Reischauer lectures delivered by Ezra Vogel, the Henry Ford II Professor of Social Sciences at Harvard University and a leading scholar on Asia. In the first chapter Vogel establishes the context for the experiences of the late late industrializes . Japan and the Four Little Dragons (Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan). The next three chapters are devoted to the experiences of Taiwan, Korea, and Hong Kong and Singapore, respectively. The last chapter offers an explanation for the dragons\u27 successes

Der Turmfalke - Vogel des Jahres 2007 - häufig im Kreis Höxter

Der Turmfalke ist ein – noch – häufiger und als „Allgemeingut“ empfundener Vertreter der Greifvögel im ländlich geprägten Kreis Höxter. Er nistet in vielen Kirchtürmen und anderen geeigneten Gemäuern, so z. B. in der Südwand des Steinernen Hauses in Borgentreich, dem Sitz der Landschaftsstation. Nicht selten sieht man ihn sprichwörtlich „rüttelnd“ über der Feldflur „stehen“. Doch auch er ist von mancher Wandsanierung oder Fassadenglättung sowie der schleichenden Verschlechterung seiner Lebensraumqualität betroffen. Um hier entgegen zu steuern, veranlasste der NABU Kreisverband Höxter, dass im November 2006 die heimische Presse ausführlich über den Turmfalken berichtete. Vom NABU-Höxter wurden kostenlos Nisthilfen für Turmfalken angeboten. „Kein Turm ohne Falke“, so lautete das Schlagwort dieser Aktion. Kurz nach der Pressemeldung wurden auch noch alle Ortheimatpfleger des Kreises Höxter angeschrieben und um Installation der kostenlosen Nistkästen gebeten. Es wurden dann die rund 30 bestellten Nistkästen in der NABU-Werkstatt in Marienmünster-Born selber hergestellt und zum Jahreswechsel 2006/2007 an die Interessenten ausgeliefert. Von geschickten Bastlern können Nisthilfen für den Turmfalken sehr leicht selber hergestellt werden. Die Außenmaße B/ H/ T betragen etwa 42/ 30/ 26 cm, wobei die Vorderfront auf der ganzen Breite zur Hälfte offen bleibt

Tactical Air Power in Normandy: Some Thoughts on the Interdiction Plan

The Allied campaign in North-West Europe in 1944–45 ended with the capitulation of the German Army and must, therefore, be considered an eminently successful operation. In its initial phase, that is the assault on Normandy and the securing of a defensible lodgement area, it was undoubtedly one of the most dangerous and complicated operations of the war. Nevertheless it ended as the victory which marked the beginning of the end of the Third Reich. Like many other campaigns, however, it did not go exactly as planned and many have claimed that the Allied Armies were neither properly trained nor adequately led and that, therefore, some other element ensured the victory. The overwhelming power of the Allied air force and its effects on the operations of the German Army has been the favourite theme of both historians and German generals. This powerful combination has long dominated the assessment of the campaign. It is not the purpose of this essay to minimize the importance of Allied air operations, in particular the attacks on the German communication system. Rather, it is an attempt to examine in some detail the actual results of that operation in order to obtain a clearer understanding of its place among the many other ingredients which combined to defeat the German Army in Normandy
