Exclusive Decays and CP Violation in the General two-Higgs-doublet Model
We calculate all the branching ratios and direct CP violations of
decays in a most general two-Higgs-doublet model with spontaneous CP violation.
As the model has rich CP-violating sources, it is shown that the new physics
effects to direct CP violations and branching ratios in some channels can be
significant when adopting the generalized factorization approach to evaluate
the hadronic matrix elements, which provides good signals for probing new
physics beyond the SM in the future B experiments.Comment: 21 page
A suspended microchannel with integrated temperature sensors for high-pressure flow studies
A freestanding microchannel, with integrated temperature sensors, has been developed for high-pressure flow studies. These microchannels are approximately 20ÎĽm x 2ÎĽm x 4400ÎĽm, and are suspended above 80 ÎĽm deep cavities, bulk micromachined using BrF3 dry etch. The calibration of the lightly boron-doped thermistor-type sensors shows that the resistance sensitivity of these integrated sensors is parabolic with respect to temperature and linear with respect to pressure. Volumetric flow rates of N2 in the microchannel were measured at inlet pressures up to 578 psig. The discrepancy between the data and theory results from the flow acceleration in a channel, the non-parabolic velocity profile, and the bulging of the channel. Bulging effects were evaluated by using incompressible water flow measurements, which also measures 1.045x10^-3N-s/m^2 for the viscosity of DI water. The temperature data from sensors on the channel shows the heating of the channel due to the friction generated by the high-pressure flow inside
Combinatorial interpretation of Haldane-Wu fractional exclusion statistics
Assuming that the maximal allowed number of identical particles in state is
an integer parameter, q, we derive the statistical weight and analyze the
associated equation which defines the statistical distribution. The derived
distribution covers Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein ones in the particular cases
q = 1 and q -> infinity (n_i/q -> 1), respectively. We show that the derived
statistical weight provides a natural combinatorial interpretation of
Haldane-Wu fractional exclusion statistics, and present exact solutions of the
distribution equation.Comment: 8 pages, 2 eps-figure
Optical response of graphene under intense terahertz fields
Optical responses of graphene in the presence of intense circularly and
linearly polarized terahertz fields are investigated based on the Floquet
theory. We examine the energy spectrum and density of states. It is found that
gaps open in the quasi-energy spectrum due to the single-photon/multi-photon
resonances. These quasi-energy gaps are pronounced at small momentum, but
decrease dramatically with the increase of momentum and finally tend to be
closed when the momentum is large enough. Due to the contribution from the
states at large momentum, the gaps in the density of states are effectively
closed, in contrast to the prediction in the previous work by Oka and Aoki
[Phys. Rev. B {\bf 79}, 081406(R) (2009)]. We also investigate the optical
conductivity for different field strengths and Fermi energies, and show the
main features of the dynamical Franz-Keldysh effect in graphene. It is
discovered that the optical conductivity exhibits a multi-step-like structure
due to the sideband-modulated optical transition. It is also shown that dips
appear at frequencies being the integer numbers of the applied terahertz field
frequency in the case of low Fermi energy, originating from the quasi-energy
gaps at small momentums. Moreover, under a circularly polarized terahertz
field, we predict peaks in the middle of the "steps" and peaks induced by the
contribution from the states around zero momentum in the optical conductivity.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figure
Micro heat exchanger by using MEMS impinging jets
A micro impinging-jet heat exchanger is presented here. Heat transfer is studied for single jet, slot arrays and jet arrays. In order to facilitate micro heat transfer measurements with these devices, a MEMS sensor chip, which has an 8 x 8 temperature-sensor array on one side, and an integrated heater on the other side has been designed and fabricated. This sensor chip allows 2-D surface temperature
measurement with various jets impinging on it. It is
found that micro impinging jets can be highly efficient when compared to existing macro impinging-jet microelectronics packages such as IBM 4381. For example, using a single nozzle jet (500-μm diameter driven by 5 psig pressure), the sensor chip (2 x 2 cm^2) temperature can be cooled down from 70 to 33°C. The cooling becomes more efficient when
nozzle arrays (4x5 over 1 cm^2 area) are used under
the same driving pressure. Interestingly, although
higher driving pressure gives better cooling (lower
surface temperature), the cooling efficiency, defined
as h/0.5pv^2, is actually higher for lower driving
pressure
Exclusonic Quasiparticles and Thermodynamics of Fractional Quantum Hall Liquids
Quasielectrons and quasiholes in the fractional quantum Hall liquids obey
fractional (including nontrivial mutual) exclusion statistics. Their statistics
matrix can be determined from several possible state-counting scheme, involving
different assumptions on statistical correlations. Thermal activation of
quasiparticle pairs and thermodynamic properties of the fractional quantum Hall
liquids near fillings ( odd) at low temperature are studied in the
approximation of generalized ideal gas. The existence of hierarchical states in
the fractional quantum Hall effect is shown to be a manifestation of the
exclusonic nature of the relevant quasiparticles. For magnetic properties, a
paramagnetism-diamagnetism transition appears to be possible at finite
temperature.Comment: latex209, REVTE
