Effects of squeezing on quantum nonlocality of superpositions of coherent states
We analyze effects of squeezing upon superpositions of coherent states (SCSs)
and entangled coherent states (ECSs) for Bell-inequality tests. We find that
external squeezing can always increase the degrees of Bell violations, if the
squeezing direction is properly chosen, for the case of photon parity
measurements. On the other hand, when photon on/off measurements are used, the
squeezing operation can enhance the degree of Bell violations only for moderate
values of amplitudes and squeezing. We point out that a significant improvement
is required over currently available squeezed SCSs in order to directly
demonstrate a Bell-inequality violation in a real experiment.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Inverted polymer fullerene solar cells exceeding 10% efficiency with poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) nanodots on electron-collecting buffer layers
Polymer solar cells have been spotlighted due to their potential for low-cost manufacturing but their efficiency is still less than required for commercial application as lightweight/flexible modules. Forming a dipole layer at the electron-collecting interface has been suggested as one of the more attractive approaches for efficiency enhancement. However, only a few dipole layer material types have been reported so far, including only one non-ionic (charge neutral) polymer. Here we show that a further neutral polymer, namely poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEOz) can be successfully used as a dipole layer. Inclusion of a PEOz layer, in particular with a nanodot morphology, increases the effective work function at the electron-collecting interface within inverted solar cells and thermal annealing of PEOz layer leads to a state-of-the-art 10.74% efficiency for single-stack bulk heterojunction blend structures comprising poly[4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-bā²]dithiophene-alt-3-fluorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate] as donor and [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester as acceptor
Faithful test of non-local realism with entangled coherent states
We investigate the violation of Leggett's inequality for non-local realism
using entangled coherent states and various types of local measurements. We
prove mathematically the relation between the violation of the
Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt form of Bell's inequality and Leggett's one when
tested by the same resources. For Leggett inequalities, we generalize the
non-local realistic bound to systems in Hilbert spaces larger than
bidimensional ones and introduce an optimization technique that allows to
achieve larger degrees of violation by adjusting the local measurement
settings. Our work describes the steps that should be performed to produce a
self-consistent generalization of Leggett's original arguments to
continuous-variable states.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, to be published in Phys. Rev.
Charge states and magnetic ordering in LaMnO3/SrTiO3 superlattices
We investigated the magnetic and optical properties of
[(LaMnO3)n/(SrTiO3)8]20 (n = 1, 2, and 8) superlattices grown by pulsed laser
deposition. We found a weak ferromagnetic and semiconducting state developed in
all superlattices. An analysis of the optical conductivity showed that the
LaMnO3 layers in the superlattices were slightly doped. The amount of doping
was almost identical regardless of the LaMnO3 layer thickness up to eight unit
cells, suggesting that the effect is not limited to the interface. On the other
hand, the magnetic ordering became less stable as the LaMnO3 layer thickness
decreased, probably due to a dimensional effect.Comment: 17 pages including 4 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Single-photon detection timing jitter in a visible light photon counter
Visible light photon counters (VLPCs) offer many attractive features as
photon detectors, such as high quantum efficiency and photon number resolution.
We report measurements of the single-photon timing jitter in a VLPC, a critical
performance factor in a time-correlated single-photon counting measurement, in
a fiber-coupled closed-cycle cryocooler. The measured timing jitter is 240 ps
full-width-at-half-maximum at a wavelength of 550 nm, with a dark count rate of
25 000 counts per second. The timing jitter increases modestly at longer
wavelengths to 300 ps at 1000 nm, and increases substantially at lower bias
voltages as the quantum efficiency is reduced
ESL Based Cylindrical Shell Elements with Hierarchical Shape Functions for Laminated Composite Shells
We introduce higher-order cylindrical shell element based on ESL (equivalent single-layer) theory for the analysis of laminated composite shells. The proposed elements are formulated by the dimensional reduction technique from three-dimensional solid to two-dimensional cylindrical surface with plane stress assumption. It allows the first-order shear deformation and considers anisotropic materials due to fiber orientation. The element displacement approximation is established by the integrals of Legendre polynomials with hierarchical concept to ensure the C0-continuity at the interface between adjacent elements as well as C1-continuity at the interface between adjacent layers. For geometry mapping, cylindrical coordinate is adopted to implement the exact mapping of curved shell configuration with a constant curvature with respect to any direction in the plane. The verification and characteristics of the proposed element are investigated through the analyses of three cylindrical shell problems with different shapes, loadings, and boundary conditions
