Calibrating the effective magnitudes of type Ia supernovae with a model-independent method
This research explores the correlation between the absolute magnitude and the
redshift of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) with a model-independent approach. The
Pantheon sample of SNe Ia and strong gravitational lensing systems (SGLS) are
used. With the cosmic distance-duality relation (CDDR), the evolution parameter
of the magnitude, the light curve parameters of SNe Ia, and the parameters of
the SGLS geometric model are constrained simultaneously. Considering the
consistency of the redshifts, we selected a subsample of SNe Ia in which the
redshift of each SNe Ia is close to the corresponding redshift of the SGLS
sample. Two parametric models are used to describe this evolution, which can be
written as and ,
respectively. Our analysis reveals that
in the first parametric model and in the
second model, indicating that no significant evolution () is
supported at the 1 confidence level in this study. These results
represent a significant advancement in our understanding of the intrinsic
properties of SNe Ia and provide important constraints for future SNe Ia study.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, Accepted by Physical Review
Curcumin-Loaded Mixed Micelles: Preparation, Characterization, and In Vitro
The objective of this study was to prepare curcumin-loaded mixed Soluplus/TPGS micelles (Cur-TPGS-PMs) for oral administration. The Cur-TPGS-PMs showed a mean size of 65.54 ± 2.57 nm, drug encapsulation efficiency over 85%, and drug loading of 8.17%. The Cur-TPGS-PMs were found to be stable in various pH media (pH 1.2 for 2 h, pH 6.8 for 2 h, and pH 7.4 for 6 h). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns illustrated that curcumin was in the amorphous or molecular state within PMs. The In vitro release test indicated that Cur-TPGS-PMs possessed a significant sustained-release property. The cell viability in MCF-7 cells was found to be relatively lower in Cur-TPGS-PM-treated cells as compared to free Cur-treated cells. CLSM imaging revealed that mixed micelles were efficiently absorbed into the cytoplasm region of MCF-7 cells. Therefore, Cur-TPGS-PMs could have the significant value for the chronic breast cancer therapy
Effect of Microstructure on the Compressive Mechanical Properties of Ti-20Zr-6.5Al-4V Alloy
The effect of microstructure on the mechanical properties of Ti-20Zr-6.5Al-4V alloy after solution and aging treatment was investigated by compression tests. The results showed that the microstructure was consisted of a duplex phase αʺ + β structure after solution treatment. With increasing solution treatment temperature, the size of β phase grain increased and the amount of αʺ phase decreased. The ultimate compressive strength and elongation decreased with increasing solution treatment temperature, while the yield strength increased. After aging-treatment at 700 ºC for 1.5 h, the microstructure consisted of a large amount of globular α phase, a little amount of fine acicular α phase and bulk β phase for the samples solution-treated at 850 ºC for 0.5 h. With increasing initial solution treatment temperature, the amount of globular α phase and bulk β phase decreased, however, the amount and size of acicular α phase increased after aging treatment. The ultimate compressive strength and elongation decreased with increasing initial solution treatment temperature, whereas the yield strength firstly increased, and then slightly decreased.</p
Evaluations of multiple Dirichlet -values via symmetric functions
We explicitly evaluate a special type of multiple Dirichlet -values at
positive integers in two different ways: One approach involves using symmetric
functions, while the other involves using a generating function of the values.
