Performance Analysis of a Low-Interference N-Continuous OFDM Scheme
This paper investigates two issues of power spectrum density (PSD) and bit
error rate (BER) of an N-continuous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(NC-OFDM) aided low-interference time-domain scheme, when the smooth signal is
designed by the linear combination of basis signals truncated by a window.
Based on the relationship between the continuity and sidelobe decaying, the PSD
performance is first analyzed and compared, in terms of the highest derivative
order (HDO) N and the length of the smooth signal L. Since the high-order
derivative of the truncation window has the finite continuity, the N-continuous
signal has two finite continuities, which may have different continuous
derivative orders. In this case, we develop a close PSD expression by
introducing another smooth signal, which is also linearly combined by other
basis signals, to explain the sidelobe decaying related to N and L. Then, in
the context of BER, considering the multipath Rayleigh fading channel, based on
the effect of the delayed tail of the smooth signal to the received signal, we
provide a procedure for calculating the BER expressed in the form of an
asymptotic summation.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
A Sensitivity-Enhanced Refractive Index Sensor Using a Single-Mode Thin-Core Fiber Incorporating an Abrupt Taper
A sensitivity-enhanced fiber-optic refractive index (RI) sensor based on a tapered single-mode thin-core diameter fiber is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The sensor head is formed by splicing a section of tapered thin-core diameter fiber (TCF) between two sections of single-mode fibers (SMFs). The cladding modes are excited at the first SMF-TCF interface, and then interfere with the core mode at the second interface, thus forming an inter-modal interferometer (IMI). An abrupt taper (tens of micrometers long) made by the electric-arc-heating method is utilized, and plays an important role in improving sensing sensitivity. The whole manufacture process only involves fiber splicing and tapering, and all the fabrication process can be achieved by a commercial fiber fusion splicer. Using glycerol and water mixture solution as an example, the experimental results show that the refractive index sensitivity is measured to be 0.591 nm for 1% change of surrounding RI. The proposed sensor structure features simple structure, low cost, easy fabrication, and high sensitivity
INCREMENTAL CONTOUR FUSION BASED ON LINE/LINE TOPOLOGICAL RELATIONS
Incremental contour fusion plays a very important role in updating topographic database. The most popular fusion methods in current use depend on manual work basically, in which it results in large workload, low efficiency and it can’t ensure the quality of the spatial data. Therefore, the automatization of contour fusion should be developed exactly. Topological relation between unchanged contour and changed one is an important topic for contour fusion. In this paper, a new approach based on whole object is pursued to compute the binary topological relationship between them, in which “FL Points ” are introduced, intersection and difference operators are selected from set operators to distinguish the topological relations between neighboring spatial line objects; three types of topological invariants are used for the computational results of set operations: contents, dimension and connectivity-number. Then 14 fusion rules are concluded and a prototype system for automated fusion is implemented. The proposed approach is examined to be reasonable and practicable by real and simulated experimental data. 1
Low-complexity full-field ultrafast nonlinear dynamics prediction by a convolutional feature separation modeling method
The modeling and prediction of the ultrafast nonlinear dynamics in the
optical fiber are essential for the studies of laser design, experimental
optimization, and other fundamental applications. The traditional propagation
modeling method based on the nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation (NLSE) has long
been regarded as extremely time-consuming, especially for designing and
optimizing experiments. The recurrent neural network (RNN) has been implemented
as an accurate intensity prediction tool with reduced complexity and good
generalization capability. However, the complexity of long grid input points
and the flexibility of neural network structure should be further optimized for
broader applications. Here, we propose a convolutional feature separation
modeling method to predict full-field ultrafast nonlinear dynamics with low
complexity and high flexibility, where the linear effects are firstly modeled
by NLSE-derived methods, then a convolutional deep learning method is
implemented for nonlinearity modeling. With this method, the temporal relevance
of nonlinear effects is substantially shortened, and the parameters and scale
of neural networks can be greatly reduced. The running time achieves a 94%
reduction versus NLSE and an 87% reduction versus RNN without accuracy
deterioration. In addition, the input pulse conditions, including grid point
numbers, durations, peak powers, and propagation distance, can be flexibly
changed during the predicting process. The results represent a remarkable
improvement in the ultrafast nonlinear dynamics prediction and this work also
provides novel perspectives of the feature separation modeling method for
quickly and flexibly studying the nonlinear characteristics in other fields.Comment: 15 pages,9 figure
The effect of water temperature on the pathogenicity of decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1) in Litopenaeus vannamei
Decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1) has caused huge losses to the shrimp breeding industry in recent years as a new shrimp virus. In this study, white leg shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, were cultured at different temperatures (26 ± 1 °C and 32 ± 1 °C) and the same salinity, then infected with DIV1 by intramuscular injection to determine the effects of water temperature on viral infection. The DIV1 copy counts in the gills, hepatopancreas, pleopods, intestines, and muscles of L. vannamei were measured in samples collected at 6, 12, and 24 h post-infection (hpi), and the survival rate of L. vannamei was assessed every 6 h after infection. At 96 hpi, the survival rates of L. vannamei in the high (32 ± 1 ℃) and standard (26 ± 1 ℃) water temperature groups were 2.22% and 4.44%, respectively. The peak time of mortality in the high-water temperature group was 6 h earlier than in the standard water temperature group. After 24 hours of DIV1 infection, the DIV1 copy counts in the standard water temperature treatment group were significantly higher than those in the high-water temperature treatment group. The tissues with the highest virus copy counts in the standard and high-temperature groups were the intestines (2.9×1011 copies/g) and muscles (7.0×108 copies/g). The effect of temperature on the pathogenicity of DIV1 differs from that of other previously studied viruses, such as white spot syndrome virus, Taura syndrome virus, and infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus, because the high-water temperature did not mitigate the damage caused by DIV1 infection
