    The influence of organizational environment on mobile game development team effectiveness – A single case study

    The mobile gaming industry is a fast-growing and lucrative market, which has surpassed the money generated by consoles and PC games, and the market is going to grow continuously. Games are produced by teams that need to have diverse technical and creative skills and competences as well as good understanding of customer expectations. Nonetheless, there is limited literature on mobile game development teams, and particularly on the management practices and organizational structures that support their functioning. Therefore, this research sets out to discover how organizational environment affects the effectiveness of game development teams. Since this study only focuses on the influence of organizational environment, the team effectiveness model introduced by McShane and Von Glinow was adopted. The thesis divides organizational environment into organizational structure and leadership styles for further study. Literature about team design and team processes is also discussed in this study from in the context of mobile game development. Finally, a theoretical framework was drawn based on the reviewed literature. The empirical part of this research was conducted as a single case study. Empirical data was collected through interviews in the case company with top management and team leaders, who are involved in game development and decision-making process. The case company's games have occupied the top positions in top grossing list in AppStore, which makes it interesting for the empirical investigation. The findings of this thesis explain that organizational environment affects team design gradually. It is like a pyramid where the foundation is a flat organization which helps the company with team composition. In the middle of the pyramid is the stable organizational environment which helps with team stability. On top of the pyramid, the organic organizational structure and servant leadership, which is built upon flat and stable organizational environment, helps development teams to be autonomous. Right members in teams, high extent of team stability and team autonomy altogether have positive effects on team processes and in turn increase team effectiveness.In addition, a balance between autonomy and control is a critical issue for managers to consider. In this study, some practicalities learned from the case study were provided. Thus, this study provides implications for mobile gaming companies by investigating teams' functioning responsive for development of successfully games

    Psychological Effects of False-Positive Results in Expanded Newborn Screening in China

    Objectives: As more families participate expanded newborn screening for metabolic disorders in China, the overall number of false positives increases. Our goal was to assess the potential impact on parental stress, perceptions of the child’s health, and family relationships. Methods: Parents of 49 infants with false-positive screening results for metabolic disorders in the expanded newborn screening panel were compared with parents of 42 children with normal screening results. Parents first completed structured interview using likert scales, closed and open questions. Parents also completed the parenting stress index. Results: A total of 88 mothers and 41 fathers were interviewed. More mothers in the false-positive group reported that their children required extra parental care (21%), compared with 5 % of mothers in the normal-screened group (P,0.001). 39 % of mothers in the false-positive group reported that they worry about their child’s future development, compared with 10 % of mothers in the normal-screened group (P,0.001). Fathers in the false-positive group did not differ from fathers in the normal-screened group in reporting worry about their child’s extra care requirements, and their child’s future development. Children with false-positive results compared with children with normal results were triple as likely to experience hospitalization (27%vs 9%, respectively; P,0.001).     Cross-sectional study of the relationship of peripheral blood cell profiles with severity of infection by adenovirus type 55

    BACKGROUND: The immunologic profiles of patients with human adenovirus serotype 55 (HAdV-55) infections were characterized in subjects diagnosed with silent infections (n = 30), minor infections (n = 27), severe infections (n = 34), and healthy controls (n = 30) during a recent outbreak among Chinese military trainees. METHODS: Blood was sampled at the disease peak and four weeks later, and samples were analyzed to measure changes in leukocyte and platelet profiles in patients with different severities of disease. Differential lymphocyte subsets and cytokine profiles were measured by flow cytometry and Luminex xMAP®, and serum antibodies were analyzed by ELISA and immunofluorescence staining. RESULTS: Patients with severe HAdV infections had higher proportions of neutrophils and reduced levels of lymphocytes (p < 0.005 for both). Patients with minor and severe infections had significantly lower platelet counts (p < 0.005 for both) than those with silent infections. The silent and minor infection groups had higher levels of dendritic cells than the severe infection group. Relative to patients with silent infections, patients with severe infections had significantly higher levels of IL-17(+)CD4(+) cells, decreased levels of IL-17(+)CD8(+) cells, and higher levels of IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-10, and IFN-α2 (p < 0.001 for all comparisons). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with different severities of disease due to HAdV-55 infection had significantly different immune responses. These data provide an initial step toward the identification of patients at risk for more severe disease and the development of treatments against HAdV-55 infection

