    Point-and-Shoot All-in-Focus Photo Synthesis from Smartphone Camera Pair

    All-in-Focus (AIF) photography is expected to be a commercial selling point for modern smartphones. Standard AIF synthesis requires manual, time-consuming operations such as focal stack compositing, which is unfriendly to ordinary people. To achieve point-and-shoot AIF photography with a smartphone, we expect that an AIF photo can be generated from one shot of the scene, instead of from multiple photos captured by the same camera. Benefiting from the multi-camera module in modern smartphones, we introduce a new task of AIF synthesis from main (wide) and ultra-wide cameras. The goal is to recover sharp details from defocused regions in the main-camera photo with the help of the ultra-wide-camera one. The camera setting poses new challenges such as parallax-induced occlusions and inconsistent color between cameras. To overcome the challenges, we introduce a predict-and-refine network to mitigate occlusions and propose dynamic frequency-domain alignment for color correction. To enable effective training and evaluation, we also build an AIF dataset with 2686 unique scenes. Each scene includes two photos captured by the main camera, one photo captured by the ultrawide camera, and a synthesized AIF photo. Results show that our solution, termed EasyAIF, can produce high-quality AIF photos and outperforms strong baselines quantitatively and qualitatively.     Fast Full-frame Video Stabilization with Iterative Optimization

    Video stabilization refers to the problem of transforming a shaky video into a visually pleasing one. The question of how to strike a good trade-off between visual quality and computational speed has remained one of the open challenges in video stabilization. Inspired by the analogy between wobbly frames and jigsaw puzzles, we propose an iterative optimization-based learning approach using synthetic datasets for video stabilization, which consists of two interacting submodules: motion trajectory smoothing and full-frame outpainting. First, we develop a two-level (coarse-to-fine) stabilizing algorithm based on the probabilistic flow field. The confidence map associated with the estimated optical flow is exploited to guide the search for shared regions through backpropagation. Second, we take a divide-and-conquer approach and propose a novel multiframe fusion strategy to render full-frame stabilized views. An important new insight brought about by our iterative optimization approach is that the target video can be interpreted as the fixed point of nonlinear mapping for video stabilization. We formulate video stabilization as a problem of minimizing the amount of jerkiness in motion trajectories, which guarantees convergence with the help of fixed-point theory. Extensive experimental results are reported to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach in terms of computational speed and visual quality.     Clinical determinants of the severity of COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

    ObjectiveWe aimed to systematically identify the possible risk factors responsible for severe cases.MethodsWe searched PubMed, Embase, Web of science and Cochrane Library for epidemiological studies of confirmed COVID-19, which include information about clinical characteristics and severity of patients' disease. We analyzed the potential associations between clinical characteristics and severe cases.ResultsWe identified a total of 41 eligible studies including 21060 patients with COVID-19. Severe cases were potentially associated with advanced age (Standard Mean Difference (SMD) = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.34-2.12), male gender (Odds Ratio (OR) = 1.51, 95% CI:1.33-1.71), obesity (OR = 1.89, 95% CI: 1.44-2.46), history of smoking (OR = 1.40, 95% CI:1.06-1.85), hypertension (OR = 2.42, 95% CI: 2.03-2.88), diabetes (OR = 2.40, 95% CI: 1.98-2.91), coronary heart disease (OR: 2.87, 95% CI: 2.22-3.71), chronic kidney disease (CKD) (OR = 2.97, 95% CI: 1.63-5.41), cerebrovascular disease (OR = 2.47, 95% CI: 1.54-3.97), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (OR = 2.88, 95% CI: 1.89-4.38), malignancy (OR = 2.60, 95% CI: 2.00-3.40), and chronic liver disease (OR = 1.51, 95% CI: 1.06-2.17). Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) (OR = 39.59, 95% CI: 19.99-78.41), shock (OR = 21.50, 95% CI: 10.49-44.06) and acute kidney injury (AKI) (OR = 8.84, 95% CI: 4.34-18.00) were most likely to prevent recovery. In summary, patients with severe conditions had a higher rate of comorbidities and complications than patients with non-severe conditions.ConclusionPatients who were male, with advanced age, obesity, a history of smoking, hypertension, diabetes, malignancy, coronary heart disease, hypertension, chronic liver disease, COPD, or CKD are more likely to develop severe COVID-19 symptoms. ARDS, shock and AKI were thought to be the main hinderances to recovery

    Bi-Phase NiCo<sub>2</sub>S<sub>4</sub>-NiS<sub>2</sub>/CFP Nanocomposites as a Highly Active Catalyst for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

    Pursuing oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts with high activity and stability is attracting many researchers. Here, we first designed and synthesized a biphasic three-dimensional structured catalyst of nickel–cobalt sulfide NiCo2S4-NiS2/CFP, which is a nickel–cobalt sulfide composite decorated on carbon fiber paper (CFP) by a one-step hydrothermal method. It exhibited an overpotential of about 165 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and a small Tafel slope of 81.54 mV dec−1. Furthermore, the long-term stability of the NiCo2S4-NiS2/CFP nanocomposite was 90.0% of the initial current density even after 12 h. The excellent catalytic performance of the NiCo2S4-NiS2/CFP nanocomposite can be attributed to several aspects. Firstly, the petal-like morphology of the NiCo2S4-NiS2 nanocomposite exposes more active sites. Secondly, the stability of the composite catalyst is significantly enhanced by its firm anchoring on the CFP. Thirdly, the catalytic performance was significantly improved by the addition of mixed valence of Ni or Co on the {111} plane of spinel NiCo2S4. Finally, the three-dimensional CFP substrate provides an efficient pathway and a stable integrated structure for the transmission of electrons and ions. Our one-step hydrothermal synthesis method provides a simple and economical way to obtain high-performance and robust OER catalysts

    Current apparent treatment‐resistant hypertension in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis: A multi‐center cross‐sectional study

    Abstract Apparent treatment‐resistant hypertension (aTRH) is the most commonly used term to report resistant hypertension (RH) and is considered as a common problem in dialysis population. However, few reports have focused on peritoneal dialysis (PD) hypertensive patients. The authors conducted a multi‐center cross‐sectional study involving 1789 PD patients from nine centers in Guangdong, China. The prevalence of aTRH was estimated by home blood pressure (BP) monitoring. Evaluating drug adherence through Eight‐item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS‐8) and pill counting was performed to assess RH in one PD center. Related factors of aTRH were analyzed using logistic regression analysis. The prevalence of aTRH in PD patients was estimated at 42.2% (755 out of 1789 hypertensive patients) based on home BP. Of those, 91.4% patients were classified as uncontrolled RH, 2.0% as controlled RH, and 6.6% as refractory hypertension. The prevalence of RH was 40.6% and 41.9% among those with medium/high adherence based on the MMAS‐8 scores and the pill counting rate, respectively. PD patients who were younger, with higher body mass index, with lower serum albumin and poorer dialysis adequacy were significantly associated with higher aTRH incident. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates a high prevalence of aTRH in PD population, which occurs in about two in five treated hypertensive patients.
