Untersuchungen ueber den Einfluss der Prozessbedingungen auf die metallurgischen Eigenschaften und die Standzeit beim Fraesen mit Ti(CN)-Basis-Hartmetallen (sogenannten Cermets) Abschlussbericht
The properties of cemet-alloys are decisively influenced by the raw materials and the production conditions, mainly during sintering operation. In comparison to a cermet-standard-grade modified cermet-alloys have been tested in milling operations which were produced using finer and more uniform materials and different sintering conditions. Three steel grades which were different in machining behaviour and in strength have been used for the tests. The fine-grained cermet-versions showed an excellent performance in milling of steels 42 Cr Mo 4 and Ck 67 and have been superior to the cermet-standard-grade or of equal rank. A comparison with coated carbide grades shows that under the given test conditions TiCN- and TiCN/Al_2O_3-coated carbide grades are better than the optimized cermet grades or of equal quality. The distinct superiority of the cermet-grades has been demonstrated only in finishing of steel MCL 3. For the given milling conditions (high cutting speeds, low feeds), the TiCN/Al_2O_3-coated carbide grade fails after a very short length of cut.
