Contribution à l'étude des réactions à l'état solide entre la chaux et l'alumine
A study has been made of the reactions in the solid state between Ca(OH)2 and bayerite on the one hand, and between CaO and Al2O3 on the other, by preparing mixtures of these compounds and maintaining them at constant temperatures (110°, 400°, 900°, 1000°, 1100°, 1200°, 1250° and 1300° C). The samples were investigated by means of Xâray analysis, dilatometry and chemical analysis. It is shown that, as the temperature reaches 1000° C and then increases, there is first formed the aluminate with the highest Al2O3 content, followed by one with a lower content and finally by that one which has the lowest Al2O3 content. On the basis of these results, the author proposes a mechanism for the reaction in the solid state between Al2O3 and CaO which is shown schematically (fig. 9). RĂ©actions Ă l'Ă©tat solide dans le systĂšme ternaire O2Si, OCa, O3Al2
Our earlier work on reactions in the solid state of the systems Al2O3, SiO2 and Al2O3 CaO (Bull. Soc. Chim. Belges 1951 n° 60; 1953 n° 62), has enabled us to study the thermal behaviour of the ternary system Al2O3, SiO2, CaO, by the same methods. The samples were prepared by mixing pure oxides, and by mixing Kaolinite and CaO; the composition being in the same field as that of Portland Cement. After heating the samples to temperatures ranging from 1000° to 1400°, and Xâray examination, the following conclusions were reached. 1) From 1200 â 1300° the reactions are controlled only by the diffusion of the oxides. For mixtures prepared from pure oxides, the reactions are those established for the binary mixtures. For the Kaolinâlime mixtures, gehlenite is formed from 900° â 1000° instead of AC, then A3C5 is formed. The direction and the succession of these reactions does not depend on the concentration of the constituents in the mixtures. 2) Beyond 1300° the reactions tend towards equilibrium, as is shown on the phase diagram. La synthĂšse thermique des silicates de calcium
The work described here was carried out in order to determine the action of CaO on SiO2 by raising the temperature of mixtures of these oxides. For this, samples containing CaCO3 and amorphous SiO2, or, Ca(OH)2 and amorphous SiO2 were prepared. The formation of Ca silicates during the rise in temperature has been studied. The samples maintained 3 hours at various temperatures up to 1500° were examined by Ă rays and a differential thermal analysis of the mixtures was made. In order to demonstrate the formation of the various silicates (CS, C2S, C3S), it was necessary to synthesize the compounds in the pure state. I determined the Ă rays diagram of these silicates and compared them with the diagrams obtained by examination of the mixtures of oxides heated at various temperatures. The comparison of the results obtained has led me to propose a scheme of reaction of SiO2 on CaO in the solide state during the rise in temperature. Copyright © 1953 WileyâVCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
