Oral Health Care Access in New Hampshire
In this brief, authors Eleanor M. Jaffee, Joan Widmer, and Lisa I. Speropolous provide an overview of the current state of oral health care in New Hampshire. They report that although New Hampshire is rated above the national average on most measures of pediatric oral health, performance varies substantially by county and by region. Access to adequate oral health care for both children and adults is particularly challenging for low-income families in the sparsely populated northern region of the state. Programs that address oral health care access issues by bringing services to those with the greatest need, such as school-based dental sealant programs and mobile dental care units, are among current efforts to improve oral health across the state
Molecular diversity of the Metarhizium anisopliae lineage in an agricultural field
Entomopathogenic fungal isolates identified by morphology as Metarhizium anisopliae may belong to different species when identified by molecular characters. We isolated Metarhizium spp. from an experimental agricultural field under both conventional and organic farming regimes using Tenebrio molitor as bait insect to assess the molecular diversity within the soil. Isolates were analyzed using DNA sequencing and applying SSR markers. Within the former M. anisopliae lineage, we found M. brunneum (86.3%), M. robertsii (11.3%) and M. majus (3.4%) in the soil samples. Several genotypes of each species were identified based on SSR markers. Differences in abundance of the species and their genotypes suggest different adaptations to the soil environment of the agricultural field. Postoperative Wundinfektionen: Essenzielles für Internisten
Zusammenfassung: Chirurgische Wundinfektionen gehören zu den häufigsten nosokomialen Infektionen auf chirurgischen Stationen. Risikofaktoren für eine postoperative Wundinfektion sind vor allem Grundleiden des Patienten, aber auch vermeidbare Risikofaktoren im Krankenhaus. Dazu gehören z.B. eine ungenügende Antibiotikaprophylaxe, die fehlende Vorbereitung der Patienten durch Sistieren des Rauchens und Gewichtsabnahme und vor allem bei Implantatoperationen eine fehlende Dekolonisation von Staphylococcus-aureus-Trägern. Eine gut organisierte Surveillance postoperativer Wundinfektionen und ein konstruktives Feedback an die Operierenden führte in allen bisherigen Studien zu einer 30%igen Reduktion dieser infektiösen Komplikation. Heliothis dispersal and migration
A few of the many species of Heliothis (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae) are important crop pests in the Old and New Worlds. Among these, H.armigera, H.zea, H.virescens and H.punctigera are the best known. The former is a particularly destructive species of a wide range of crops cultivated in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, including several staple foods and important peasant farmer cash crops. As new cultivation techniques are introduced and more extensive areas of crops are grown, often on larger irrigation and Government development schemes, it appears that this pest is becoming increasingly important. There is a strong suspicion that H.armigera populations move locally between crops grown in sequence or intercropped and that probably more extensive migratory movement occurs, as has been demonstrated in the closely related species H. zea in North America. This has considerable implications for effective control of the pest on the crops of some of the least priviledged farmers of the Developing World and in some of the poorest countries. There are recorded instances of resistance to pesticides in the species. Clearly large scale movements could have an effect on dissemination of such resistance and affect the level of control exerted by local parasite and predator populations and hence the necessity for rapid control action to combat rapid population increases of the pest on both staple food and cash crops. The ability to forecast or warn of such incidents would assist in effective timing of control operations and maximise efficiency of any insecticidal input required. This bibliography consolidates much of the scattered literature on the migratory behaviour of Heliothis spp. and will help to identify gaps in the existing knowledge of this aspect of the ecology of the genus. It will hopefully assist in focussing attention on the necessity for work on H.armigera, which is of such great importance in Developing Countries. Work on migratory movement could lead to effective action both regionally and internationally to reduce possibilities of migration of damaging numbers of moths. It will certainly assist in increasing knowledge on the bionomics of one of the most damaging agricultural pest species in the Old World and be of benefit to some of the least advantaged farmers of the tropics

What is the probability for a number field of composite degree to have a
nontrivial subfield? As the reader might expect the answer heavily depends on
the interpretation of probability. We show that if the fields are enumerated by
the smallest height of their generators the probability is zero, at least if

Impfungen gegen Pneumokokken und Influenza: Wie groß ist die Evidenz?
Zusammenfassung: Durch Pneumokokken verursachte Infektionen und die Influenza können bei Kindern und älteren Personen sowie bei chronisch Kranken und Immunosupprimierten zu schweren, komplizierten Verläufen führen. Bei der alternden Bevölkerung in westlichen Ländern sind sie wichtige Ursachen für erhöhte Morbidität und Letalität. Weltweit unterstreicht die Antibiotikaresistenzentwicklung die Notwendigkeit der effektiven Impfung. Der 23-valente Polysaccharidimpfstoff gegen Pneumokokken wird kontrovers diskutiert. Neue Metaanalysen zeigten keine/wenig Wirksamkeit der Impfung in Bezug auf invasive Pneumokokkenerkrankungen oder Gesamtletalität. Jedoch dokumentierte eine neue Studie bei Pflegeheimbewohnern eine signifikante Reduktion von Pneumonie und Tod durch Pneumokokkenerkrankungen nach Impfungen. Der 7-valente Konjugatimpfstoff ist bei Kindern und bei Immunosupprimierten deutlich immunogener und effizienter und ist im schweizerischen Impfplan für Kinder integriert. In Deutschland wurde er bereits durch den 13-valenten Konjugatimpfstoff ersetzt. Influenzaimpfungen sind gut immunogen. Dies wird durch Adjuvanzien bei einer älteren Bevölkerung erhöht. Aufgrund der pandemischen Influenza H1N1 2009 wurden die Impfempfehlungen und die Zusammensetzung der Impfstoffe durch die WHO für den Herbst/Winter 2010/2011 entsprechend angepasst.
