Gauge Independence and Chiral Symmetry Breaking in a Strong Magnetic Field
The gauge independence of the dynamical fermion mass generated through chiral
symmetry breaking in QED in a strong, constant external magnetic field is
critically examined. We present a (first, to the best of our knowledge)
consistent truncation of the Schwinger-Dyson equations in the lowest Landau
level approximation. We demonstrate that the dynamical fermion mass, obtained
as the solution of the truncated Schwinger-Dyson equations evaluated on the
fermion mass shell, is manifestly gauge independent.Comment: 10 pages, 1 eps figure, version to appear in Annals of Physic
Simulation of instability at transition energy with a new impedance model for CERN PS
Instabilities driven by the transverse impedance are proven to be one of the limitations for the high intensity reach of the CERN PS. Since several years, fast single bunch vertical instability at transition energy has been observed with the high intensity bunch serving the neutron Time-of-Flight facility (n-ToF). In order to better understand the instability mechanism, a dedicated measurement campaign took place. The results were compared with macro-particle simulations with PyHEADTAIL based on the new impedance model developed for the PS. Instability threshold and growth rate for different longitudinal emittances and beam intensities were studied
Tunable near- to mid-infrared pump terahertz probe spectroscopy in reflection geometry
Strong-field mid-infrared pump--terahertz (THz) probe spectroscopy has been
proven as a powerful tool for light control of different orders in strongly
correlated materials. We report the construction of an ultrafast broadband
infrared pump--THz probe system in reflection geometry. A two-output optical
parametric amplifier is used for generating mid-infrared pulses with GaSe as
the nonlinear crystal. The setup is capable of pumping bulk materials at
wavelengths ranging from 1.2 m to 15 m and beyond, and detecting the
subtle, transient photoinduced changes in the reflected electric field of the
THz probe at different temperatures. As a demonstration, we present 15 m
pump--THz probe measurements of a bulk EuSbTe single crystal. A
transient change in the reflected THz electric field can be clearly resolved.
The widely tuned pumping energy could be used in mode-selective excitation
experiments and applied to many strongly correlated electron systems.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Lower dimensional volumes and the Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem for Manifolds with Boundary
In this paper, we define lower dimensional volumes of spin manifolds with
boundary. We compute the lower dimensional volume for
5-dimensional and 6-dimensional spin manifolds with boundary and we also get
the Kastler-Kalau-Walze type theorem in this case
