    A Delay Learning Algorithm Based on Spike Train Kernels for Spiking Neurons

    Neuroscience research confirms that the synaptic delays are not constant, but can be modulated. This paper proposes a supervised delay learning algorithm for spiking neurons with temporal encoding, in which both the weight and delay of a synaptic connection can be adjusted to enhance the learning performance. The proposed algorithm firstly defines spike train kernels to transform discrete spike trains during the learning phase into continuous analog signals so that common mathematical operations can be performed on them, and then deduces the supervised learning rules of synaptic weights and delays by gradient descent method. The proposed algorithm is successfully applied to various spike train learning tasks, and the effects of parameters of synaptic delays are analyzed in detail. Experimental results show that the network with dynamic delays achieves higher learning accuracy and less learning epochs than the network with static delays. The delay learning algorithm is further validated on a practical example of an image classification problem. The results again show that it can achieve a good classification performance with a proper receptive field. Therefore, the synaptic delay learning is significant for practical applications and theoretical researches of spiking neural networks

    A Method for Improving UWB Indoor Positioning

    The existing positioning methods that use received signal strength indication (RSSI) and channel state information (CSI) may suffer from multipath and shadowing in a complex wireless environment, which can result in more positioning errors. This paper proposes a method for accurate multilabel positioning in the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment. First, the position is roughly estimated using the orthogonal variable spreading factor (OVSF-TH) algorithm, which can automatically match the signal interference. The ultra-wideband (UWB) spectral density and pulse amplitude in the time domain are used to determine the direction of the label and enhance estimation of the mobile label direction. Then, the location of the tag is obtained by triangulation, and a coordinate-based coordinate estimation method is proposed to calculate the relative displacement of multiple tags to determine the label position. Finally, by setting up a real experimental environment, the influence of the number of base stations on the accuracy and the performance of the localization method under different circumstances are analyzed. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the method is simple to deploy, inexpensive, and very accurate in terms of positioning, having a clearly effective indoor positioning accuracy. Compared with other existing positioning methods, this method can achieve more accurate positioning. Moreover, it has important theoretical and practical applicability because of the reliability and accuracy of indoor positioning in an NLOS environment

    Car-Sense: Vehicle Occupant Legacy Hazard Detection Method Based on DFWS

    Casualties caused by people trapped in cars have been common in recent years. Despite a variety of solutions, complex detection devices need to be arranged, or privacy is poor. Since device-free Wi-Fi sensing has attracted much attention due to its simplicity, low cost, and no need for additional hardware, this paper proposes a contactless wireless Wi-Fi sensing-based method for detecting people left in cars: Car-Sense. The method uses ESP32 devices in the vehicle to build a wireless Wi-Fi network for low-cost, real-time, and accurate personnel awareness. By capturing and analyzing the CSI (Channel State Information) signal, extracting features, and building a machine-learning correlation model, the number and location of occupants can be estimated and further inferred in combination with sensing data such as vehicle temperature. Even better, with the computing power of the edge-side devices to process data in collaboration with the cloud, the computing process is partially localized to reduce the computing pressure and latency in the cloud. The approach has been experimentally verified to have more than 85% accuracy

    A Non-Contact Detection Method for Multi-Person Vital Signs Based on IR-UWB Radar

    With the vigorous development of ubiquitous sensing technology, an increasing number of scholars pay attention to non-contact vital signs (e.g., Respiration Rate (RR) and Heart Rate (HR)) detection for physical health. Since Impulse Radio Ultra-Wide Band (IR-UWB) technology has good characteristics, such as non-invasive, high penetration, accurate ranging, low power, and low cost, it makes the technology more suitable for non-contact vital signs detection. Therefore, a non-contact multi-human vital signs detection method based on IR-UWB radar is proposed in this paper. By using this technique, the realm of multi-target detection is opened up to even more targets for subjects than the more conventional single target. We used an optimized algorithm CIR-SS based on the channel impulse response (CIR) smoothing spline method to solve the problem that existing algorithms cannot effectively separate and extract respiratory and heartbeat signals. Also in our study, the effectiveness of the algorithm was analyzed using the Bland–Altman consistency analysis statistical method with the algorithm’s respiratory and heart rate estimation errors of 5.14% and 4.87%, respectively, indicating a high accuracy and precision. The experimental results showed that our proposed method provides a highly accurate, easy-to-implement, and highly robust solution in the field of non-contact multi-person vital signs detection

    Target Detection Coverage Algorithm Based on 3D-Voronoi Partition for Three-Dimensional Wireless Sensor Networks

    The detection of target events is an important research area in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In recent years, many researchers have discussed the problem of WSN target coverage in a two-dimensional (2D) coordinate system. However, the target detection problem in a 3D coordinate system has not been investigated extensively, and it is difficult to improve the network coverage ratio while ensuring reliable performance of WSN. In addition, sensor nodes that are initially deployed randomly cannot achieve accurate target coverage in practice. Moreover, it is necessary to consider the energy consumption factor owing to the limited energy of the sensor node itself. Hence, with the objective of addressing the target event coverage problem of WSNs in 3D space applications, this paper proposes a target detection coverage algorithm based on 3D-Voronoi partitioning for WSNs (3D-VPCA) in order to ensure reliable performance of the entire network. First, we extend Voronoi division based on the 2D plane, which allows 3D-Voronoi partitioning of sensor nodes in 3D regions. Then, it is optimized according to the 3D-Voronoi neighbouring node partitioning characteristics and combined with the improved algorithm. Next, we set the priority coverage mechanism and introduce the correlation force between the target point and the sensor node in the algorithm, so that the sensor node can move to the target position for accurate coverage. Finally, we carry out related simulation experiments to evaluate the performance and accuracy of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the coverage performance of the network while ensuring a high overall coverage ratio

    A Device-Free Indoor Localization Method Using CSI with Wi-Fi Signals

    Amid the ever-accelerated development of wireless communication technology, we have become increasingly demanding for location-based service; thus, passive indoor positioning has gained widespread attention. Channel State Information (CSI), as it can provide more detailed and fine-grained information, has been followed by researchers. Existing indoor positioning methods, however, are vulnerable to the environment and thus fail to fully reflect all the position features, due to limited accuracy of the fingerprint. As a solution, a CSI-based passive indoor positioning method was proposed, Wavelet Domain Denoising (WDD) was adopted to deal with the collected CSI amplitude, and the CSI phase information was unwound and transformed linearly in the offline phase. The post-processed amplitude and phase were taken as fingerprint data to build a fingerprint database, correlating with reference point position information. Results of experimental data analyzed under two different environments show that the present method boasts lower positioning error and higher stability than similar methods and can offer decimeter-level positioning accuracy
