A Modified Version of the Waxman Algorithm
The iterative algorithm recently proposed by Waxman for solving eigenvalue
problems, which relies on the method of moments, has been modified to improve
its convergence considerably without sacrificing its benefits or elegance. The
suggested modification is based on methods to calculate low-lying eigenpairs of
large bounded hermitian operators or matrices
Hunting Local Mixmaster Dynamics in Spatially Inhomogeneous Cosmologies
Heuristic arguments and numerical simulations support the Belinskii et al
(BKL) claim that the approach to the singularity in generic gravitational
collapse is characterized by local Mixmaster dynamics (LMD). Here, one way to
identify LMD in collapsing spatially inhomogeneous cosmologies is explored. By
writing the metric of one spacetime in the standard variables of another,
signatures for LMD may be found. Such signatures for the dynamics of spatially
homogeneous Mixmaster models in the variables of U(1)-symmetric cosmologies are
reviewed. Similar constructions for U(1)-symmetric spacetimes in terms of the

Evidence for an oscillatory singularity in generic U(1) symmetric cosmologies on
A longstanding conjecture by Belinskii, Lifshitz, and Khalatnikov that the
singularity in generic gravitational collapse is locally oscillatory is tested
numerically in vacuum, U(1) symmetric cosmological spacetimes on . If the velocity term dominated (VTD) solution to Einstein's equations is
substituted into the Hamiltonian for the full Einstein evolution equations, one
term is found to grow exponentially. This generates a prediction that
oscillatory behavior involving this term and another (which the VTD solution
causes to decay exponentially) should be observed in the approach to the

Ni3TeO6 - a collinear antiferromagnet with ferromagnetic honeycomb planes
We report a comprehensive study of magnetic properties of Ni3TeO6. The system
crystallizes in a noncentrosymmetric rhombohedral lattice, space group R3.
There are three differently coordinated Ni atoms in the unit cell. Two of them
form an almost planar honeycomb lattice, while the third one is placed between
the layers. Magnetization and specific heat measurements revealed a single
magnetic ordering at TN = 52 K. Below TN the susceptibility with the magnetic
field parallel to the c-axis drops towards zero while the perpendicular
susceptibility remains constant, a characteristic of antiferromagnetic
materials. Neutron diffraction confirmed that the system is antiferromagnet
below TN with ferromagnetic ab-planes stacked antiferromagnetically along the
c-axis. All Ni moments are in the S = 1 spin state and point along the c-axis.Comment: accepted for publication in Journal of Physics Condensed Matte
Resummation Effects in Vector-Boson and Higgs Associated Production
Fixed-order QCD radiative corrections to the vector-boson and Higgs
associated production channels, pp -> VH (V=W, Z), at hadron colliders are well
understood. We combine higher order perturbative QCD calculations with
soft-gluon resummation of both threshold logarithms and logarithms which are
important at low transverse momentum of the VH pair. We study the effects of
both types of logarithms on the scale dependence of the total cross section and
on various kinematic distributions. The next-to-next-to-next-to-leading
logarithmic (NNNLL) resummed total cross sections at the LHC are almost
identical to the fixed-order perturbative next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO)
rates, indicating the excellent convergence of the perturbative QCD series.
Resummation of the VH transverse momentum (p_T) spectrum provides reliable
results for small values of p_T and suggests that implementing a jet-veto will
significantly decrease the cross sections.Comment: 25 pages, references update
Covariant baryon charge radii and magnetic moments in a chiral constituent quark model
The charge radii and magnetic moments of all the light and strange baryons
are investigated within the framework of a constituent quark model based on
Goldstone-boson-exchange dynamics. Following the point-form approach to
relativistic quantum mechanics, the calculations are performed in a manifestly
covariant manner. Relativistic (boost) effects have a sizeable influence on the
results. The direct predictions of the constituent quark model are found to
fall remarkably close to the available experimental data.Comment: 6 pages, 4 table
The two components of the SO(3)-character space of the fundamental group of a closed surface of genus 2
We use geometric techniques to explicitly find the topological structure of
the space of SO(3)-representations of the fundamental group of a closed surface
of genus 2 quotient by the conjugation action by SO(3). There are two
components of the space. We will describe the topology of both components and
describe the corresponding SU(2)-character spaces by parametrizing them by
spherical triangles. There is the sixteen to one branch-covering for each
component, and the branch locus is a union of 2-spheres or 2-tori. Along the
way, we also describe the topology of both spaces. We will later relate this
result to future work into higher-genus cases and the SL(3,R)-representations
High-fructose corn-syrup-sweetened beverage intake increases 5-hour breast milk fructose concentrations in lactating women
This study determined the effects of consuming a high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)-sweetened beverage on breast milk fructose, glucose, and lactose concentrations in lactating women. At six weeks postpartum, lactating mothers (n = 41) were randomized to a crossover study to consume a commercially available HFCS-sweetened beverage or artificially sweetened control beverage. At each session, mothers pumped a complete breast milk expression every hour for six consecutive hours. The baseline fasting concentrations of breast milk fructose, glucose, and lactose were 5.0 ± 1.3 µg/mL, 0.6 ± 0.3 mg/mL, and 6.8 ± 1.6 g/dL, respectively. The changes over time in breast milk sugars were significant only for fructose (treatment × time, p < 0.01). Post hoc comparisons showed the HFCS-sweetened beverage vs. control beverage increased breast milk fructose at 120 min (8.8 ± 2.1 vs. 5.3 ± 1.9 µg/mL), 180 min (9.4 ± 1.9 vs. 5.2 ± 2.2 µg/mL), 240 min (7.8 ± 1.7 vs. 5.1 ± 1.9 µg/mL), and 300 min (6.9 ± 1.4 vs. 4.9 ± 1.9 µg/mL) (all p < 0.05). The mean incremental area under the curve for breast milk fructose was also different between treatments (14.7 ± 1.2 vs. −2.60 ± 1.2 µg/mL × 360 min, p < 0.01). There was no treatment × time interaction for breast milk glucose or lactose. Our data suggest that the consumption of an HFCS-sweetened beverage increased breast milk fructose concentrations, which remained elevated up to five hours post-consumption
Electromagnetic nucleon form factors in instant and point form
We present a study of the electromagnetic structure of the nucleons with
constituent quark models in the framework of relativistic quantum mechanics. In
particular, we address the construction of spectator-model currents in the
instant and point forms. Corresponding results for the elastic nucleon
electromagnetic form factors as well as charge radii and magnetic moments are
presented. We also compare results obtained by different realistic nucleon wave
functions stemming from alternative constituent quark models. Finally, we
discuss the theoretical uncertainties that reside in the construction of
