South Africa in Africa: Annotated Bibliography, 1994-2008
The annotated bibliography focuses on the post-Apartheid period
as an important and particular historical period for South Africa’s
continental relations. (A few entries pre-date this period but help to
contextualise the references provided in the annotated bibliography.)
The annotated bibliography is organised into seven sections: I. South
Africa, Africa and Global Relations; II. Conceptualising South Africa as
an Actor in Africa; III. Governance, Security, Peace Building; IV. Trade
and Corporate Expansion; V. Social Movements. VI. The Politics of Regionalism in Africa; VII. Gender and South Africa in Africa.
CODICE (the CODESRIA Documentation and Information Centre)
and researchers in the Democracy & Governance programme of the
HSRC compiled the annotated bibliography. The CODESRIA database
and other online databases have been used for the production of this
bibliography, including research outputs generated in the South Africa
in Africa research project. The entries are organised alphabetically in
the above seven themes. The selected documents are in English, with
a few French entries.
We hope that this bibliography will be useful and help to develop a
network of scholars and practitioners in this area of investigation
