Resonances of the SD oscillator due to the discontinuous phase
Resonance phenomena of a harmonically excited system with mul-tiple potential well play an important role in nonlinear dynamics research. In this paper, we investigate the resonant behaviours of a discontinuous dynamical system with double well potential derived from the SD oscillator to gain better understanding of the transition of resonance mechanism. Firstly, the time dependent Hamiltonian is obtained for a Duffing type discontinuous system modelling snap-through buckling. This system comprises two subsystems connected at x = 0, for which the system is discontinuous. We constructa series of generating functions and canonical transformations to obtain the canonical form of the system to investigate the complex resonant behavioursof the system. Furthermore, we introduce a composed winding number to explore complex resonant phenomena. The formulation for resonant phenomena given in this paper generalizes the formulation of n Omega0 = m Omega used in the regular perturbation theory, where n and m are relative prime integers, Omega 0 and Omega are the natural frequency and external frequencies respectively. Understanding the resonant behaviour of the SD oscillator at the discontinuousphase enables us to further reveal the vibrational energy transfer mechanism between smooth and discontinuous nonlinear dynamical system
Quantifying Differential Privacy in Continuous Data Release under Temporal Correlations
Differential Privacy (DP) has received increasing attention as a rigorous
privacy framework. Many existing studies employ traditional DP mechanisms
(e.g., the Laplace mechanism) as primitives to continuously release private
data for protecting privacy at each time point (i.e., event-level privacy),
which assume that the data at different time points are independent, or that
adversaries do not have knowledge of correlation between data. However,
continuously generated data tend to be temporally correlated, and such
correlations can be acquired by adversaries. In this paper, we investigate the
potential privacy loss of a traditional DP mechanism under temporal
correlations. First, we analyze the privacy leakage of a DP mechanism under
temporal correlation that can be modeled using Markov Chain. Our analysis
reveals that, the event-level privacy loss of a DP mechanism may
\textit{increase over time}. We call the unexpected privacy loss
\textit{temporal privacy leakage} (TPL). Although TPL may increase over time,
we find that its supremum may exist in some cases. Second, we design efficient
algorithms for calculating TPL. Third, we propose data releasing mechanisms
that convert any existing DP mechanism into one against TPL. Experiments
confirm that our approach is efficient and effective.Comment: accepted in TKDE special issue "Best of ICDE 2017". arXiv admin note:

Quantifying Differential Privacy under Temporal Correlations
Differential Privacy (DP) has received increased attention as a rigorous
privacy framework. Existing studies employ traditional DP mechanisms (e.g., the
Laplace mechanism) as primitives, which assume that the data are independent,
or that adversaries do not have knowledge of the data correlations. However,
continuously generated data in the real world tend to be temporally correlated,
and such correlations can be acquired by adversaries. In this paper, we
investigate the potential privacy loss of a traditional DP mechanism under
temporal correlations in the context of continuous data release. First, we
model the temporal correlations using Markov model and analyze the privacy
leakage of a DP mechanism when adversaries have knowledge of such temporal
correlations. Our analysis reveals that the privacy leakage of a DP mechanism
may accumulate and increase over time. We call it temporal privacy leakage.
Second, to measure such privacy leakage, we design an efficient algorithm for
calculating it in polynomial time. Although the temporal privacy leakage may
increase over time, we also show that its supremum may exist in some cases.
Third, to bound the privacy loss, we propose mechanisms that convert any
existing DP mechanism into one against temporal privacy leakage. Experiments
with synthetic data confirm that our approach is efficient and effective.Comment: appears at ICDE 201
The effects of anti-sense interleukin-5 gene transferred by recombinant adeno-associated virus in allergic rats
The accumulation and infiltration of eosinophils in airways is one of the most important characteristics of asthma, and is mediated partly by secretion of IL-5 from Th2 lymphocytes. It is well known that interleukin-5 (IL-5) played an important role in the regulation of eosinophils. In this study, an anti-sense IL-5 gene transferred by recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV-ASIL-5) was prepared to transfect allergic rats. It was found that the expression of IL-5 protein in plasma and BALF were inhibited significantly. The rAAV-ASIL-5-mediated suppression of total cell counts in peripheral blood and BALF were also observed. Moreover, rAAV-ASIL-5 remarkably reduced the eosinophil counts in peripheral blood and BALF, as well as the expression of ECP protein in plasma and BALF. The inflammation in lungs of rAAV-ASIL-5 pretreated rats also became slighter when compared with allergic rats. Otherwise, no apparent pathological damage to vital organs of rats was found. In conclusion, recombinant adeno-associated virus-mediated delivery of anti-sense IL-5 gene inhibited the accumulation of eosinophils and the airways inflammation in rat model of allergic asthma via suppressing IL-5 expression. It suggested the feasibility of rAAV-ASIL-5 in the gene therapy for allergic asthma and other eosinophilic diseases
Multiscale Technicolor and
Correction to the branching ratio in the multiscale
walking technicolor model (MWTCM) is examined. For the original MWTCM, the
correction is too large to explain the recent CLEO data. We show that if
topcolor is further introduced, the branching ratio in the topcolor assisted
MWTCM can be in agreement with the CLEO data for a certain range of the
parameters.Comment: 11 pages, Latex, no macros, 3 figures, hard copy is available upon
