The practical application shows that the energy-saving transformation of hospital buildings in hot summer and warm winter area can effectively reduce its energy consumption, it also saves at least 654 tons of carbon dioxide annually

    We derive expressions that allow us to examine the influence of different source parameters on the correlation of intensity fluctuations (the Hanbury Brown-Twiss effect) at two points in the same cross section of a random electromagnetic beam. It is found that these higher-order correlations behave quite differently than the lower-order amplitude-phase correlations that are described by the spectral degree of coherence

    Effects of taurine on male reproduction in rats of different ages

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>It has been demonstrated that taurine is one of the most abundant free amino acids in the male reproductive system, and can be biosynthesized by male reproductive organs. But the effect of taurine on male reproduction is poorly understood.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Taurine and β-alanine (taurine transport inhibitor) were offered in water to male rats of different ages. The effects of taurine on reproductive hormones, testis marker enzymes, antioxidative ability and sperm quality were investigated.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The levels of T and LH were obviously increased by taurine supplementation in rats of different ages, and the level of E was also significantly elevated in baby rats. The levels of SOD, ACP, SDH and NOS were obviously increased by taurine administration in adult rats, but the levels of AKP, AST, ALT and NO were significantly decreased. The levels of SOD, ACP, LDH, SDH, NOS, NO and GSH were significantly elevated by taurine administration in aged rats, but the levels of AST and ALT were significantly decreased. The motility of spermatozoa was obviously increased by taurine supplement in adult rats. The numbers and motility of spermatozoa, the rate of live spermatozoa were significantly increased by taurine supplement in aged rats.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The present study demonstrated that a taurine supplement could stimulate the secretion of LH and T, increase the levels of testicular marker enzymes, elevate testicular antioxidation and improve sperm quality. The results imply that taurine plays important roles in male reproduction especially in aged animals.</p

    Self-Reconstruction Property of a Special Speckle Pattern after Obstructing by an Opaque Obstruction

    Numerical simulation of random optical field with special autocorrelation is performed. It can be seen that the speckle pattern with special autocorrelation is different from the general speckle pattern whose autocorrelation is a Gaussian function. Furthermore, we study the propagation property of the special speckle in free space after blocking by an opaque obstruction and find the self-healing effect of speckle. In particular, we investigate the influence of size and shape of obstruction and the coherence of speckle on the speckle’s reconstruction process. We find that it is affected by the size of obstruction and the coherence of the speckle but is almost not affected by the shape of obstruction. Our results can be applied to the imaging, optical communication, and so on

    RORα Suppresses Cancer-Associated Inflammation by Repressing Respiratory Complex I-Dependent ROS Generation

    Breast cancer development is associated with macrophage infiltration and differentiation in the tumor microenvironment. Our previous study highlights the crucial function of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in enhancing macrophage infiltration during the disruption of mammary tissue polarity. However, the regulation of ROS and ROS-associated macrophage infiltration in breast cancer has not been fully determined. Previous studies identified retinoid orphan nuclear receptor alpha (RORα) as a potential tumor suppressor in human breast cancer. In the present study, we showed that retinoid orphan nuclear receptor alpha (RORα) significantly decreased ROS levels and inhibited ROS-mediated cytokine expression in breast cancer cells. RORα expression in mammary epithelial cells inhibited macrophage infiltration by repressing ROS generation in the co-culture assay. Using gene co-expression and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) analyses, we identified complex I subunits NDUFS6 and NDUFA11 as RORα targets that mediated its function in suppressing superoxide generation in mitochondria. Notably, the expression of RORα in 4T1 cells significantly inhibited cancer metastasis, reduced macrophage accumulation, and enhanced M1-like macrophage differentiation in tumor tissue. In addition, reduced RORα expression in breast cancer tissue was associated with an increased incidence of cancer metastasis. These results provide additional insights into cancer-associated inflammation, and identify RORα as a potential target to suppress ROS-induced mammary tumor progression

    Influences of preparation process on the properties of high amylose corn starch-stearic acid complex

    [Objective] This study aimed to establish a preparation process for starch-lipid complex with high resistant starch (RS) content and to explore the effects of process parameters on the anti-digestibility of the complex. [Methods] Using RS content as the indicator, one-way experimental and orthogonal designs were employed to study the effects of temperature and time parameters during the pretreatment of high amylose corn starch (HA) and its complexation with stearic acid (SA). The physicochemical properties, anti-digestibility, and hydration characteristics of the HA-SA complex prepared by the optimal process were analyzed. [Results] Increasing pretreatment temperature in the gelatinization temperature range, prolonging the pre-treatment time, and complexing temperature above 75 ℃ all led to a significant decrease in RS content of HA-SA (P<0.05). The optimal process was as following: HA being pretreated at an annealing temperature of 85 ℃ for 12 h, and then complexed with SA at 75 ℃ for 90 min. The prepared HA-SA showed the V-type crystalline pattern and entire starch granules shape, and was characterized as the type I complex. It also presented the significantly enhanced thermal stability, bettered anti-digestibility, and lowered swelling power than HA (P<0.05). [Conclusion] Annealing temperature pretreatment and optimal complexation temperature favored to prepare the starch-lipid complex with higher anti-digestibility and entire granule structure. Excessive thermal strength during pretreatment causing excessive gelatinization could impede the formation of RS in the complexes. And a complexation temperature over 75 ℃ led to the disassociation of the complexation, decreasing the RS content. Annealing pretreatment preserved the entire starch granule of HA, which was one of the reasons for the higher digestibility of HA-SA
