    QCD corrections to the R-parity violating processes ppˉ/pp→eμ+Xp\bar{p}/pp \to e\mu+X at hadron colliders

    We present the QCD corrections to the processes ppˉ/pp→eμ+Xp\bar{p}/pp \to e\mu+X at the Tevatron and the CERN large hadron collider(LHC). The numerical results show that variation of K factor is in the range between 1.28(1.32)1.28(1.32) and 1.79(1.58)1.79(1.58) at the Tevatron(LHC). We find that the QCD correction part from the one-loop gluon-gluon fusion subprocess is remarkable at the LHC and should be taken into account.Comment: 7 pages, 6 Postscript figures, to be appeared in Phy.     Load-balanced parallel banded-system solvers

    AbstractSolving banded systems is important in the applications of science and engineering. This paper presents a load-balancing strategy for solving banded systems in parallel when the number of processors used is small. An optimization-based load-balancing analysis is given to determine how many loads should be assigned to each processor in order to minimize the time requirement. Some experimentations are carried out on the nCUBE 2E multiprocessor to demonstrate the speedup advantage of the proposed load-balancing strategy. The speedup improvement ratio ranges from 47% to 66% (from 12% to 24%) when using 4 (8) processors

    A Comparative Study for 2D and 3D Computer-aided Diagnosis Methods for Solitary Pulmonary Nodules

    Many computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) methods, including 2D and 3D approaches, have been proposed for solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs). However, the detection and diagnosis of SPNs remain challenging in many clinical circumstances. One goal of this work is to investigate the relative diagnostic accuracy of 2D and 3D methods. An additional goal is to develop a two-stage approach that combines the simplicity of 2D and the accuracy of 3D methods. The experimental results show statistically significant differences between the diagnostic accuracy of 2D and 3D methods. The results also show that with a very minor drop in diagnostic performance the two-stage approach can significantly reduce the number of nodules needed to be processed by the 3D method, streamlining the computational demand

    The Design of Nonlinear Chirp Based on the DSP Builder Technique

    This paper, by analyzing the function Chirp, studies the software design and realization of the function. It offers a design plan based on the nonlinear Chirp signal of DSP Builder technique and designs the signal generator of the nonlinear Chirp based on the design flow of Matlab/Simulink/DSP Builder/Quartusll. It also conducts simulation verification using the development software Matlab/Simulink and Quartusll, proving that the design can well realize the signal source Chirp. The experiment proves that the DSP Builder technique can modify the starting frequency, bandwidth and the frequency resolution of linear frequency modulation signals by changing the programming parameters. The method is proved to be simple in designing, convenient in modification, low in cost and it doesn’t involve any programming; therefore, it is easy to realize

    Epidemiology of extended-spectrum β-lactamases in Enterobacterales in Taiwan for over two decades

    The emergence of antimicrobial resistance among microorganisms is a serious public health concern, and extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL)-producing Enterobacterales is one of the major concerns among antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Although the prevalence of ESBL in Enterobacterales has been increasing with time, the prevalence of ESBL could differ according to the species, hospital allocation, sources of infections, nosocomial or community acquisitions, and geographic regions. Therefore, we conducted a comprehensive review of the epidemiology of ESBL-producing Enterobacterales in Taiwan. Overall, the rates of ESBL producers are higher in northern regions than in other parts of Taiwan. In addition, the genotypes of ESBL vary according to different Enterobacterales. SHV-type ESBLs (SHV-5 and SHV-12) were the major types of Enterobacter cloacae complex, but Serratia marcescens, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were more likely to possess CTX-M-type ESBLs (CTX-M-3 and CTX-M-14). Moreover, a clonal sequence type of O25b-ST131 has been emerging among urinary or bloodstream E. coli isolates in the community in Taiwan, and this clone was potentially associated with virulence, ESBL (CTX-M-15) production, ciprofloxacin resistance, and mortality. Finally, the evolution of the genetic traits of the ESBL-producing Enterobacterales isolates helps us confirm the interhospital and intrahospital clonal dissemination in several regions of Taiwan. In conclusion, continuous surveillance in the investigation of ESBL production among Enterobacterales is needed to establish its long-term epidemiology

    Bright 22 μ\mum Excess Candidates from WISE All-Sky Catalog and Hipparcos Main Catalog

    In this paper we present a catalog which includes 141 bright candidates (≤10.27\leq10.27 mag, V band) showing the infrared (IR) excess at 22 μ\mum. Of which, 38 stars are known IR excess stars or disk, 23 stars are double or multiple stars and 4 are Be stars. While the remaining more than 70 stars are identified as the 22 μ\mum excess candidates in our work. The criterion of selecting candidates is Ks−[22]μmK_s-[22]_{\mu m}. All these candidates are selected from \emph{WISE} All-sky data cross-correlated with \emph{Hipparcos} Main Catalog and the likelihood-ratio technique is employed. Considering the effect of background, we introduce the \emph{IRAS} 100 μ\mum level to exclude the high background. We also estimated the coincidence probability of these sources. In addition, we presented the optical to mid-infrared SEDs and optical images of all the candidates, and gave the observed optical spectra of 6 stars with NAOC's 2.16-m telescope. To measure for the dust amount around each star, the fractional luminosity is also provided. We also test whether our method of selecting IR excess stars can be used to search for extra-solar planets, we cross-matched our catalog with known IR-excess stars having planets but none is matched. Finally, we give the fraction of stars showing IR-excess for different spectral type of main-sequence stars.Comment: 45 pages, 16 figures, 4 tables. Accepted for publication in ApJ
