Residents’ perceptions on tourism impacts and attitudes towards tourism development have a great influence on tourism sustainable development. But the measuring factors of research on residents’ perceptions on tourism impacts are not unified. This paper takes Pingyao ancient city as a case and employs interviewing method, and it analyzes residents’ perceptions on tourism economic impacts, socio-cultural impacts and environmental impacts. Furthermore, the paper examines the significance of taking the manners of people who participate in tourism into consideration. Results show that the residents have some perceptions on tourism impacts, but the overall satisfaction of tourism development is not high, and there is a small proportion of a heater or opponents. In addition, residents who participate in tourism in different patterns have distinctly different perceptions on tourism impacts, and the community development can be used to explain the difference of residents’ perceptions.Peer Reviewe

Strategic IT Investment of B2B E-commerce Platform Considering the Variable Investment Cost

In the competitive market of B2B E-commerce platform, the former entrant has the advantage of switching cost while the later entrant has the advantage of declining IT cost. Considering the variable investment cost due to the improvement of platform quality, the paper develops an IT investment model to investigate the best investment strategy for B2B E-commerce platform under the impact of switching cost, declining IT cost, user price-sensitive coefficient and quality-sensitive coefficient. The results show that, switching costs helps former entrant increase investment in platform quality, assume an aggressive investment strategy. Declining IT cost helps later entrant increase investment in platform quality and assumes an aggressive investment strategy only when user switching costs are lower. With the increase of user price-sensitive coefficient, former entrant and later entrant should both decrease investment in platform quality. With the increase of user quality-sensitive coefficient, former entrant and later entrant should both increase investment in platform quality

Responsivity Enhanced NMOSFET Photodetector Fabricated by Standard CMOS Technology

    Get PDF
Increasing the responsivity is one of the important issues for a photodetector. In this paper, we demonstrate an improved NMOSFET photodetector by using deep-n-well (DNW) structure which can improve the responsivity of the photodetector significantly. The experimental results show that the responsivity can be enhanced greatly by the DNW structure and is much larger than the previous work when DNW is biased with 0.5 V, while the dark current exhibits almost no increase. Further characterization indicates that the diode formed by the bulk and DNW can efficiently absorb photons and has a large gain factor of the photocurrent especially under low light condition, which gives a more promising application for the detector to detect the weak light

Challenges and Opportunities in Parent-Teacher Relationships in Contemporary China

This study explores how market economy affects parent-teacher relationships in China. Guided by Bourdieu’s (1986) capital theory, we interviewed twenty-one teachers and twenty parents in China. The study reveals that the market economy has impacted changes in parent-teacher relationships in several aspects. First, modern technology such as the Internet and WeChat has facilitated communication between parents and teachers with fast pace and convenience. Moreover, the study makes an original contribution to the field by challenging stereotyping assumptions towards Chinese parents who are either completely not involved or partially involved in their child’s education at home. The study shows that contemporary Chinese parents are actively involved in their children’s education both at home and at school. Furthermore, the market economy has shaken the high social status that teachers enjoyed in the past. As a result, parents prefer to adopt pragmatic approaches to parent-teacher relationships. Finally, the urban, middle-class parents whose social capital, alongside cultural, symbolic and economic capital enable them to mobilize their social networks in interacting with the school. They appear to be more likely than previous generations of Chinese parents to challenge teachers’ authority, and there have been more serious conflicts between parents and teachers. The study focuses on China, but these rare insights highlight current and emerging dangers to parent-teacher engagement with relevance to many other countries
