What Proportion of Patients Meet the Criteria for Uncomplicated Sepsis in an Irish Emergency Department?
Emergency medicine plays a central role in the early recognition of patients presenting to hospital with sepsis. However, the epidemiology of sepsis in the Irish Emergency Department (ED) setting has not been described. The primary aim of this study was to determine the proportion of adult ED patients who meet the current criteria for uncomplicated sepsis. This cross-sectional study was performed in the ED of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. The clinical records of all patients presenting to the ED over a four-week period were retrospectively screened to determine if they met the current Health Service Executive (HSE) criteria for uncomplicated sepsis. Overall, 3,585 adult patients attended the ED during the study period, with 152 patients meeting the criteria for uncomplicated sepsis. The proportion of ED patients who met the criteria for uncomplicated sepsis was 4.24% (95% CI 3.57-4.91%)

Anomalous Crossing Frequency in Odd Proton Nuclei
A generic explanation for the recently observed anomalous crossing
frequencies in odd proton rare earth nuclei is given. As an example, the proton
band in Ta is discussed in detail by using the
angular momentum projection theory. It is shown that the quadrupole pairing
interaction is decisive in delaying the crossing point and the changes in
crossing frequency along the isotope chain are due to the different neutron
shell fillings
Near-threshold Lambda(1520) production by the gamma p -> K+Lambda(1520) reaction at forward K+ angles
Differential cross sections and photon-beam asymmetries for the gamma p -> K+
Lambda(1520) reaction have been measured with linearly polarized photon beams
at energies from the threshold to 2.4 GeV at 0.6<cos(theta)<1. A new bump
structure was found at W=2.11 GeV in the cross sections. The bump is not well
reproduced by theoretical calculations introducing a nucleon resonance with
J<=3/2. This result suggests that the bump might be produced by a nucleon
resonance possibly with J>=5/2 or by a new reaction process, for example an
interference effect with the phi photoproduction having a similar bump

Measurement of the Reaction at Backward Angles
Cross sections for the have been measured at
backward angles using linearly polarized photons in the range 1.50 to 2.37 GeV.
In addition, the beam asymmetry for this reaction has been measured for the
first time at backward angles. The was detected at forward angles in
the LEPS spectrometer via its decay to and the K^+ was inferred using
the technique of missing mass. These measurements, corresponding to kaons at
far backward angles in the center-of-mass frame, complement similar CLAS data
at other angles. Comparison with theoretical models shows that the reactions in
these kinematics provide further opportunities to investigate the reaction
