Task-driven Semantic-aware Green Cooperative Transmission Strategy for Vehicular Networks

Considering the infrastructure deployment cost and energy consumption, it is unrealistic to provide seamless coverage of the vehicular network. The presence of uncovered areas tends to hinder the prevalence of the in-vehicle services with large data volume. To this end, we propose a predictive cooperative multi-relay transmission strategy (PreCMTS) for the intermittently connected vehicular networks, fulfilling the 6G vision of semantic and green communications. Specifically, we introduce a task-driven knowledge graph (KG)-assisted semantic communication system, and model the KG into a weighted directed graph from the viewpoint of transmission. Meanwhile, we identify three predictable parameters about the individual vehicles to perform the following anticipatory analysis. Firstly, to facilitate semantic extraction, we derive the closed-form expression of the achievable throughput within the delay requirement. Then, for the extracted semantic representation, we formulate the mutually coupled problems of semantic unit assignment and predictive relay selection as a combinatorial optimization problem, to jointly optimize the energy efficiency and semantic transmission reliability. To find a favorable solution within limited time, we proposed a low-complexity algorithm based on Markov approximation. The promising performance gains of the PreCMTS are demonstrated by the simulations with realistic vehicle traces generated by the SUMO traffic simulator.Comment: Accepted by IEEE Transactions on Communication

POSIT: Part-based object segmentation without intensive training

No full text
Object segmentation is a well-known difficult problem in pattern recognition. Until now, most of the existing object segmentation methods need to go through a time-consuming training phase prior to segmentation. Both robustness and efficiency of the existing methods have room for improvement In this work we propose a new methodology, called POSIT, for object segmentation without intensive training process. We construct a part-based shape model to substitute the training process. In the part-based framework we sequentially register object parts in the prior model to an image so that the searching space is largely reduced. Another advantage of the sequential matching is that instead of predefining the weighting parameters for the terms in the matching evaluation function, we can estimate the parameters in our model on the fly. Finally, we fine-tune the previous coarse segmentation by localized graph cuts. In the experiments, POSIT has been tested on numerous natural horse and cow images and the obtained results show the accuracy. robustness and efficiency of the proposed object segmentation method. Copper is an indispensable micronutrient in human health, which has important effects on the promotion of angiogenesis and thus contributes to bone formation and antimicrobial activity. We used ion exchange and pneumatic printing methods to prepare hydroxyapatite (HA) microspheres with different copper content. The microspheres were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Considering the resistance of hydroxyapatite to biodegradation in vivo, the degradation rate of microspheres in modified simulated body fluids was studied. In addition, cell proliferation and antibacterial experiments were carried out to study the biological properties of microspheres. HA-1.5MCu microbeads treated by 1.5 mol/L CuSO4 curing solution have good performance on degradation, antibacterial properties and cell survival rate on day 7. The results showed that HA-1.5MCu microbeads may be used as a good repair material for bone defects

Shape-based image segmentation using normalized cuts

No full text
To segment a whole object from an image is an essential and challenging task in image processing. In this paper, we propose a hybrid segmentation algorithm which combines prior shape information with normalized cut. With the help of shape information, we can utilize normalized cut to correctly segment the target whose boundary may be corrupted by noise or outliers. At the same time, we introduce the use of segmentation results of the normalized cut to guide the shape model, and thus avoid searching the shape space. The proposed method was demonstrated to be effective by our experiments on both synthetic and real data

Age and Feeding Habits of Caml Grenadier Macrourus caml in Cosmonauts Sea

Macrourus caml is a main by-catch in the Southern Ocean fishery and a main prey species of Antarctic toothfish Dissostichus mawsoni; it plays an important role in the Southern Ocean ecosystem. In this study, age estimation and stomach content analysis were conducted by using samples collected from the Cosmonauts Sea in 2021. The main objectives of this study were to estimate the age and diet of grenadier M. caml and explore the feeding habits of M. caml. Morphological analysis and molecular identification were conducted to determine the diet of M. caml in this study. Stomach content analysis showed that M. caml mainly fed on Malacostraca, Sagittoidea, Cnidaria and Algae, with the Malacostraca accounting for over 50%. The feeding habits of male and female M. caml were similar. The age of M. caml ranged from 9 to 19 years. Additionally, with the increase of body size, the proportion of Cnidaria was decreasing whereas the proportion of Malacostraca was increasing. The results would provide a reference for exploring the trophic level of M. caml and the food web in the Cosmonauts Sea
