The Effect of Structure Modification of Sodium Compounds on the SO2 and HCl Removal Efficiency from Fumes in the Conditions of Circulating Fluidised Bed
The article presents the effects of mechanical and thermal modification on the surface area of sodium bicarbonate and its ability to remove SO2 and HCl from exhaust fumes.
The mechanical modification consisted of grinding in an impact mill. The thermal modification consisted of heating in the temperature range from 373 K to 673 K. The applied modifications caused a change in the grain structure of sodium bicarbonate and parameters such as specific surface area and the pore size. The parameters were determined by low-pressure nitrogen adsorption (LPNA) and mercury porosimetry (MIP) methods. The largest development of the active surface, which was up to 6 m2 g–1 (LPNA), was achieved after crushing and heating in the temperature range of 423–523 K.
The efficiency of a simultaneous purification of fumes from SO2 i HCl on a continuous-combustion installation with a circular fluidised bed CFB was determined. The samples were fed into the installation in three different molar ratios 2Na/S (0.5; 1.0; 2.1) in a gas jet of 573 K. It was shown that the removal of SO2 and HCl took place simultaneously and mainly on the grain surface. The average efficiency of SO2 purification was between 17 % and 89 %, and it depended on the comminution degree and the amount of the sorbent. The efficiency of HCl removal was between 54 and 78 %.

The use of modified sodium sorbents to remove SO2 and HCl from power plants and CHP plants in light of the energy policy of the European Union
W artykule przedstawiono efekty zastosowania modyfikowanego związku sodowego
w postaci wodorowęglanu sodu w jednoczesnym oczyszczaniu gazów spalinowych z tlenku siarki
(IV) (SO2) i chlorowodoru (HCl) w małych obiektach energetycznego spalania, tj. elektrowniach
i elektrociepłowniach, wykorzystujących jako paliwo węgiel kamienny. Etap wstępny obejmował
badania sposobu rozdrobnienia i obróbki termicznej na teksturę ziaren. Rozdrabnianie sorbentu
separatora pneumatycznego (2000 obr/min, 3000 obr/min, 5000 obr/min). W następnym
etapie sorbenty wygrzewano w temperaturze 250oC. Zastosowany sposób preparatyki spowodował
wzrost pojemności sorpcyjnej, powierzchni właściwej i rozkładu porów w związkach sodowych,
które wyznaczono metodą niskociśnieniowej adsorpcji gazowej (N2, 77K) i porozymetrii rtęciowej
(Hg). Największe rozwinięcie powierzchni czynnej, z 0,09 m2/g do 6,9 m2/g (BET) uzyskano dla
najdrobniejszych ziaren wynoszących średnio 6,7 µm (d3,2).
Zdolności tak zmodyfikowanych związków sodowych w jednoczesnym usuwaniu SO2 i HCl okre-
ślono na ciągłej instalacji z cyrkulacyjną warstwą fluidalną CWF 0,1MW. Stosując suchą technologię
oczyszczania spalin, wprowadzano je do instalacji w kilku stosunkach molowych 2 Na/S
w strumień gazu o temperaturze 300oC. Efekty usuwania tlenku siarki (IV) z gazów wylotowych
n do 600 mg SO2/m3
n przy wykorzystaniu najdrobniejszego ziarna
w stosunku molowym 2 Na/S=2,1. Średnia efektywność usuwania chlorowodoru była wysoka,
mieszcząc się w zakresie 91–96%. Uzyskano obniżenie stężenia z 97 mg HCl/m3
n (przed procesem
oczyszczania) do 4 mg HCl/m3
projektem Dyrektywy MCP. Uzyskany poziom chlorowodoru zestawiono z będącym w fazie przygotowań
Draftem 1 LCP BREF.This article presents the effects of the use of a modified sodium compound in the form of sodium bicarbonate
in the simultaneous purification of the exhaust fumes from sulphur (IV) oxide (SO2) and chloride
(HCl) in power plants and CHP plants fueled by coal. The initial stage included the examination of the
effect of mechanical and thermal modification on the grain texture. The material was activated in a fluidized
bed opposed jet mill at three different speeds of the separator (2000 r/min, 3000 r/min, 5000 r/min) and
heated at 250oC. Mechanical and thermal modification resulted in the increase of the sorption capacity, the
surface area and the pore distribution in the sodium compounds, which was determined by the use of the
low-pressure gas adsorption (N2, 77K) and mercury porosimetry (Hg). The biggest development of the
active area, from 0,09 m2/g to 6,9 m2/g (BET), was achieved in the most finely ground grains.
The ability of sodium compounds modified in such a manner to simultaneously remove SO2 and HCl
was determined on a fluidized bed test rig CWF 0,1MW. Using the dry technology of fume purification they
were fed into the rig in three different molar ratios 2 Na/S into a jet of gas at 300oC. The effects of removing
the sulpur (IV) oxide from the fumes were closely related to the grain size and the amount of the reagent.
The average purification efficiency was from 17% to 89% decreasing the pollutant concentration from
about 2800 mg SO2/m3
n to 600 mg SO2/m3
n with the use of the smallest grain in the molar ratio 2 Na/S
= 2,1. The average efficiency in removing hydrogen chloride was high and ranged from 91% to 96%. The
obtained decrease in the concentration was from 97 mg HCl/ m3
n (before the purification process) to 4 mg
HCl/m3
n. The efficiency in purification from sulphur (IV) oxide was compared with the accepted emission
levels regulated by the IED and LCP Directives currently in force, as well as the MCP draft Directive. The
obtained level of hydrogen chloride was compared with the 1 LCP BREF Draft, which is currently in the
preparation phase