Equating these two expressions, we derive several summation formulae involving
the Bernoulli and Euler numbers. Moreover, values at non-positive integers,
called central limit values, are also studied.Comment: 18 page
Identification and verification of a prognostic signature based on a miRNA–mRNA interaction pattern in colon adenocarcinoma
The expression characteristics of non-coding RNA (ncRNA) in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) are involved in regulating various biological processes. To achieve these functions, ncRNA and a member of the Argonaute protein family form an RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC). The RISC is directed by ncRNA, especially microRNA (miRNA), to bind the target complementary mRNAs and regulate their expression by interfering with mRNA cleavage, degradation, or translation. However, how to identify potential miRNA biomarkers and therapeutic targets remains unclear. Here, we performed differential gene screening based on The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset and annotated meaningful differential genes to enrich related biological processes and regulatory cancer pathways. According to the overlap between the screened differential mRNAs and differential miRNAs, a prognosis model based on a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator-based Cox proportional hazards regression analysis can be established to obtain better prognosis characteristics. To further explore the therapeutic potential of miRNA as a target of mRNA intervention, we conducted an immunohistochemical analysis and evaluated the expression level in the tissue microarray of 100 colorectal cancer patients. The results demonstrated that the expression level of POU4F1, DNASE1L2, and WDR72 in the signature was significantly upregulated in COAD and correlated with poor prognosis. Establishing a prognostic signature based on miRNA target genes will help elucidate the molecular pathogenesis of COAD and provide novel potential targets for RNA therapy
Cytokine concentration in peripheral blood of patients with colorectal cancer
IntroductionThe role of tumour secretory cytokines and peripheral circulatory cytokines in tumour progression has received increasing attention; however, the role of tumour-related inflammatory cytokines in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unclear. In this study, the concentrations of various cytokines in the peripheral blood of healthy controls and patients with CRC at different stages were compared.MethodsPeripheral blood samples from 4 healthy participants and 22 colorectal cancer patients were examined. Luminex beads were used to evaluate concentration levels of 40 inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood samples.ResultsIn peripheral blood, compared with healthy controls and early stage (I + II) CRC patients, advanced CRC (III + IV) patients had increased concentrations of mononuclear/macrophage chemotactic-related proteins (CCL7, CCL8, CCL15, CCL2, and MIF), M2 polarization-related factors (IL-1β, IL-4), neutrophil chemotactic and N2 polarization-related cytokines (CXCL2, CXCL5, CXCL6, IL-8), dendritic cells (DCs) chemotactic-related proteins (CCL19, CCL20, and CCL21), Natural killer (NK) cell related cytokines (CXCL9, CXCL10), Th2 cell-related cytokines (CCL1, CCL11, CCL26), CXCL12, IL-2, CCL25, and CCL27, and decreased IFN-γ and CX3CL1 concentrations. The differential upregulation of cytokines in peripheral blood was mainly concentrated in CRC patients with distant metastasis and was related to the size of the primary tumour; however, there was no significant correlation between cytokine levels in peripheral blood and the propensity and mechanism of lymph node metastasis.DiscussionDifferent types of immune cells may share the same chemokine receptors and can co-localise in response to the same chemokines and exert synergistic pro-tumour or anti-tumour functions in the tumour microenvironment. Chemokines and cytokines affect tumour metastasis and prognosis and may be potential targets for treatment
The alteration of the structure and macroscopic mechanical response of porcine patellar tendon by elastase digestion
Background: The treatment of patellar tendon injury has always been an unsolved problem, and mechanical characterization is very important for its repair and reconstruction. Elastin is a contributor to mechanics, but it is not clear how it affects the elasticity, viscoelastic properties, and structure of patellar tendon. Methods: The patellar tendons from six fresh adult experimental pigs were used in this study and they were made into 77 samples. The patellar tendon was specifically degraded by elastase, and the regional mechanical response and structural changes were investigated by: (1) Based on the previous study of elastase treatment conditions, the biochemical quantification of collagen, glycosaminoglycan and total protein was carried out; (2) The patellar tendon was divided into the proximal, central, and distal regions, and then the axial tensile test and stress relaxation test were performed before and after phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) or elastase treatment; (3) The dynamic constitutive model was established by the obtained mechanical data; (4) The structural relationship between elastin and collagen fibers was analyzed by two-photon microscopy and histology. Results: There was no statistical difference in mechanics between patellar tendon regions. Compared with those before elastase treatment, the low tensile modulus decreased by 75%–80%, the high tensile modulus decreased by 38%–47%, and the transition strain was prolonged after treatment. For viscoelastic behavior, the stress relaxation increased, the initial slope increased by 55%, the saturation slope increased by 44%, and the transition time increased by 25% after enzyme treatment. Elastin degradation made the collagen fibers of patellar tendon become disordered and looser, and the fiber wavelength increased significantly. Conclusion: The results of this study show that elastin plays an important role in the mechanical properties and fiber structure stability of patellar tendon, which supplements the structure-function relationship information of patellar tendon. The established constitutive model is of great significance to the prediction, repair and replacement of patellar tendon injury. In addition, human patellar tendon has a higher elastin content, so the results of this study can provide supporting information on the natural properties of tendon elastin degradation and guide the development of artificial patellar tendon biomaterials
Large-Range Switchable Asymmetric Transmission and Circular Conversion Dichroism in a VO2 Based Metasurface
Reconfigurable chiral metasurfaces with a dynamic polarization manipulation capability are highly required in optical integrated systems. In this paper, we simultaneously realized giant and large-range switchable asymmetric transmission (AT) and circular conversion dichroism (CCD) in a vanadium dioxide (VO2) based metasurface. The AT and CCD of the insulator VO2 based metasurface reached 0.95 and 0.92, respectively. Utilizing the insulator-to-metallic phase transition of VO2, the AT and CCD could be continuously switched to near zero. Furthermore, the physics mechanism of the giant and switchable AT and CCD were analyzed. The proposed metasurface with large-range switchable AT and CCD is promising in applications of biochemistry detection, chiral imaging, and biosensing
