Revisiting Stereo Triangulation in UAV Distance Estimation

Distance estimation plays an important role for path planning and collision avoidance of swarm UAVs. However, the lack of annotated data seriously hinders the related studies. In this work, we build and present a UAVDE dataset for UAV distance estimation, in which distance between two UAVs is obtained by UWB sensors. During experiments, we surprisingly observe that the stereo triangulation cannot stand for UAV scenes. The core reason is the position deviation issue due to long shooting distance and camera vibration, which is common in UAV scenes. To tackle this issue, we propose a novel position correction module, which can directly predict the offset between the observed positions and the actual ones and then perform compensation in stereo triangulation calculation. Besides, to further boost performance on hard samples, we propose a dynamic iterative correction mechanism, which is composed of multiple stacked PCMs and a gating mechanism to adaptively determine whether further correction is required according to the difficulty of data samples. We conduct extensive experiments on UAVDE, and our method can achieve a significant performance improvement over a strong baseline (by reducing the relative difference from 49.4% to 9.8%), which demonstrates its effectiveness and superiority. Dapper, Dishevelled-associated antagonist of beta-catenin (DACT), is a key regulator of Wnt signaling pathway. The purpose of this study is to explore the epigenetic changes and the function of DACT2 in human gastric cancer (GC). Eight human gastric cancer cell lines, 167 cases of primary gastric cancer and 8 cases of normal gastric mucosa were involved in this study. In addition, methylation Specific PCR (MSP), semi-quantitative RT-PCR, colony formation assay, flow cytometry assay, siRNA, immunofluorescence techniques and xenograft mice models were employed. The results indicate that DACT2 is frequently methylated in human primary gastric cancer (55.7%), and that methylation of DACT2 is associated with lost or reduction in its expression (X-2 test, P<0.01). We found that DACT2 expression was regulated by promoter region hypermethylation. Methylation of DACT2 is associated with tumor differentiation, invasion and intravascular cancerous emboli (X-2 test, P<0.05, P<0.05 and P<0.05). In gastric cancer patients treated with 5-FU and cisplatin, the five-year survival rates are higher in DACT2 methylated cases. DACT2 inhibits cell proliferation, migration and invasion in gastric cancer cells and suppresses gastric cancer xenografts in mice. Restoration of DACT2 expression inhibits both canonical and noncanonical WNT signaling in SGC7901 cells. Restoration of DACT2 expression sensitized gastric cancer cells to paclitaxel and 5-FU. In conclusion, DACT2 is frequently methylated in human gastric cancer and DACT2 expression is silenced by promoter region hypermethylation. DACT2 suppressed gastric cancer proliferation, invasion and metastasis by inhibiting Wnt signaling both in vitro and in vivo.OncologySCI(E)[email protected]; [email protected]

Salient region detection: an integration approach based on image pyramid and region property

Salient region detection is important for many computer vision tasks. The saliency detection results may serve as the basis for further highā€level vision tasks like object segmentation and tracking. In this study, the authors propose an integration approach to detect salient region based on three principles from psychological evidence and observations of images, including colour contrast in a global context, spatially compact colour distribution, multiā€scale image abstraction. Based on the aboveā€mentioned principles, the authorsā€™ saliency analysis approach can be formulated in a unified framework. Moreover, they introduce the weighted salient image centre into their saliency estimation model which can boost the performance of saliency detection. They have evaluated the results of their method on the two publicly available databases, including MSRAā€1000 and MSRAā€5000. The experimental results on the datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the approaches against the other approaches to analyse image saliency

