Investigating the relationship between person–environment fit and safety behavior: A social cognition perspective

    Get PDF
Introduction: This study explored the relationship between person–job fit and safety behavior, as well as the mediating role played by psychological safety, from the perspective of social cognitive theory and person–environment fit theory. Method: A total of 800 employees from petroleum enterprises were recruited, with cluster random sampling used to collect data in two stages. Results: The results showed that employees’ safety behavior is higher under the condition of ‘‘high person–job fit—high person–organization fit” than under that of ‘‘low person–job fit—low person–organization fit.” In other words, the more congruent the level of person–job fit and person–organization fit for a given employee, the higher their level of safety behavior. Practical Applications: Psychological safety plays a mediating role between the congruence of both person–job fit and person–organization fit and employees’ safety behavior

The influence of model quality on self-other mate choice copying

We explored, through two experiments, the influence of model quality and gender on mate choice copying (MCC) behavior for oneself and for others. In the first experiment, we used a 3 (decision-making role: self, stranger, close friend) × 2 (gender: male, female) between-subjects design. The phenomenon of MCC was only found in females. There was no significant difference between making decisions for oneself and for close friends, but there was a significant difference between making decisions for oneself and for strangers. In the second experiment, we used a 2 (model quality: higher, lower) × 3 (decision-making role: self, stranger, close friend) × 2 (gender: male, female) mixed experimental design. Results showed an MCC effect under the condition of high-quality models for both males and females, but no MCC effect for low quality models, either for males or females. Again, there was no significant difference between making decisions for oneself and for close friends, but there was a significant difference between making decisions for oneself and for strangers. These results reveal that context is important for the manifestation of MCC behavior: both women and men are influenced by the choices of high quality models, but ignore the behavior of low quality models

The relationship between subordinates’ moqi and employees’ safety behaviour — a moderated mediation model

Objectives Based on the social information processing theory and impression management theory, we construct a moderated mediation model to explore how and when subordinates’ moqi affects safety behaviour. Methods A questionnaire study was conducted, using cluster random sampling, to select 841 employees from a state-owned petrochemical enterprise in Chinese as the subjects, data was collected in two stages. Subordinates’ moqi, job satisfaction, team psychological safety, and safety behaviour scales are chosen as measuring tools. Results Subordinates’ moqi has positive effects on safety compliance and safety participation; job satisfaction mediates the relationship of subordinates’ moqi and safety compliance, and safety participation; when team psychological safety is at a lower level, subordinates’ moqi has a stronger promotion effect on safety compliance and safety participation through job satisfaction. Conclusions Subordinates’ moqi can be an effect way to promote safety behaviour, and job satisfaction might be a psychological process in the above relation. Team psychological safety plays a moderating role in this mediation process. KEY POINTS What is already known about this topic: There is a limit on the extent to which employees’ safety behaviour can be improved through physical factors (such as safety equipment). Soft factors in organizations, such as leadership styles, leaders’ behaviours, and safety culture have effects on safety behaviour. Subordinates who have a state of moqi with their supervisors can implicitly understand the intention and expectation of their supervisors, and ultimately perform behaviours expected by the supervisors. What this topic adds: The positive relationship between subordinates’ moil and employee safety behaviour is discussed for the first time. We uncovered the psychological process of subordinates’ moqi affecting safety behaviour, that is, the indirect role of job satisfaction. Team psychological safety can moderate the indirect effect of subordinates’ moqi on safety behaviour through job satisfaction

The influence of social comparison on risk decision-making for self and groups in intergroup contexts

Objective The current study aims to explore the influence of social comparison on risk decision-making for self and for groups in intergroup contexts. Method Two experiments with the within-subjects design of 2 (social comparison: upward comparison, downward comparison) × 3 (decision-maker role: for “me”, for “us”, for “them”) were conducted in this study. Experiment 1 focused on the ingroup contexts, and experiment 2 focused on the outgroup contexts. Results (1) in outgroup contexts, individuals are more risk-seeking in upward comparison conditions than in downward comparison conditions. However, the difference disappears in ingroup contexts. (2) Making decisions for “them” is riskier than making decisions for “me” and for “us” with no significant differences between the latter two and consistent across intergroup contexts. (3) The difference in risk decisions made amid upward and downward comparisons is amplified for decisions made for groups. Conclusion The findings may support the selective accessibility model and provide an interpretation with responsibility alleviation for self-group differences in risk decision-making

Knockdown of lncRNA KCNQ1OT1 inhibits glioma progression by regulating miR-338-3p/RRM2

The dysregulated lncRNA play essential roles in glioma development. This study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of lncRNA potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily Q member 1 opposite strand/ antisense transcript 1 (KCNQ1OT1) in glioma progression. Tumor tissues and adjacent normal samples were collected from 30 glioma patients. The expression levels of lncRNA KCNQ1OT1, microRNA (miR)-338-3p and ribonucleotide reductase M2 (RRM2) were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction or western blot analyses. Levels of cell viability, apoptosis, cell migration and invasion in glioma cell lines were determined using cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry with annexin V-FITC and trans-well assays, respectively. The role of KCNQ1OT1 in glioma development in vivo was investigated using a xenograft model. The target association between miR-338-3p and KCNQ1OT1 or RRM2 was validated by luciferase reporter assay. The results found that expression of KCNQ1OT1 was enhanced in glioma tissues and cells, and KCNQ1OT1 knockdown inhibited cell viability, migration and invasion, and xenograft tumor growth, but promoted apoptosis. miR-338-3p was targeted via KCNQ1OT1 and could reverse the effect of KCNQ1OT1 on glioma progression. RRM2 was targeted via miR-338-3p and attenuated the suppressive effect of miR-338-3p on glioma cell viability, migration and invasion. Besides, KCNQ1OT1 overexpression increased RRM2 expression, and this event was weakened via miR-338-3p up-regulation. In conclusion, the present finding suggest that silencing of KCNQ1OT1 can suppress the development and progression of glioma by up-regulating miR-338-3p and down-regulating RRM2

Fluorinated Aryl Sulfonimide Tagged (FAST) salts: modular synthesis and structure–property relationships for battery applications

Solid-state electrolytes are attracting great interest for their applications in potentially safe and stable high-capacity energy storage technologies. Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) is widely used as a lithium ion source, especially in solid-state polymer electrolytes, due to its solubility and excellent chemical and electrochemical stability. Unfortunately, chemically inert LiTFSI cannot be easily modified to optimize its properties or allow for conjugation to other molecules, polymers, or substrates to prepare single-ion conducting polymer electrolytes. Chemical modifications of TFSI often Erode its advantageous properties. Herein, we introduce Fluorinated Aryl Sulfonimide Tagged (FAST) salts, which are derived from successive nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reactions. Experimental studies and density functional theory calculations were used to assess the electrochemical oxidative stabilities, chemical stabilities, and degrees of ion dissociation of FAST salts as a function of their structures. FAST salts offer a platform for accessing functional sulfonimides without sacrificing many of the advantageous properties of TFSI
