Determination of the Michel Parameters rho, xi, and delta in tau-Lepton Decays with tau --> rho nu Tags

    Using the ARGUS detector at the e+ee^+ e^- storage ring DORIS II, we have measured the Michel parameters ρ\rho, ξ\xi, and ξδ\xi\delta for τ±l±ννˉ\tau^{\pm}\to l^{\pm} \nu\bar\nu decays in τ\tau-pair events produced at center of mass energies in the region of the Υ\Upsilon resonances. Using τρν\tau^\mp \to \rho^\mp \nu as spin analyzing tags, we find ρe=0.68±0.04±0.08\rho_{e}=0.68\pm 0.04 \pm 0.08, ξe=1.12±0.20±0.09\xi_{e}= 1.12 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.09, ξδe=0.57±0.14±0.07\xi\delta_{e}= 0.57 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.07, ρμ=0.69±0.06±0.08\rho_{\mu}= 0.69 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.08, ξμ=1.25±0.27±0.14\xi_{\mu}= 1.25 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.14 and ξδμ=0.72±0.18±0.10\xi\delta_{\mu}= 0.72 \pm 0.18 \pm 0.10. In addition, we report the combined ARGUS results on ρ\rho, ξ\xi, and ξδ\xi\delta using this work und previous measurements.Comment: 10 pages, well formatted postscript can be found at http://pktw06.phy.tu-dresden.de/iktp/pub/desy97-194.p

A Search for the Electric Dipole Moment of the Tau-Lepton

Using the ARGUS detector at the e+e- storage ring DORIS II, we have searched for the real and imaginary part of the electric dipole formfactor d_tau of the tau lepton in the production of tau pairs at q^2=100 GeV^2. This is the first direct measurement of this CP violating formfactor. We applied the method of optimised observables which takes into account all available information on the observed tau decay products. No evidence for CP violation was found, and we derive the following results: Re(d_tau)=(1.6+-.9)*10^(-16) ecm and Im(d_tau)=(-0.2+-0.8)*10^(-16) ecm, where statistical and systematic errors have been combined.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures (10 subfigures

    The ARGUS microvertex drift chamber

    No full text
The ARGUS collaboration is currently building a new microvertex drift chamber (μVDC) as an upgrade of their detector. The μVDC is optimized for B-meson physics at DORIS energies. Important design features are minimal multiple scattering for low-momentum particles and three-dimensional reconstruction of decay vertices with equal resolutions in r-φ and r-z. Vertex resolutions of 15–25 μm are expected. Prototypes of the μVDC have been tested with different gas mixtures at various pressures. Spatial resolutions as small as 20 μm were obtained using CO2/propane at 4 bar and DME at 1 bar. New readout electronics have been developed for the μVDC aiming at low thresholds for the TDC measurements. Employing a novel idea for noise and cross-talk suppression, which is based on a discrimination against short pulses, very low threshold settings are possible

The Hadronic Cross-section of Electron - Positron Annihilation at 9.5-{GeV} and the Υ\Upsilon and Υ\Upsilon^\prime Resonance Parameters

    The reaction e + e − → hadrons has been measured in the ϒ and ϒ′ region using the DASP detector at the DESY storage ring DORIS. The following final results are obtained: R had (9.5 GeV)=3.73±0.16±0.28, Γ ee ( ϒ )=(1.23 ± 0.08 ± 0.12) keV, B μμ ( ϒ )=(3.2±1.3±0.3)%, Γ ee Γ had Γ tot (ϒ′)=(0.55±0.11 ±0.06) keV , and M ( ϒ ′)− M ( ϒ )=(556 ±10) MeV

A determination of the total width of the Υ\Upsilon (9.46)(9.46) meson

    Using the DASP detector at the DESY storage ring DORIS we have continued measuring e + e − annihilations near and on the ϒ(9.46) resonance. From the cross sections for e + e − → μ + μ − and e + e − → hadrons we obtain a μ + μ − branching ratio for the ϒ(9.46) of (2.9 ± 1.3 ± 0.5) %, a leptonic width г ee = (1.35 ± 0.11 ± 0.22) keV and a total width of (47 −15 +37 keV
