The amalgamated duplication of a ring along a multiplicative-canonical ideal
After recalling briefly the main properties of the amalgamated duplication of
a ring along an ideal , denoted by R\JoinI, we restrict our attention
to the study of the properties of R\JoinI, when is a multiplicative
canonical ideal of \cite{hhp}. In particular, we study when every regular
fractional ideal of is divisorial
Imitatio heroica
<![CDATA[This book presents a thorough discussion of utility cycling, cycling in the urban environment, and everyday mobility. It is based on large survey answered by 14,000 participants in the bike to work action in Switzerland, and quantifies the various dimensions of utility cycling.
It proposes an innovative theoretical framework to analyse and understand the various dimensions of the uses of bikes and their diversity. It addresses the factors that motivate commuters to get on their bike, and highlights the barriers to this practice between deficient infrastructures and lack of legitimacy. This research makes a diagnosis and discusses the way to develop this sustainable mode of transportation.
By combining quantitative results in the form of tables, figures, and maps, and including qualitative results in the form of quotations from survey participants, this book provides a thorough and enjoyable read. It will be of interest to researchers, policy makers, advanced students in the field of urban planning, social sciences, and transportation
SAS CARE 1: Sleep architecture changes in a cohort of patients with Ischemic Stroke/TIA.
OBJECTIVE
Changes in sleep architecture following ischemic stroke have been poorly investigated. Our objective was to explore changes of sleep structure in patients with ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack in order to verify a possible predictive value of sleep with respect to clinical outcome.
METHODS
Patients recruited in the prospective SAS-CARE study received two polysomnographies (PSG) in the acute and chronic phases after stroke/TIA. Sleep parameters were compared between the two time-points and matched with a non-stroke population randomly selected from the HypnoLaus cohort.
RESULTS
Of the 169 patients investigated with PSG in the acute phase, 104 were again studied 3 months after stroke symptom onset and compared with 162 controls. The acute phase of stroke/TIA was associated with sleep disruption, which significantly improved in the chronic phase, but remained worse than controls (total sleep time improve from 318.8 ± 90.8 to 348.4 ± 81.5 min, compared to 388.2 ± 71.3 in controls, sleep latency from 49.9 ± 58.4 to 27.9 min, compared to 20.2 ± 22 in controls, sleep efficiency from 58.2 ± 18.1% to 27.9 ± 36.4 min, compared to 83.4 ± 10.3% in controls, wakefulness after sleep onset percentage from 36.5 ± 17.3 to 29.3 ± 15.6, compared to 13.2 ± 9.2 in controls). The percentage of REM sleep was negatively associated with stroke severity, whereas stroke topography did not correlate with sleep parameters.
CONCLUSIONS
This study confirmed a severe sleep disruption in the acute phase of stroke. Although a significant improvement of sleep quality was observed during the three months after stroke, sleep architecture did not normalize. In particular, sleep efficiency and REM sleep seem to be particularly affected by stroke in the acute phase, with a relative preservation of NREM sleep. We suggest that these sleep architecture changes represent a persistent marker of brain damage due to stroke. Further studies are needed to assess the relationship with stroke topographic and outcome
New distinguished classes of spectral spaces: a survey
In the present survey paper, we present several new classes of Hochster's
spectral spaces "occurring in nature", actually in multiplicative ideal theory,
and not linked to or realized in an explicit way by prime spectra of rings. The
general setting is the space of the semistar operations (of finite type),
endowed with a Zariski-like topology, which turns out to be a natural
topological extension of the space of the overrings of an integral domain,
endowed with a topology introduced by Zariski. One of the key tool is a recent
characterization of spectral spaces, based on the ultrafilter topology, given
in a paper by C. Finocchiaro in Comm. Algebra 2014. Several applications are
also discussed
The genetic etiology of periodic limb movement in sleep
Study Objectives Periodic limb movement in sleep is a common sleep phenotype characterized by repetitive leg movements that occur during or before sleep. We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of periodic limb movements in sleep (PLMS) using a joint analysis (i.e., discovery, replication, and joint meta-analysis) of four cohorts (MrOS, the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study, HypnoLaus, and MESA), comprised of 6843 total subjects. Methods The MrOS study and Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study (N = 1745 cases) were used for discovery. Replication in the HypnoLaus and MESA cohorts (1002 cases) preceded joint meta-analysis. We also performed LD score regression, estimated heritability, and computed genetic correlations between potentially associated traits such as restless leg syndrome (RLS) and insomnia. The causality and direction of the relationships between PLMS and RLS was evaluated using Mendelian randomization. Results We found 2 independent loci were significantly associated with PLMS: rs113851554 (p = 3.51 x 10(-12), beta = 0.486), an SNP located in a putative regulatory element of intron eight of MEIS1 (2p14);and rs9369062 (p = 3.06 x 10(-22), beta = 0.2093), a SNP located in the intron region of BTBD9 (6p12);both of which were also lead signals in RLS GWAS. PLMS is genetically correlated with insomnia, risk of stroke, and RLS, but not with iron deficiency. Pleiotropy adjusted Mendelian randomization analysis identified a causal effect of RLS on PLMS. Conclusions Because PLMS is more common than RLS, PLMS may have multiple causes and additional studies are needed to further validate these findings
LAG3 is not expressed in human and murine neurons and does not modulate α-synucleinopathies.
While the initial pathology of Parkinson's disease and other α-synucleinopathies is often confined to circumscribed brain regions, it can spread and progressively affect adjacent and distant brain locales. This process may be controlled by cellular receptors of α-synuclein fibrils, one of which was proposed to be the LAG3 immune checkpoint molecule. Here, we analysed the expression pattern of LAG3 in human and mouse brains. Using a variety of methods and model systems, we found no evidence for LAG3 expression by neurons. While we confirmed that LAG3 interacts with α-synuclein fibrils, the specificity of this interaction appears limited. Moreover, overexpression of LAG3 in cultured human neural cells did not cause any worsening of α-synuclein pathology ex vivo. The overall survival of A53T α-synuclein transgenic mice was unaffected by LAG3 depletion, and the seeded induction of α-synuclein lesions in hippocampal slice cultures was unaffected by LAG3 knockout. These data suggest that the proposed role of LAG3 in the spreading of α-synucleinopathies is not universally valid