Objective: This study explored the correlation between a Th1/Th2 cytokines imbalance and 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (vit D) level in early chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), provided experimental rationales for the role of vit D in the prevention and control of COPD, and elucidated the potential anti-inflammatory mechanism involved. Methods: This study was based on the results of the ā€œScreening and Early Diagnosis of COPDā€ public health project conducted through Shenzhen Municipal Qianhai Shekou Free Trade Zone Hospital. Patients with early COPD were selected as study participants. A prospective, randomized, and controlled method was employed for assigning eligible participants into three groups, i.e., a COPD lung function (LF) I, COPD LF II, and a healthy group, respectively (n = 40 each). The serum content of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-Ī±), interferon-gamma (IFN-Ī³), interleukin 4 (IL-4), and IL-6 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the ratio of IFN-Ī³/IL-4 treated as a marker for Th1/Th2. The serum concentration of 25-hydroxyl-vit D (25 [OH]D) was quantified by a chemiluminescence assay. Statistical processing was performed, and the correlations between changes in the above parameters with vit D level and LF parameters were examined. Results: There were differences in FEV1pred%, FEV1/FVC, IFN-Ī³, IL-4, IL-6 and IFN-Ī³/IL-4 between the healthy group, the COPD LF I group and the COPD LF II group (p < 0.05). In early COPD, Th1/Th2 cytokines was positively correlated with forced expiratory volume/expected value (FEV1pred%) (r = 0.485, p < 0.001) and forced expiratory volume/forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) (r = 0.273, p = 0.018); Th1/Th2 cytokines levels positively correlated with vit D level (r = 0.27, p = 0.02), and 25(OH)D level positively correlated with FEV1pred% (r = 0.695, p < 0.001).Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency was ubiquitous in patients with early COPD. It was positively correlated with the FEV1pred% and FEV1/FVC LF parameters. Accordingly, this study provides experimental rationales for the role of vit D in the prevention and control of COPD and the potential anti-inflammatory mechanisms involved

Urbanization and industrialization have spurred air pollution, making it a global problem. An understanding of the spatiotemporal characteristics of PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5 μm and 10 μm, respectively) is necessary to mitigate air pollution. We compared the characteristics of PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations and their trends of China, India, and the U.S. from 2014 to 2017. Particulate matter levels were lowest in the U.S., while China showed higher concentrations, and India showed the highest. Interestingly, significant declines in PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations were found in some of the most polluted regions in China as well as the U.S. No comparable decline was observed in India. A strong seasonal trend was observed in China and India, with the highest values occurring in winter and the lowest in summer. The opposite trend was noted for the U.S. PM2.5 was highly correlated with PM10 for both China and India, but the correlation was poor for the U.S. With regard to reducing particulate matter pollutant concentrations, developing countries can learn from the experiences of developed nations and benefit by establishing and implementing joint regional air pollution control programs

Abstract Background and objective Although chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disease leading to further morbidity and significant mortality, there is still limited data on screening for COPD. The purpose of this study was to establish an early chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) screening system for the community and hospitals in Nanshan District in Shenzhen City, to improve the rate of early diagnosis and treatment of patients with COPD. Methods We identified individuals at high risk of COPD using a questionnaire survey and analyzed the relevant influencing factors in the early stages of COPD in high-risk groups. Results We collected a total of 5,000 COPD screening questionnaires, and a total of 449 patients were diagnosed with COPD by pulmonary function examination. The prevalence of COPD in people aged 20 and above in Nanshan District of Shenzhen City was estimated to be 8.98%, with a base of 5000. The severity classification as per the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) criteria was as follows: GOLD I accounted for 34.74%; GOLD II accounted for 37.64%; GOLD III accounted for 16.04%; and GOLD IV accounted for 11.58%. Common features of early COPD that we identified were: (1) patients were mainly males, accounting for 68.0%; (2) COPD was common among people aged 50ā€“59 years, comprising 31%; (3) 96.0% of patients often had severe respiratory symptoms and had frequent coughs when they did not have a cold; (4) 57.2% of patients experienced shortness of breath when walking quickly on level ground or climbing gentle slopes; (5) 72.6% of patients had a family history of bronchial asthma and COPD. Multivariate ordinal multi-classification logistic regression showed that gender, age, shortness of breath, and the use of firewood, grass, and coal stoves were all influencing factors in pulmonary function grading. Conclusion A screening questionnaire combined with a pulmonary function test should be adopted as a COPD screening strategy to be implemented at the primary level as a public health priority in China to reduce the incidence, disability, and mortality from COPD
