Optimization of the Feldspar Usage in High Temperature Drilling Fluid
This report basically discusses the overall element of the project which is entitled,
Optimization of the Feldspar Usage in High Temperature Drilling Fluid. This research
will be a stepping stone for future research of the new potential drilling fluid additives
which is obtained from abundant local resources. The objectives of the project are to
discover the properties and characteristics of quartzo-feldspathic rock, to discover the
effect of feldspar addition on the drilling fluid properties and to determine the effect of
formulated drilling fluid in high temperature and high pressure well condition. In order
to correlate cost and effectiveness of the additive, the natural sources of additive
(feldspar) which found abundant in Malaysia is determined its potential. In drilling
process, drilling fluid could alter in situ formation. In the operation main problem with
drilling fluids and additives are concerned on the effect of the drilling fluid log
interpretation and on cuttings analysis. Minimizing the environmental impact of a
drilling operation as well as safety considerations both directly affect the choice of
drilling fluid additives and drilling fluid systems. The methodology of the project is
kept with relevancy of current technology. The rock properties identification are using
SEM and XRD. Meanwhile, the drilling fluid properties are identified using viscometer,
HPHT viscometer and HPHT filter press. The project met its objective, and as a result,
feldspar could be used as a loss circulation material additive as it shows a good result in
filtration test
Fuguai Mapping: The Useful Method For Problem Solving
Fuguai in Japanese word also called abnormality. The abnormality is unneeded thing which located at the wrong places or situations. In most conditions, the abnormality affected physical, functional and safety problems especially for machines. This paper discusses the application of Fuguai Mapping in order to identify the abnormality at grinding machine as a preventive action to sustain the machine condition. Through the study, it shows that many abnormalities were found. As a result, most of the abnormalities at machine were reduced and had improved the machine efficiency

Autonomous Maintenance Program For Job Base In Technical University
This paper discusses the implementation of Autonomous Maintenance (AM) program for job base in order to sustain the machine efficiency in Technical University (TU). Grinding machine was selected for case study. In TU, all engineering students especially will use grinding machine for producing very fine finishes or making very light cuts, using an abrasive wheel as the cutting device. As compared with other machining processes, grinding is a costly operation that should be utilised under optimal conditions. The result shows that the AM program had improved responsibility and alertness of the machine users on the machine condition as the standard. In addition, it reduced the total of the problems occurred on the machine and indirectly reduced the cost of breakdown maintenance
Compressed Natural Gas Direct Injection: Comparison Between Homogeneous and Stratified Combustion
Due to abundance of natural gas, the use of natural gas for automotive use, particularly for internal combustion engine (ICE), is more practical and cheaper than their future successors. Even though natural gas is a cleaner fuel than other fossil fuels and has a higher octane number and can lead to higher thermal efficiency, its low carbon number makes it less attractive as compared to gasoline and diesel. Based on its potential, an engine referred to as compressed natural gas direct injection engine (CNGDI) was designed, developed and tested to operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) as monofuel directly and centrally injected into the engine. Computational and experimental works have been performed to investigate the viability of the design. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and experimental works with homogenous combustion showed that the results were in good agreement. From experimental works, it is found that combustion characteristics could be improved by using a stratified charge piston configuration with some drawback on performance. In terms of exhaust emissions, stratified configuration causes slight increase in the emission of CO, CO2 and NOx, which highlight a need for further study on this issue
A Study of Success Factors in Green Supply Chain Management in Manufacturing Industries in Malaysia
Environmental issues have become a notably prevalent concern for governments, societies and business organizations. With environmental problems such as global warming, ozone depletion, solid waste and air pollution,
business organizations are considered to be the source of most of the environmental problems. In Malaysia, manufacturing industry is one of the main contributors for the economic growth. Unfortunately, it has been caused for environmental deterioration. (DOE, 2013). In order to investigate further understand GSCM among manufacturers in Malaysia, This study has carry out survey to 241 of 522 certified companies MSISO 14001 in Malaysia is 522 companies. One of the results are consistent with the study of Rao (2007) who found that there is a manufacturing company that cannot sell and distribute raw materials internally to other companies or external use as raw
material and subject to confidentiality policies. It is the raw material control gives a competitive edge in the market,
especially in industrie
The Level Of Achievement Of Lean Manufacturing Implementation Status Before And After The Development Of KPI's At An Aerospace Manufacturing Company
This research study focuses on the issue of the level of achievement of Lean Manufacturing Implementation status before and after the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at an aerospace manufacturing company. The KPIs are targeted to provide this company with a good performance measurement tools in supporting the success of their Lean manufacturing journey. The assessment will be based on Red Amber Green (RAG) status. KPIs development in this research can improve of productivity and efficiency in manufacturing engineering system
Effect of culture technique of Ganoderma australe mycelia on percentage removal of leachate organics / Wan Razarinah Wan Abdul Razak, Noor Zalina Mahmood and Noorlidah Abdullah
Leachate (liquid pollutant), which is highly contaminated with organic matter and toxic substances is a major problem that arised from landfill. Biological methods have proven to be effective to remove organic matters that are abundant in leachate. This study is intended to compare the used of free mycelia and immobilized mycelia of the white-rot fungi, Ganoderma australe for the removal of landfill leachate organics. The organics fraction of landfill leachate was measured by biological oxygen demand (BODâ‚…), and chemical oxygen demand (COD). The experiment revealed that free mycelia of G. australe showed capability in removing leachate BODâ‚… but not COD. However, the use of immobilized G. australe displayed the best result in the removal of BODâ‚… and COD leachate after 4 weeks of treatment in flasks with 93.09% and 17.84% percentage removal of BOD5 and COD, respectively. Therefore, G. australe can be considered potentially useful in the treatment of landfill leachate as they can help in removing BOD and COD due to their biodegradative abilities
The Potential Of Oee Measure For Sustainable Environment In Palm Oil Mill: A Review
The purposes of this paper are to review and explore the potential of overall equipment effectiveness (also known as OEE) measures on environmental sustainability in palm oil mill operation. Literature review on OEE and current sustainable palm oil mill research, and semi-structured interview on relevant persons on the business nature have been conducted to achieve the determined objectives. The result is presented in a conceptual model to show the potential relationship between the three stated keywords. The model shows that OEE measure initially has positive influenced on environmental sustainability development in palm oil mill especially for reduction of greenhouse gasses emissions, utilisation of raw material, pollution control of soil, air, and water, and utilisation of natural resources. The findings also can be used to understand the effect of OEE measures on the realization of sustainable environment in the palm oil mill
Manufacturing Sustainability Via OEE Measures: A Conceptual Model
This paper proposes a conceptual model on the achieving of the manufacturing sustainability through an established performance measure so called Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) based on literature study. It examines the measures of overall equipment effectiveness that consist of contributing factors, availability, performance, and quality; and the sustainable manufacturing components including environmental conservation, social efficiency, and economic vitality. The measures of the OEE are required some modification to enhance the accomplishment of the sustainability in manufacturing. Besides, the measures are nevertheless possible to improve productivity through the identification and elimination of manufacturing big loses. It can be used as an initial reference for manufacturers to consider overall equipment effectiveness to advance the goal of manufacturing sustainability