Assessment of the possibilities of passive mercury removal in dry flue gas cleaning with sodium reagents
W artykule przedstawiono efekty wykorzystania pasywnej metody oczyszczania spalin ze związków rtęci emitowanych w procesie spalania. Badania przeprowadzono w instalacji modelowej z cyrkulacyjną warstwą fluidalną, wykorzystując węgiel kamienny jako surowiec. Podczas spalania zastosowano suchą metodę usunięcia kwaśnych zanieczyszczeń gazowych przy użyciu 9 sorbentów sodowych po modyfikacjach. Sorbenty podawano do instalacji w dwóch stosunkach molowych (sodu zawartego w sorbencie do siarki zawartej w paliwie), w strumień gazu o temperaturze 573 K. Na podstawie bilansu zawartości rtęci w stałych substratach procesu spalania (paliwie i sorbencie) oraz w stałych produktach (popiele lotnym i dennym), określono poziom emisji rtęci do atmosfery. Każdorazowo podaniu większej ilości sorbentu do instalacji towarzyszyło większe obniżenie poziomu emisji rtęci do atmosfery. Poziomy stężenia rtęci w gazach podczas oczyszczania spalin porównano z dopuszczalnymi poziomami emisji Hg zawartymi w Konkluzjach BAT, odnoszącymi się do dużych obiektów energetycznego spalania. W yniki badań wskazują, że w odniesieniu do wszystkich instalacji istniejących oraz nowych o mocy cieplnej poniżej 300 MW zadowalające efekty przyniosłoby zastosowanie modyfikowanych mechanicznie sorbentów na bazie sody oczyszczonej w stężeniu molowym 2 Na/S = 2,1.This article presents the effects of the application of the passive method of flue gas purification from mercury compounds emitted during combustion. The research was carried out on a fluidized bed installation using coal. The dry method of acid gas pollutants reduction was applied during the combustion with the use of 9 modified sodium sorbents. They were fed into a gas jet of 573 K in two molar ratios (sodium contained in the sorbent to the sulphur contained in the fuel). The mercury emission level into the atmosphere was determined based on the mercury content in the solid substrates of the combustion process (in the fuel and the sorbent) and the solid products (fly ash and bottom waste). The combustion process was accompanied by mercury emission 14.7 μgHg/m3. During the removal of acid pollutants from fumes, a decrease in mercury concentration was achieved. The degree of the mercury reduction depended on the type the sorbent used, the manner of modification and the molar ratio in which they were fed into the installation (2 Na/S = 0.5; 2.1). Each time, the more the sorbent was fed into the installation, the bigger the reduction of the mercury emission level. Among the unmodified sorbents, the lowest emission level was achieved for the raw bicarbonate – 3.7 μgHg/m3. For baking soda it was 9.7 μgHg/m3. The application of mechanically modified compounds based on baking soda resulted in the reduction of the Hg emission in fumes up to 2.5–2.6 μgHg/m3. The determined mercury concentration levels in the gases during the purification of the fumes were compared with the accepted Hg emissions contained in the BAT conclusions for large combustion plants. As for all of the existing and newly built plants with a heat capacity below 300 MW, satisfactory effects would be achieved by the use of mechanically modified sorbents in the molar concentration of 2 Na/S = 2.

Use of phosphogypsum in road construction
The paper presents practical utilisation in the construction of a parking lot of compositions based on waste (phosphogypsum) from the wet process of orthophosphoric acid manufacture. The results of strength tests performed after half a year and after one and a half year of parking lot operation confirmed the feasibility, established earlier in laboratory tests, of utilising phosphogypsum mixes with fly ash and stabilising binder
Flue Gas Desulfurization by Mechanically and Thermally Activated Sodium Bicarbonate
This paper presents the results of study on structural parameters (particle size, surface area, pore volume) and the sorption ability of mechanically and thermally activated sodium bicarbonate. The sorption ability of the modified sorbent was evaluated by: partial and overall SO2 removal efficiency, conversion rate, normalized stoichiometric ratio (NSR). Sodium bicarbonate was mechanically activated by various grinding techniques, using three types of mills: fluid bed opposed jet mill, fine impact mill and electromagnetic mill, differing in grinding technology. Grounded sorbent was thermally activated, what caused a signifi cant development of surface area. During the studiem of SO2 sorption, a model gas with a temperature of 300°C, of composition: sulfur dioxide at a concentrationof 6292 mg/mn3 oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen as a carrier gas, was used. The Best development of surface area and the highest SO2 removal efficiency was obtained for the sorbent treated by electromagnetic grinding, with simultaneous high conversion rate

Granulation of sodium silicates by pressing method
W artykule opisano wstępne wyniki badań granulacji krzemianów sodu metodą prasowania. Prowadzone badania miały na celu sprawdzenie możliwości uzyskania z pylistych surowców granulatów o określonym rozkładzie ziarnowym. W badaniach laboratoryjnych stosowano pyliste krzemiany sodu o module 2,0-3,3 SiO2 mol/ Na2O mol. Otrzymane wyniki umożliwiają dobór urządzeń przemysłowych do granulacji dwukrzemianów sodu jako głównego produktu, z jednoczesną możliwością otrzymania granulowanych krzemianów o innych module. The preliminary results of studies of sodium silicate granulation by pressing method was described. The studies was conducted to test the possibility of obtaining the powdery raw material granules with a specific particle size distribution. In laboratory studies powdered sodium silicates with module of 2 up to 3.3 SiO2 moles/Na2O moles were used. They were investigated in the AWPMA's matrix press. The studies determined the impact of compaction pressure on the densification degree and the optimal compression pressure of tested silicates was determined. The products of larger grains and higher bulk densities were obtained. The results allow the selection of industrial equipment for granulation of sodium disilicates as the main product and the possibility of obtaining granulated silicates of other module at the same time
