    A 60-year record of 129I in Taal Lake sediments (Philippines): Influenceof human nuclear activities at low latitude region

    The influence of human nuclear activities on environmental radioactivity is not well known at low latitude regions that are distant from nuclear test sites and nuclear facilities. A sediment core collected from Taal Lake in the central Philippines was analyzed for 129I and 127I to investigate this influence in a low-latitude terrestrial system. A baseline of 129I/127I atomic ratios was established at (2.04e5.14) * 10-12&nbsp;in the pre-nuclear era in this region. Controlled by the northeasterly equatorial trade winds, increased 129I/127I ratios of (20.1e69.3) * 10-12 suggest that atmospheric nuclear weapons tests at the Pacific Proving Grounds in the central Pacific Ocean was the major source of 129I in the sediment during 1956-1962. The 129I/127I ratios, up to 157.5*10-12 after 1964, indicate a strong influence by European nuclear fuel reprocessing plants. The East Asian Winter Monsoon is found to be the dominant driving force in the atmospheric dispersion of radioactive iodine (129I) from the European nuclear fuel reprocessing plants to Southeast Asia, which is also important for dispersion of other airborne pollutants from the middle-high to low latitude regions. A significant 129I/127I peak at 42.8 cm in the Taal Lake core appears to be the signal of the Chernobyl accident in 1986. In addition, volcanic activities are reflected in the iodine isotope profiles in the sediment core, suggesting the potential of using iodine isotopes as an indicator of volcanic eruptions.<br style="line-height: normal; text-align: -webkit-auto; text-size-adjust: auto;" /

Recently, a significant amount of progresses have been made towards quantifying success in science. This lack of detailed analysis and summary continues a practical issue. The literature reports the factors influencing scholarly impact and evaluation methods and indices aimed at overcoming this crucial weakness. We focus on categorizing and reviewing the current development on evaluation indices of scholarly impact, including paper impact, scholar impact, and journal impact. Besides, we summarize the issues of existing evaluation methods and indices, investigate the open issues and challenges, and provide possible solutions, including the pattern of collaboration impact, unified evaluation standards, implicit success factor mining, dynamic academic network embedding, and scholarly impact inflation. This paper should help the researchers obtaining a broader understanding of quantifying success in science, and identifying some potential research directions

Inter­molecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of hydrogen-bonded carb­oxy­lic acid dimers [graph-set motif R 2 2(8)].     Research hotspots and trends of brain-computer interface technology in stroke: a bibliometric study and visualization analysis

    BackgroundThe incidence and mortality rates of stroke are escalating due to the growing aging population, which presents a significant hazard to human health. In the realm of stroke, brain-computer interface (BCI) technology has gained considerable attention as a means to enhance treatment efficacy and improve quality of life. Consequently, a bibliometric visualization analysis was performed to investigate the research hotspots and trends of BCI technology in stroke, with the objective of furnishing reference and guidance for future research.MethodsThis study utilized the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-Expanded) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database as the data source, selecting relevant literature published between 2013 and 2022 as research sample. Through the application of VOSviewer 1.6.19 and CiteSpace 6.2.R2 visualization analysis software, as well as the bibliometric online analysis platform, the scientific knowledge maps were constructed and subjected to visualization display, and statistical analysis.ResultsThis study encompasses a total of 693 relevant literature, which were published by 2,556 scholars from 975 institutions across 53 countries/regions and have been collected by 185 journals. In the past decade, BCI technology in stroke research has exhibited an upward trend in both annual publications and citations. China and the United States are high productivity countries, while the University of Tubingen stands out as the most contributing institution. Birbaumer N and Pfurtscheller G are the authors with the highest publication and citation frequency in this field, respectively. Frontiers in Neuroscience has published the most literature, while Journal of Neural Engineering has the highest citation frequency. The research hotspots in this field cover keywords such as stroke, BCI, rehabilitation, motor imagery (MI), motor recovery, electroencephalogram (EEG), neurorehabilitation, neural plasticity, task analysis, functional electrical stimulation (FES), motor impairment, feature extraction, and induced movement therapy, which to a certain extent reflect the development trend and frontier research direction of this field.ConclusionThis study comprehensively and visually presents the extensive and in-depth literature resources of BCI technology in stroke research in the form of knowledge maps, which facilitates scholars to gain a more convenient understanding of the development and prospects in this field, thereby promoting further research work

    PeHVA22 gene family in passion fruit (Passiflora edulis): initial characterization and expression profiling diversity

    Passion fruit, an economically valuable fruit crop, is highly vulnerable to adverse climate conditions. The HVA22 genes, recognized as abscisic acid (ABA) and stress-inducible, play vital roles in stress response and growth regulation in diverse eukaryotic organisms. Here, six HVA22 genes were firstly identified in passion fruit genome and all predicted to be localized within the endoplasmic reticulum. Phylogenetic analyses showed that all PeHVA22s were divided into four subgroups. The gene structural features of PeHVA22 genes clustered in the same subgroup were relatively conserved, while the gene structure characteristics of PeHVA22s from different subgroups varied significantly. PeHVA22A and PeHVA22C closely clustered with barley HVA22 in Group II, were also induced by ABA and drought stress treatment, suggesting conserved roles similar to barley HVA22. Meanwhile, most PeHVA22s exhibited induced expression post-drought treatment but were suppressed under salt, low and high-temperature conditions, indicating a unique role in drought response. Additionally, PeHVA22s displayed tissue-specific expression patterns across diverse tissues, except for PeHVA22B which maybe a pseudogene. Notably, PeHVA22C, PeHVA22E, and PeHVA22F predominantly expressed in fruit, indicating their involvement in fruit development. Almost all PeHVA22s showed variable expression at different developmental stages of stamens or ovules, implying their roles in passion fruit’s sexual reproduction. The intricate roles of PeHVA22s may result from diverse regulatory factors including transcription factors and CREs related to plant growth and development, hormone and stress responsiveness. These observations highlighted that PeHVA22s might play conserved roles in ABA response and drought stress tolerance, and also be participated in the regulation of passion fruit growth and floral development

    Expert consensus on postoperative rehabilitation nursing of patients with head and neck cancer

    The location and size of tumors, treatment methods and prognosis of patients with head and neck cancer can seriously affect their oral function and neck activity, thereby affecting daily activities such as eating, speech and upper limb movement. Early rehabilitation after head and neck cancer surgery can accelerate functional recovery, alleviate discomfort symptoms, improve quality of life, and reduce unnecessary rehabilitation or treatment measures. Developing a clinical rehabilitation nursing pathway for head and neck cancer, forming personalized rehabilitation plans, and conducting early and effective nursing interventions are currently one of the key points of clinical work for patients with head and neck cancer. At present, domestic and foreign guidelines or consensus pays less attention to the impairments of speech function, chewing and swallowing function, neck and shoulder function etc., and lacks a systematic and comprehensive rehabilitation nursing guide or consensus to provide practical guidance for the care of patients with head and neck cancer.
