    Understanding and Predicting Delay in Reciprocal Relations

    Reciprocity in directed networks points to user's willingness to return favors in building mutual interactions. High reciprocity has been widely observed in many directed social media networks such as following relations in Twitter and Tumblr. Therefore, reciprocal relations between users are often regarded as a basic mechanism to create stable social ties and play a crucial role in the formation and evolution of networks. Each reciprocity relation is formed by two parasocial links in a back-and-forth manner with a time delay. Hence, understanding the delay can help us gain better insights into the underlying mechanisms of network dynamics. Meanwhile, the accurate prediction of delay has practical implications in advancing a variety of real-world applications such as friend recommendation and marketing campaign. For example, by knowing when will users follow back, service providers can focus on the users with a potential long reciprocal delay for effective targeted marketing. This paper presents the initial investigation of the time delay in reciprocal relations. Our study is based on a large-scale directed network from Tumblr that consists of 62.8 million users and 3.1 billion user following relations with a timespan of multiple years (from 31 Oct 2007 to 24 Jul 2013). We reveal a number of interesting patterns about the delay that motivate the development of a principled learning model to predict the delay in reciprocal relations.     Raman piezospectroscopic evaluation of intergrowth ferroelectric polycrystalline ceramic in biaxial bending configuration

    The piezospectroscopic (PS) effect was studied in an intergrowth bismuth layer-structure ferroelectricceramicBi₅TiNbWO₁₅ according to a micro-Raman spectroscopic evaluation. By using a ball-on-ring flexure configuration, a biaxial stress was generated in a Bi₅TiNbWO₁₅ plate-like specimen and in situ collected Raman spectra were acquired and analyzed under several loading conditions. As the observed spectral line contained signals arising from the whole illuminated in-depth region, the laser probe information was deconvoluted (by means of an in-depth probe response function obtained according to the defocusing method) in order to deduce biaxial PS coefficients for the three Raman bands of Bi₅TiNbWO₁₅ located at 763, 857, and 886 cm−1, respectively. The biaxial PS coefficients of these bands were derived to be −1.74±0.16, −2.51±0.16, and −2.64±0.31 cm⁻¹/GPa, respectively, and should be referred to the c axis of the Bi5TiNbWO15 crystal

    Mechanical rolling formation of interpenetrated lithium metal/lithium tin alloy foil for ultrahigh-rate battery anode

    To achieve good rate capability of lithium metal anodes for high-energy-density batteries, one fundamental challenge is the slow lithium diffusion at the interface. Here we report an interpenetrated, three-dimensional lithium metal/lithium tin alloy nanocomposite foil realized by a simple calendering and folding process of lithium and tin foils, and spontaneous alloying reactions. The strong affinity between the metallic lithium and lithium tin alloy as mixed electronic and ionic conducting networks, and their abundant interfaces enable ultrafast charger diffusion across the entire electrode. We demonstrate that a lithium/lithium tin alloy foil electrode sustains stable lithium stripping/plating under 30mAcm(-2) and 5mAhcm(-2) with a very low overpotential of 20mV for 200 cycles in a commercial carbonate electrolyte. Cycled under 6C (6.6mAcm(-2)), a 1.0mAhcm(-2) LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 electrode maintains a substantial 74% of its capacity by pairing with such anode

    Cogging Torque Reduction of Interior Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motors by Finite-Element Method

    The cogging torque of a permanent-magnet motor is an oscillatory torque that always induces vibration, acoustic noise, possible resonance and speed ripples, and its minimization is a major concern for electric motor designers. This paper presents an effective approach for the cogging torque reduction of interior permanent-magnet motors by modifying the magnet span angle of the rotor and the shoe depth and shoe ramp of the stator. The cogging torque is calculated by employing a commercial finite-element analysis software Ansoft/Maxwell. The results show that the peak value of the cogging torque for the modified design decreases 50% in comparison with that of the original design
