. Finally, we utilized the results of SWEsingle-point as the best elastic parameter reflecting clinical heel pain and found that SWEsingle-point could provide additional value in screening early-stage plantar fasciopathy, with an increase in sensitivity from 76% to 92% over conventional ultrasound alone. Additionally, compared with conventional ultrasound and SWE, the use of both improved the accuracy of screening for plantar fasciopathy. Although there were no significant differences in the negative predictive value of conventional ultrasound, SWE, and their combination, the positive predictive value when using both (90.20%) was significantly greater than that when using conventional ultrasound (74.50%) or SWE alone (76.50%).Conclusion: The plantar fascia elastic parameter calculated with single-point ROIs set at the greatest thickness of the plantar fascia is positively correlated with fascia feel pain. Single-point analysis is sufficient for the screening of the early-stage plantar fasciopathy using SWE. SWEsingle-point may provide additional valuable information for assessing the severity of plantar fasciopathy
Construction of a cDNA library and preliminary analysis of the expressed sequence tags of the earthworm Eisenia fetida (Savigny, 1826)
Earthworms are useful indicator organisms of soil health and Eisenia fetida have been extensively used as test organisms in ecotoxicological studies. In order to gain insight into the gene expression profiles associated with physiological functions of earthworms, a full‑length enriched cDNA library of the Eisenia fetida genome was successfully constructed using Switching Mechanism at 5\u27End of RNA Template technology. Construction of a cDNA library and analysis of Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) are efficient approaches for collecting genomic information and identifying genes important for a given biological process. Furthermore, analysis of the expression abundance of ESTs was performed with the aim of providing genetic and transcriptomic information on the development and regenerative process of earthworms. Phrep and Crossmatch were used to process EST data and a total of 1,140 high‑quality EST sequences were determined by sequencing random cDNA clones from the library. Clustering analysis of sequences revealed a total of 593 unique sequences including 225 contiguous and 368 singleton sequences. Basic Local Alignment Search Tool analysis against the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database resulted in 593 significant hits (P‑value \u3c1x10‑8), of which 168 were annotated through Gene Ontology analysis. The STRING database was used to determine relationships among the 168 ESTs, identifying associated genes involved in protein‑protein interactions and gene expression regulation. Based on nucleic acid and protein sequence homology, the mutual relationships between 287 genes could be obtained, which identified a portion of the ESTs as known genes. The present study reports on the construction of a high‑quality cDNA library representative of adult earthworms, on a preliminary analysis of ESTs and on a putative functional analysis of ESTs. The present study is expected to enhance our understanding of the molecular basis underlying the biological development of earthworms
Charge-changing cross section measurements of 300 MeV/nucleon Si on carbon and data analysis
Charge-changing cross section () measurements via the
transmission method have made important progress recently aiming to determine
the charge radii of exotic nuclei. In this work, we report a new
measurement of 304(9) MeV/nucleon Si on carbon at
the second Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL2) and describe the data
analysis procedure in detail. This procedure is essential to evaluate the
systematic uncertainty in the transmission method. The determined
of 1125(11) mb is found to be consistent with the
existing data at similar energies. The present work will serve as a reference
in the determinations at RIBLL2.Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures, to be published in Chinese Physics
An Observational Study of the Relationship Between Outcome and Platelet Reactivity in Chinese Patients Undergoing PCI Loading with 600 mg Clopidogrel
Objectives: We sought to determine whether high posttreatment platelet reactivity (HPPR) to a 600 mg loading dose of clopidogrel affects outcomes in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and to investigate whether there is a relationship between the number of platelet reactivity units (PRUs) and the characteristics of the patients. Background: Although impaired platelet response to clopidogrel is a strong predictor of unfavorable outcome after PCI, the impact of HPPR to a 600 mg loading dose of clopidogrel in Chinese patients with ACS undergoing PCI is still unknown. Methods: We performed observational research on 134 unselected patients with ACS undergoing urgent or planned PCI with a 600 mg loading dose of clopidogrel. Platelet activation was expressed as the PRU value measured by the VerifyNow assay. Results: Among the 134 patients (mean age 60.62 years [standard deviation 9.13 years], 60.4% male), there were 46 patients with HPPR (34.3%) and 88 patients without HPPR (65.7%). At a mean follow-up of 6 months (standard deviation 1 month), the rates of cardiac death, unstable angina, and rehospitalization for target lesion revascularization were higher in the HPPR group (19.6% vs. 6.8%, P=0.029). Multivariate analysis identified hemoglobin level and sex as independent predictors of the PRU value ( y =456.355−1.736 x 1 −31.880 x 2 , P<0.05). On receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, PRU values could significantly discriminate between patients with and patients without cardiac death, unstable angina, and rehospitalization for target lesion revascularization (area under the curve 0.758, 95% confidence interval 0.62–0.85, P=0.001, P<0.05). Conclusion: In patients with ACS, HPPR to a 600 mg loading dose of clopidogrel is associated with worse outcomes after PCI. There is some relationship between the PRU value and the hemoglobin level and sex. PRU values can predict the prognosis
Molecular footprints of domestication and improvement in soybean revealed by whole genome re-sequencing
BACKGROUND: Artificial selection played an important role in the origin of modern Glycine max cultivars from the wild soybean Glycine soja. To elucidate the consequences of artificial selection accompanying the domestication and modern improvement of soybean, 25 new and 30 published whole-genome re-sequencing accessions, which represent wild, domesticated landrace, and Chinese elite soybean populations were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 5,102,244 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and 707,969 insertion/deletions were identified. Among the SNPs detected, 25.5% were not described previously. We found that artificial selection during domestication led to more pronounced reduction in the genetic diversity of soybean than the switch from landraces to elite cultivars. Only a small proportion (2.99%) of the whole genomic regions appear to be affected by artificial selection for preferred agricultural traits. The selection regions were not distributed randomly or uniformly throughout the genome. Instead, clusters of selection hotspots in certain genomic regions were observed. Moreover, a set of candidate genes (4.38% of the total annotated genes) significantly affected by selection underlying soybean domestication and genetic improvement were identified. CONCLUSIONS: Given the uniqueness of the soybean germplasm sequenced, this study drew a clear picture of human-mediated evolution of the soybean genomes. The genomic resources and information provided by this study would also facilitate the discovery of genes/loci underlying agronomically important traits
Precision measurement of the branching fractions of J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 and psi' -> pi+pi-pi0
We study the decays of the J/psi and psi' mesons to pi+pi-pi0 using data
samples at both resonances collected with the BES III detector in 2009. We
measure the corresponding branching fractions with unprecedented precision and
provide mass spectra and Dalitz plots. The branching fraction for J/psi ->
pi+pi-pi0 is determined to be (2.137 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.058-0.056 (syst.)
+0.027-0.026 (norm.))*10-2, and the branching fraction for psi' -> pi+pi-pi0 is
measured as (2.14 +- 0.03 (stat.) +0.08-0.07 (syst.) +0.09-0.08 (norm.))*10-4.
The J/psi decay is found to be dominated by an intermediate rho(770) state,
whereas the psi' decay is dominated by di-pion masses around 2.2 GeV/c2,
leading to strikingly different Dalitz distributions.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure
