    This paper shows a brief review on CDCC and the microscopic reaction theory as a fundamental theory of CDCC. The Kerman-McManus-Thaler theory for nucleon-nucleus scattering is extended to nucleus-nucleus scattering. New development of four-body CDCC is presented.     Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome Caused by a Schwannoma of the Posterior Tibial Nerve

    Schwannoma is the most common tumor of the peripheral nerve sheath. However, there have been few reports on schwannoma of the posterior tibial nerve causing tarsal tunnel syndrome. We report on a 60-year-old man with tarsal tunnel syndrome caused by a schwannoma of the posterior tibial nerve, which was first diagnosed as a ganglion cyst. After enucleation of this tumor, the patient was asymptomatic and had no related sequelae except for minor numbness in the plantar aspects of his digits. Although schwannoma of the posterior tibial nerve is rare, it should be considered even if a ganglion is clinically suspected

    Appropriate Amounts and Activity of the Wilms’ Tumor Suppressor Gene, wt1, Are Required for Normal Pronephros Development of Xenopus Embryos

    The Wilms’ tumor suppressor gene, wt1, encodes a zinc finger-containing transcription factor that binds to a GC-rich motif and regulates the transcription of target genes. wt1 was first identified as a tumor suppressor gene in Wilms’ tumor, a pediatric kidney tumor, and has been implicated in normal kidney development. The WT1 protein has transcriptional activation and repression domains and acts as a transcriptional activator or repressor, depending on the target gene and context. In Xenopus, an ortholog of wt1 has been isolated and shown to be expressed in the developing embryonic pronephros. To investigate the role of wt1 in pronephros development in Xenopus embryos, we mutated wt1 by CRISPR/Cas9 and found that the expression of pronephros marker genes was reduced. In reporter assays in which known WT1 binding sequences were placed upstream of the luciferase gene, WT1 activated transcription of the luciferase gene. The injection of wild-type or artificially altered transcriptional activity of wt1 mRNA disrupted the expression of pronephros marker genes in the embryos. These results suggest that the appropriate amounts and activity of WT1 protein are required for normal pronephros development in Xenopus embryos

    Effectiveness of surgery and hyperbaric oxygen for antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw: A subgroup analysis by disease stage

    Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ) is an adverse event induced by antiresorptive agents (ARAs). The purpose of this study was to evaluate variables, mainly surgery and hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, associated with treatment outcomes in patients with a diagnosis of ARONJ at a single center. We enrolled consecutive patients who presented to our hospital for the management of stage 2 or 3 ARONJ between January 2003 and December 2019. The relationship between potentially predictive factors and outcome variables was examined using statistical analyses, along with a subgroup analysis based on disease stage. Of 252 patients included in this study, 206 had stage 2 ARONJ and 46 had stage 3 ARONJ. There were 119 patients with osteoporosis and 133 with malignant disease. In total, 139 patients were healed, and the healing rate of patients with stage 3 ARONJ was lower than that of patients with stage 2 ARONJ. With regard to the combination of surgery and HBO therapy, most patients underwent HBO before and after surgery. In the univariable analysis, surgery showed a therapeutic effect in both stage 2 and 3 ARONJ, whereas HBO showed a therapeutic effect in stage 2 ARONJ. In the multivariable analysis for stage 2 ARONJ, extensive surgery showed a stronger association with healing than conservative surgery, whereas ≥46 sessions of HBO therapy was less associated with healing than was non-HBO therapy. Our findings suggest that extensive surgery is highly effective against ARONJ regardless of disease stage if there is a sequestrum separation and systemic tolerance, whereas HBO therapy before and after surgical approach can be effective. Further studies are needed to identify treatment strategies for patients with treatment-refractory ARONJ who may be forced to undergo long-term HBO therapy with the expectation of sequestrum separation

    Interface and oxide trap states of SiO2/GaN metal–oxide–semiconductor capacitors and their effects on electrical properties evaluated by deep level transient spectroscopy

    The relationship between the electrical properties and the carrier trap properties of the SiO2/GaN metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) capacitors was investigated using electrical measurements and deep level transient spectroscopy (DLTS). The capacitance–voltage (C–V) measurement showed that the frequency dispersion of the C–V curves became smaller after an 800 °C annealing in O2 ambient. DLTS revealed that before the annealing, the interface trap states, in a broad energy range above the midgap of GaN, were detected with the higher interface state density at around 0.3 and 0.9 eV below the conduction band minimum (Ec) of GaN. Moreover, the oxide trap states were formed at around 0.1 eV below the Ec of GaN, plausibly indicating a slow electron trap with a tunneling process.     Thread shape, cortical bone thickness, and magnitude and distribution of stress caused by the loading of orthodontic miniscrews : finite element analysis

    Cortical bone thickness is assumed to be a major factor regulating miniscrew stability. We investigated stress distribution in two miniscrews with different thread shapes (type A and B) and in cortical bone of three different thicknesses using three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) models. More specifically, 3D FE models of two different miniscrews were created and placed obliquely or vertically into a cylindrical bone model representing different cortical bone thicknesses. When force was applied to the miniscrew, the stress distribution on the screw surface and in the peri-implant bone was assessed using FE methodology. Miniscrew safety was evaluated using a modified Soderberg safety factor. Screw head displacement increased with a decrease in cortical bone thickness, irrespective of screw type. The smallest minimum principal stresses on the screw surfaces remained constant in type A miniscrews on changes in cortical bone thickness. Minimum principal stresses also appeared on the cortical bone surface. Lower absolute values of minimum principal stresses were seen in type A miniscrews when placed vertically and with upward traction in obliquely placed type B miniscrews. Both miniscrews had acceptable safety factor values. Taken together, orthodontists should select and use the suitable miniscrew for each patient in consideration of bone properties
