Self-compensation in phosphorus-doped CdTe

We investigate the self-compensation mechanism in phosphorus-doped CdTe. The formation energies, charge transition levels, and defects states of several P-related point defects susceptible to cause self-compensation are addressed by first-principles calculations. Moreover, we assess the in uence of the spin-orbit coupling and supercell-size effects on the stability of AX centers donors, which are believed to be responsible for most of the self-compensation. We report an improved result for the lowest-energy configuration of the P interstitial (P$_\text{i}$) and find that the self-compensation mechanism is not due to the formation of AX centers. Under Te-rich growth conditions, (P$_\text{i}$) exhibits a formation energy lower than the substitutional acceptor (P$_\text{Te}$) when the Fermi level is near the valence band, acting as compensating donor. While, for Cd-rich growth conditions, our results suggest that p-type doping is limited by the formation of (P$_\text{Te}$-V$_\text{Te}$) complexes.Comment: 5 page

Youth-Led Anti-Corruption Movement in Post-Conflict Guatemala: ‘Weaving the Future’?

This article examines youth-led anti-corruption protests in Guatemala in 2015, which contributed to the resignation of the president and vice-president. It outlines three key factors that were part of the initial success of the #RenunciaYa social media campaign, and the subsequent struggle towards political and structural reforms. First, it can be regarded as part of a much longer history of rights-led civic engagement and protest. Second, while social media proved indispensable for mobilising civic action, it was insufficient to reach beyond urban-based youth activists. Third, the removal of the president and vice-president was possible not only because of public pressure generated by anti-corruption youth activists, but also because of the longer-term work of two Attorney Generals and the International Commission Against Impunity in highlighting the fight against corruption within the national political agenda. The New Strategy to The Legitimation of Informal Firms. : The Effects of The Signals and Biases on Decisions About Crowdfunding Digital Transformation

Competition between formal and informal companies has been increasingly studied. However, there is a lack of studies in the collaboration between formal and informal companies generated using crowdfunding platforms.  Based on the signaling theory and using the loans from 2019 of the Kiva crowdfunding platform. The drivers and enablers of the collaboration between formally registered firms (partners micro finances) and informal firms (unregistered firms - borrowers) in the context of the crowdfunding digital platform are studied. The results state a negative relationship between the lender's propensity to make loans and the informal firm's percentage borrowed. However, if the borrower receives a trustworthy partner (micro-finance), the borrower's negative impact decreases. Moreover, the lender's propensity to make loans lesser in projects of the tertiary sector. The study contributes to the entrepreneurship theory to understand the mechanism to legitimization the informal firm through collaboration with formal firms in the digital platforms

Coxiella burnetii: Living inside the host cell

Coxiella burnetii is an obligate intracellular pathogen, causal agent of Q fever. In this brief review, we describe how recent described mechanisms help our understanding of C. burnetii invasion and his survival in the host cell by the formation of a replicative niche: the Coxiella-containing vacuole.
