Fragment isospin distributions and the phase diagram of excited nuclear systems
Fragment average isospin distributions are investigated within a
microcanonical multifragmentation model in different regions of the phase
diagram. The results indicate that in the liquid phase versus is
monotonically increasing, in the phase coexistence region it has a rise and
fall shape and in the gas phase it is constant. Deviations from this behavior
may manifest at low fragment multiplicity as a consequence of mass/charge
conservation. Characterization of the "free" and "bound" phases function of
fragment charge reconfirms the neutron enrichment of the "free" phase with
respect to the "bound" one irrespectively the localization of the
multifragmentation event in the phase diagram.Comment: 23 pages, 12 figure
An Interface for Remote Sensing Digital Image Systems and Geographic Information Systems
An interfacing technique, zonation algorithms (ZONAL), which provides a means of utilizing LANDSAT information in a polygon-based geographic information system (GIS) is discussed. The ZONAL mechanisms are based on the use of existing GIS polynomial layer, thereby making the process entirely automated
A modified proximity approach in the fusion of heavy-ions
By using a suitable set of the surface energy coefficient, nuclear radius,
and universal function, the original proximity potential 1977 is modified. The
overestimate of the data by 4 % reported in the literature is significantly
reduced. Our modified proximity potential reproduces the experimental data
nicely compared to its older versions.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures, Chin. Phys. lett.(2010) in pres
Liquid-Drop Model and Quantum Resistance Against Noncompact Nuclear Geometries
The importance of quantum effects for exotic nuclear shapes is demonstrated.
Based on the example of a sheet of nuclear matter of infinite lateral
dimensions but finite thickness, it is shown that the quantization of states in
momentum space, resulting from the confinement of the nucleonic motion in the
conjugate geometrical space, generates a strong resistance against such a
confinement and generates restoring forces driving the system towards compact
geometries. In the liquid-drop model, these quantum effects are implicitly
included in the surface energy term, via a choice of interaction parameters, an
approximation that has been found valid for compact shapes, but has not yet
been scrutinized for exotic shapes.Comment: 9 pages with 3 figure
Nuclear Ground-State Masses and Deformations
We tabulate the atomic mass excesses and nuclear ground-state deformations of
8979 nuclei ranging from O to . The calculations are based on the
finite-range droplet macroscopic model and the folded-Yukawa single-particle
microscopic model. Relative to our 1981 mass table the current results are
obtained with an improved macroscopic model, an improved pairing model with a
new form for the effective-interaction pairing gap, and minimization of the
ground-state energy with respect to additional shape degrees of freedom. The
values of only 9 constants are determined directly from a least-squares
adjustment to the ground-state masses of 1654 nuclei ranging from O to
106 and to 28 fission-barrier heights. The error of the mass model is
0.669~MeV for the entire region of nuclei considered, but is only 0.448~MeV for
the region above .Comment: 50 pages plus 20 PostScript figures and 160-page table obtainable by

Noise transmission through plates into an enclosure
An analytical model is presented to predict noise transmission through elastic plates into a hard-walled rectangular cavity at low frequencies, that is, frequencies up through the first few plate and cavity natural frequencies. One or several nonoverlapping and independently vibrating panels are considered. The effects on noise transmission of different external-pressure excitations, plate boundary conditions, fluid parameters, structural parameters, and geometrical parameters were investigated

Analytical parametrization of fusion barriers using proximity potentials
Using the three versions of proximity potentials, namely proximity 1977,
proximity 1988, and proximity 2000, we present a pocket formula for fusion
barrier heights and positions. This was achieved by analyzing as many as 400
reactions with mass between 15 and 296. Our parametrized formula can reproduced
the exact barrier heights and positions within an accuracy of . A
comparison with the experimental data is also in good agreement.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
Application of ERTS-1 data to analysis of agricultural crops and forests in Michigan
The results reported are based on analysis of ERTS Frame 1033-15580 collected over southwestern Lower Michigan on August 25, 1972. Major agricultural crops such as corn and soybeans were approaching maturity at this data and forest canopies were dense. Extensive ground truth information was gathered by detailed field study of test strips. This detailed information was supplemented over larger areas by interpretation of RB-57 and C-47 photography and MSS imagery. Recognition processing of ERTS-1 MSS data was carried out on a digital computer. Fields and forest stands were selected as training sets and test areas. Aerial imagery was essential for locating the positions of these selected areas on ERTS digital tapes. The recognition process was successful for each type of vegetation which had a dense green canopy such as forests, corn, and soybeans. Bare soil was also recognizable as a category
