On Staging Boojum!
Boojum! was originally performed as a stage musical a dozen or so times by State Opera of South Australia, at t he 1986 Adelaide Festival of Arts; the opening night was attended by Queen Elizabeth II. It was generally regarded as a success, but I was most unhappy with the treatment it received from the director, who rewrote large parts of the show, contrary to an agreement that this would not occur
Physics and Detectors at the LHC and the SLHC
The capabilities of the ATLAS and CMS detectors being prepared for the LHC
are reviewed. Examples of physics signals accessible during early running and
during mature high luminosity LHC operation are examined. The planning and
options for the LHC and these detectors to increase the luminosity to
10^{35}cm^{-2}s^{-1} is presented. This upgrade, entitled the Super LHC (SLHC),
would occur in the next decade. The resulting physics scope is discussed.Comment: Invited talk at 2005 International Linear Collider Physics and

Rethinking Pacific Studies Twenty Years On
This essay reflects on developments in the field since the 1995 publication of âRethinking Pacific Islands Studiesâ first explored a number of intellectual or academic foundations of such programs. It suggests that the pragmatic rationale for Pacific studies, which often has more to do with influence than understanding, and the laboratory rationale, which values Pacific Islanders primarily as objects of study, are both alive and well twenty years on, albeit with more attention among practitioners to issues of positionality, research ethics, and the politics of knowledge. The essay discusses the challenges of realizing the empowerment rationale advocated in the original article but argues that there has been some progress in giving primacy to indigenous perspectives, interests, and epistemologies in Pacific studies scholarship. The essay concludes with a discussion of how the empowerment rationale has informed curriculum and program development at the Center for Pacific Islands Studies at the University of HawaiâiâMÄnoa over the past two decades
Total Rewards Compensation: A Viable Solution
Total rewards customer loyalty programs represent a viable solution for domestic gaming operators in todayâs current economic environment. Total rewards customer loyalty programs provide domestic gaming operators with an unparalleled tool in understanding, identifying, and realizing their customerâs desires. The design of total rewards customer loyalty programs provides domestic gaming operators with the ability to remain fluid and allows quick adaptation to ever changing market conditions. Research suggests that total rewards customer loyalty programs provide domestic gaming operators with a viable financial solution that provides equitable value to customers alike. This paper will analyze the structure of customer loyalty programs by defining and examining its components. This paper will also identify and establish parameters necessary for domestic gaming operators to achieve a successful total rewards customer loyalty program. Finally, this paper will recommend that under current economic conditions that domestic gaming operators invest in the development of total rewards customer loyalty programs in order to drive customer retention and add to financial bottom line
