In order to improve the quality of life for Visually Impaired People (VIP), these mobile applications have paly an important role. VIP can independently live their lives with the help of advanced mobile technology. There are many assistive mobile applications that facilitate the VIP to perform their daily tasks. But when VIP interacts with these mobile applications there are many accessibility issues. This paper focused on the accessibility of mobile phone applications by VIP. This paper observed the activities of VIP during using mobile applications. In this paper, a total of 10 VIP people have participated with a different type of visual impairment. In order to find out the problems in accessibilities, the participants completed the given task. In a result of observation and accessibility of mobile phone applications, there were found many problems of accessibilities and usability. The representation of problems during interaction of mobile applications with VIP is the main contribution of this paper

Visually Impaired People (VIP) is using mobile applications to complete their daily tasks. This ratio of using mobile applications is growing very fastly. Many accessibility features for VIP from these mobile applications are provided, but there are many fundamental problems still create difficulties for VIP. In case when touchscreen mobile applications are used by VIP. The main problem is that VIP faces problems due to lacking facilities and requirements according to their needs. In this paper, the basic requirements of mobile application design for VIP were explored with the help of re-examining the current design guidelines of mobile phone applications. In this paper total, 8 VIP has participated. For smartphones, mobile application design user experience and accessibility requirements were collected. In order to check the requirements and accessibility of a mobile application, a five-points Likert scale is used. In the result of re-examining on current design guideline, there was described new requirements of mobile application design with the help of participants. These requirements will enhance the user experience of VIP to access mobile phone applications

Design principle for public transportation infographic

Infographics is a visual representation of data. Today, people learn faster and remember things more efficiently and effectively through the use of text and visuals than using the conventional textual method alone. Infographics can be used in visualization to enhance data interpretation and knowledge discovery. Many businesses use infographic elements that are hard to digest and understand. Visualization can be insufficient or ineffective, thus messages can be transferred well or they can be wrongly transferred. Businesses with lack of graphical representation skills usually meet with this kind of challenge. Preliminary study has found that transportation companies may not follow any design principle to design infographics. This can cause data to be poorly defined with uninteresting graphics which eventually do not trigger target audiences’ interest or unable to engage them. Besides, this process can affect the businesses’ revenues and customers’ satisfaction. A qualitative method was applied in this study. A design principle for public transportation infographic was developed based on three main principles which were Gestalt theory, components of infographics and components of public transportation. Gestalt theory introduces the theory of similarity, figure-ground, proximity, common region, focal point, closure, and continuity. Components of infographic include visual element, content element, and knowledge. Components of public transportation are unit of carriage, transportation terminals, travel directions and durations, safety, accessibility, reliability, and fares. A qualitative methodology was applied to evaluate the proposed principles. Five experts in infographics and visualization were assigned to evaluate the reliability of both the questionnaire and the infographic design principles. Findings from the expert’s review show the content validity index 0.95 for questionnaire and 0.89 for the design principle Infographic. Therefore, the result is acceptable. It is hoped that the developed design principle in public transportation will give good impacts in developing and enhancing infographics

Proposed data quality evaluation method for a transportation agency

The data quality evaluation is essential towards designing a data assessment method for any company because data is an important asset. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop the data quality evaluation method for a transportation agency in Malaysia in order to quantify the quality of data in the SIKAP licensing system. This can benefit the transportation agency to improve the quality of data for the use of reporting, forecasting business operations and data integration with other agency’s systems. The relevant data evaluation dimensions have been identified from literature study and relative data evaluation framework which are necessarily required by the transportation agency to maintain high data quality in the SIKAP system. The process design for the proposed method involves data dimension identification, capturing the relevant database structure, subjective evaluation with a questionnaire and objective evaluation with data profiling. From the design process, the result shows that data evaluation method for a transportation agency must have a minimum of six data quality dimensions. SIKAP, the legacy system is in the process to revamp into a new system. Thus, this research contributes to enhance the current system’s data quality during revamping process and data migration into the new system

Preliminary review of model-view-presenter (MVP) and usability design for the development of postgraduate web portal

The process of managing and monitoring postgraduate students should enable mobility to the individuals involved, should not use high human effort and should provide transparent monitoring. Therefore, it needs a solution that could enable mobility, reduce human effort and provide transparent monitoring. A possible of it is through web portal that allows reducing numbers of physical meetings, avoiding double key-in, and allowing authorized personnel to easily access, monitor and analyzing data. Developing a good web portal requires good web pattern design which should be done prior or in earlier stage of a software development as a blueprint of the development. The web design of a web portal development as one of the web dimensions refers to the visualization of the web. Web pattern design has been used to solve commonly occurring problems in web portal development. This paper focuses on the preliminary review of modelview- presenter (MVP) web pattern design and usability heuristics for the development of postgraduate portal. It will discuss some of the existing web pattern design and the selections of the web pattern design which suitable to the development of postgraduate web portal

Although mobile phones have been used widely by millennial generation within the age group of 20-34 there is very limited knowledge about their intention to use mobile application. This paper presents descriptive results regarding factors influencing mobile application intention behavior among millennial based on the response of university students in Malaysia. Theoretical background of this study was based on a review of relevant model of technology acceptance and the second generation of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) was used as the theoretical basis for this study. Of 200 of questionnaire distributed within two months of data collection, 77 valid returned questionnaires were used for the analysis. A reliability as well as descriptive analysis were performed. Based on results, all factors have shown good Cronbach Alpha Values. Descriptively, the result has demonstrated high percentage and frequency in participants’ agreement of the measurement items of the construct except for Social Influence. For future work, an inferential statistical analysis can be performed to uncover predicting power of the factors over the acceptance of the mobile application

Nowadays, social media sites have become very popular and provide more convenient lifestyle to the people today. It has modernized the way people connect, interact and socialize with each other. Due to proliferate of social websites and applications, social media has become an indispensable part of life with the increase in complexities of contemporary times. Besides, the variety of social networking platforms delivered by developers gives end user most likely to facilitate communication by sharing through text, video and audio streams. As a matter of fact, the diversity of entertainments in social media sites might cause an individual over spending time on the computer or smartphone. These circumstances show that people might physically become inactive to learn new knowledge and lack of interest to go for outdoor activities. The main purpose of this study is to find out the communication problem among people. This study entails the investigation to discover social media is playing a key role in human’ current lifestyle

In order to perform everyday activities, a large number of Visually Impaired People (VIP) use mobile applications. The lives of Visually Impaired People (VIP) have gain strength with the use of mobile applications. There are many mobile applications that have still problems for VIP when they use these mobile applications. There are many types of research that are making efforts to solve the problems faced by VIP. There are many operating systems for different mobile applications that support Visually Impaired People (VIP). The better user experience can be provided to VIP by review again on existing mobile applications. This paper observed the patterns of VIP to using mobile applications, in order to fulfill the goal of user-centric standardization of mobile application for visually impaired people. In this paper, 25 VIP participated in performing the task. In the result of observation, there are a lot of usability and accessibility problems during using mobile applications. This paper also suggested the guidelines for user-centric standardization of mobile applications for VIP on the basis of their wishes. In order to conclude, it is suggested that there is a need for user-centric standardization of mobile applications to improve the present conditions of mobile applications for VIP