    An experimental study on coal gas desorption laws with different particle size

    Abstract Based on the self-designed coal containing methane gas desorption law experimental system and coal gas desorption kinetics law, the gas desorption law for different particle size coal under isothermal-isobaric condition are measured by combining combined simulation measurement with the theoretical analysis. The effect of particle size on coal gas desorption laws are obtained through fitting analysis on experimental data: 1.Under the same sorption and desorption conditions, coal particle size was inversely related to total desorption gas amount in the same period. 2. For coal with any particle size, the gas desorption amount firstly increased as time, and finally reached the maximum value, which was equal to the gas sorption amount unit per mass. 3. For coal with higher gas and coal outburst risk trend, the effect of particle size on initial desorption velocity and total desorption amount with time was less. 4. Within the limit particle size, the gas initial desorption velocity had a negative relationship with particle size.     Effect of weaning age on growth performance, feed efficiency, nutrient digestibility and blood-biochemical parameters in Droughtmaster crossbred beef calves

    Objective The objective of this study was to determine the effect of weaning age on intake, performance, nutrition metabolism and serum parameters of beef calves. Methods Sixty Droughtmaster crossbred calves were assigned to 5 groups with 12 calves in each group. The calves in control group remained with the dams till the 22-week age, while the calves weaned at 28 d (4 wk), 42 d (6 wk), 56 d (8 wk), and 70 d (10 wk) of age were sent to group 4 wk, group 6 wk, group 8 wk, and group 10 wk, respectively, and then were fed on milk replacer till the 22-week age. Feed intake and body weight and size were record and blood metabolites were measured. And 24 calves of them (6 in each group) were picked randomly for digestion and metabolism trail. Feed, feces and urine sample were taken and measured. Results Dry matter intake of calves in group 4 wk was significantly lower than those in the remaining groups from wk 17 to 22 (p0.05) but was higher than that of group 4 wk (p<0.05). Calves in group 6 wk had higher final body weight and total gain than group 4 wk, but no difference of total gain with that of groups 8 wk, 10 wk, and control group. And weaning calves at 6-week age brought higher feed efficiency and average daily gain from wk 14 to wk 22, and higher dry matter and organic matter digestibility at 21 wk. Conclusion It is concluded that the weaning of calves at 6 weeks of age gave positive results

    Purification and Characterization of Hemagglutinating Proteins from Poker-Chip Venus (Meretrix lusoria) and Corbicula Clam (Corbicula fluminea)

    Hemagglutinating proteins (HAPs) were purified from Poker-chip Venus (Meretrix lusoria) and Corbicula clam (Corbicula fluminea) using gel-filtration chromatography on a Sephacryl S-300 column. The molecular weights of the HAPs obtained from Poker-chip Venus and Corbicula clam were 358 kDa and 380 kDa, respectively. Purified HAP from Poker-chip Venus yielded two subunits with molecular weights of 26 kDa and 29 kDa. However, only one HAP subunit was purified from Corbicula clam, and its molecular weight was 32 kDa. The two Poker-chip Venus HAPs possessed hemagglutinating ability (HAA) for erythrocytes of some vertebrate animal species, especially tilapia. Moreover, HAA of the HAP purified from Poker-chip Venus was higher than that of the HAP of Corbicula clam. Furthermore, Poker-chip Venus HAPs possessed better HAA at a pH higher than 7.0. When the temperature was at 4°C–10°C or the salinity was less than 0.5‰, the two Poker-chip Venus HAPs possessed better HAA compared with that of Corbicula clam

    Visual Attention Performances and Related Cerebral Microstructural Integrity Among Subjects With Subjective Cognitive Decline and Mild Cognitive Impairment

    Objective: To compare visual attention performances and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) between subjects with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and to discover neuronal substrates related to visual attention performances.Methods: Thirty-nine subjects with SCD and 15 with MCI, diagnosed following neuropsychological tests and conventional brain magnetic resonance imaging, were recruited. All subjects were further examined by the Conners Continuous Performance Test 3 (CPT3) and DTI including fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD), in which group comparisons and stepwise linear regression were made.Results: Subjects with MCI had a worse performance in all retrieval indices of verbal/nonverbal memory tests than those with SCD in the context of comparable general cognition and demographic status. In the CPT3, subjects with MCI had a significant longer hit reaction time (HRT) by univariate but not multivariate comparisons. Further analysis suggested that a longer HRT across all interstimuli intervals and at the point of fourth to sixth blocks were noted among MCI subjects. In DTI evaluations, FA value within the left forceps major was the only hotspot with significant between-group differences after the Bonferroni correction of FA and MD values. On the basis that HRT had significant inverse correlations with FA value within the genu of the corpus callosum and left forceps minor, regression analysis was conducted, showing HRT was best predicted by the FA value within the left forceps minor. Area under receiver operative characteristic curve was 0.70; the optimum cut-off for HRT was 515.8 ms, with a sensitivity of 85% but specificity of 47%.Conclusions: Our report suggested that impaired sustained attention and vigilance to be an early cognitive marker in differentiating MCI from SCD, where MCI subjects had a longer HRT across all interstimuli intervals and more profoundly in later blocks. FA measures appeared to be more sensitive DTI parameters than MD values in detecting microstructural changes between SCD and MCI.
