Periodicity and Invertibility of Lattice Gas Cellular Automata

    Get PDF
A cellular automaton is a type of mathematical system that models the behavior of a set of cells with discrete values in progressing time steps. The often complicated behaviors of cellular automata are studied in computer science, mathematics, biology, and other science related fields. Lattice gas cellular automata are used to simulate the movements of particles. This thesis aims to discuss the properties of lattice gas models, including periodicity and invertibility, and to examine their accuracy in reflecting the physics of particles in real life. Analysis of elementary cellular automata is presented to introduce the concept of cellular automata and construct foundations for the analysis of properties of lattice gas

Twitter Application to Chinese Language Learning: Lessons and Suggestions

    Get PDF
Making a connection between the requirement of 140 characters and the need of intermediate-low learners of Chinese as a second language (CSL) to produce output in a less challenging environment, this action research engaged the college CSL students in tweeting practices. Based on the descriptive statistics of the students’ tweeting behavior and the students’ responses to the survey administered at the end of the semester, this article reflects and summarizes the lessons learned. The authors propose that structural designs in the form of projects or tasks should still be considered for social networking applications such as Twitter to be used as an educational tool. How to make better use of the social-networking aspect of Twitter and build a community of CSL learners and practitioners is also discussed

The manufacturing industry is the foundation for building and strengthening a country. Micro-manufacturing enterprises are the basis for the development of manufacturing, and products are the core and life of enterprises. Based on micro data from industrial enterprises, this study conducts a statistical measurement on the indicators of high-quality product development. Taking the Baidu Index as the proxy variable for attention allocation, the influence of attention allocation on high-quality development of products is systematically examined both theoretically and empirically; Additionally, it seeks to ascertain whether factor stock adjustment has a mediating effect. The findings are as follows: 1. Within the full sample, 63.63% of the attention allocation process to promote high-quality development of products is achieved by optimizing the factor stock adjustment channels. 2. Capital stock and labor stock adjustment have a partial mediating effect on the high-quality development of products in capital-intensive industries, while labor stock adjustment has a partial mediating effect on labor-intensive industries. 3. The regional results show that the adjustment of capital and labor stock has a partial mediating effect in the eastern region. This conclusion provides a theoretical basis for realizing the high-quality development of China’s manufacturing industry

Artemesia annua extract prevents glyoxal-induced cell injury in retinal microvascular endothelial cells during glaucoma

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Artemesia annua extract on glyoxal-induced injury in retinal microvascular endothelial cells (HRECs).Methods: HRECs were cultured in a medium containing 500 ÎĽM glyoxal or glyoxal plus 50ÎĽM Artemesia annua extract, or in the medium alone for 24 h. Apoptosis was analysed by flow cytometry using annexin V and propidium iodide staining. Changes in mitochondrial membrane potential were determined by JC-1 staining. Results: When HRECs were cultured in a medium of 500 ÎĽM glyoxal, a significant (p < 0.05) decrease in caspase-3 expression was observed. However, treatment of HRECs with Artemesia annua extract (50 ÎĽM) inhibited the glyoxal-mediated decrease in caspase-3 expression. The extract also inhibited caspase-3 proteolysis, as was evident from the reduction in the level of cleaved caspase-3. Upregulation of ROS production by glyoxal in HRECs was inhibited by treatment with the extract. The viability of HRECs was significantly decreased by glyoxal (p < 0.05), but the decrease in viability was significantly reversed by Artemesia annua extract (p < 0.05). The extract also reduced gyloxal-induced apoptosis in HRECs from 17.3 to 2.6 % (p < 0.001). Results from JC-1 staining showed significantly (p < 0.001) higher level of green fluorescence in HRECs cultured with glyoxal. However, the glyoxal-induced increase in green fluorescence level was significantly (p < 0.01) reduced on exposure to Artemesia annua extract. Conclusion: Artemesia annua extract prevents oxidative damage to HRECs via inhibition of ROS production, up-regulation of caspase-3 expression and suppression of caspase-3 proteolysis. Therefore, Artemesia annua can potentially be used for the development of a new drug for the prevention of retinal injury in glaucoma. Keywords: Artemesia annua, Retinal injury, Glaucoma, Green fluorescence, cleaved caspase-3, ROS productio

Real-time Data Flow Control for CBM-TOF Super Module Quality Evaluation

Super module assembled with MRPC detectors is the component unit of TOF (Time of Flight) system for the Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment. Quality of super modules needs to be evaluated before it is applied in CBM-TOF. Time signals exported from super module are digitalized at TDC (Time to Digital Converter) station. Data rate is up to 6 Gbps at each TDC station, which brings a tremendous pressure for data transmission in real time. In this paper, a real-time data flow control method is designed. In this control method, data flow is divided into 3 types: scientific data flow, status data flow and control data flow. In scientific data flow, data of each TDC station is divided into 4 sub-flows, and then is read out by a parallel and hierarchical network, which consists of multiple readout mother boards and daughter boards groups. In status data flow, status data is aggregated into a specific readout mother board. Then it is uploaded to DAQ via readout daughter board. In control data flow, control data is downloaded to all circuit modules in the opposite direction of status data flow. Preliminary test result indicated data of STS was correctly transmitted to DAQ with no error and three type data flows were control orderly in real time. This data flow control method can meet the quality evaluation requirement of supper module in CBM-TOF
