Plasma heating due to X-B mode conversion in a cylindrical ECR plasma system

Extra Ordinary (X) mode conversion to Bernstein wave near Upper Hybrid Resonance (UHR) layer plays an important role in plasma heating through cyclotron resonance. Wave generation at UHR and parametric decay at high power has been observed during Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) heating experiments in toroidal magnetic fusion devices. A small linear system with ECR and UHR layer within the system has been used to conduct experiments on X-B conversion and parametric decay process as a function of system parameters. Direct probing {\em in situ} is conducted and plasma heating is evidenced by soft x-ray emission measurement. Experiments are performed with hydrogen plasma produced with 160-800 W microwave power at 2.45 GHz of operating frequency at $10^{-3}$ mbar pressure. The axial magnetic field required for ECR is such that the resonant surface (B = 875 G) is situated at the geometrical axis of the plasma system. Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls: Two Sides of a Coin

The article investigates how Ernest Hemingway’s works A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the Bell Tolls, known as classics of American literature, are similar in varied aspects. This comparative-analytical study attempts to identify essential features of each novel and to explain how these integrate and complement each other. Here we adopt the qualitative descriptive approach as a methodological tool to obtain data to compare and contrast the novels from varied perspectives. Several articles and books of the novels are examined to comprehend about thematical, biographical, and diachronic aspects of the novels. Besides, it also explores more the setting of novels (war), the eternal love, autobiographic nature, characterization, language, and plotting style, and how the two characters meet their tragic end to prove both novels as two sides of a coin. Also, it answers how some features weave two novels together. The explanation expects that Hemingway's works, written in a distinct writing style and with a focus on topics, will continue to capture and connect with modern readers, as well as contribute to world literature

Memory, Media, and Modernity in Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie: A Twenty-first Century Perspective

This article explores how effectively Tennessee Williams in The Glass Menagerie uses ‘memory’ to add new dramatic elements by recounting historical occurrences, ‘media’ to accurately depict people’s circumstances and an authentic picture of society, and ‘modernity’ through his characters that affected their lives in the play. In this study, a descriptive study design with a component of qualitative analysis is used to find out answers to three research questions based on “memory, media and modernity” in The Glass Menagerie, and get a credible solution to strengthen our arguments. The in-depth analysis reveals Williams’ concerns about middle-class people, society, and the office’s authority during this era of transition. Additionally, it underscores how The Glass Menagerie incorporates shards of memories, media, and modernity to exhibit a congenial depiction of a modern spirit that Williams shares with the common people and readers whose voices he intercepts. The article intends to see how far Williams accomplished his objectives in portraying the deterioration of values, culture, traditions, and socio-economic problems to bring new force and genre to American drama. The in-depth analysis is sufficient to deem the play a quintessential, play for readers of all ages, a “Plastic Glass” genre that blends the middle class, experiences, characters’ displays, and cultures. Finally, the discussion proves that the new genre is enlivened by the common people and eternal survivors of the 21st century

Managing Change and Strategic Thinking: Evidences from Hospitality and Tourism Sector of the UK

This qualitative paper examines the strategic thinking and managing change in complex business environment in the hospitality and tourism sector of the UK through the cases of Hilton London Canary Wharf and Hilton London Tower Bridge. For the purpose of analysis, researchers explored the research phenomenon under different models including TALC model and IBTEE Model. Using convenience sampling, researchers interviewed face-to-face 12 Line Managers and 30 employees through open-ended semi-structured interview questions regarding change management process and obstacles interlinked with it. Findings revealed that although Hilton hotels have adapted changes to some extent but there is still more room for further improvement. The management of the selected hotels highly relies on the training purpose for the effective change adaption whereas coaching and research is lagging behind. The biggest constraint during effective change adaption is the diverse background of the workforce as most are from the multicultural backgrounds. Moreover, the communication, ritual, and cultural barriers are causing issues in the change process. Lastly, the recommendations are given for consolidating effective change management at workplace

Liquefaction Potential Evaluation Based on Site Classes – A Performance Based Approach

Lots of research work is being carried out in evaluating the liquefaction susceptibility. The main objectives of these studies are to identify the regions which are vulnerable to liquefaction. In the present study, an attempt has been made to predict the liquefaction susceptibility based on corrected SPT values required to prevent the liquefaction for given return periods. The evaluation of liquefaction susceptibility requires the calculation of two parameters, seismic loading and the soil resistance. In most of the studies, the seismic loading will be evaluated based on probabilistic methods and the evaluation of soil resistance will be done based on deterministic analysis. In the present study these parameters were evaluated based on the probabilistic methods. The contour curves showing the spatial variation of SPT values required to prevent the liquefaction for return periods of 475 and 2500 years are presented here. The liquefaction hazard curves, based on SPT values for some of the selected cities in the study area are also presented here

Trends in Commercial-Off-The-Shelf vs. Proprietary Applications

This study examines factors valued by IS managers in deciding if COTS software is a viable alternative to proprietary software. The results indicate managers who anticipate increased usage of COTS packages in 5 years used the same top three factors in the formation of their decisions to adopt COTS as their colleagues who anticipated either zero change in COTS usage or an increased usage of proprietary software used in deciding not to adopt COTS software. Managers anticipating increased COTS usage had a statistically significant higher value for each of those items compared to managers not anticipating growth in COTS software

Impact Of Radical And Incremental Curriculum Changes On Students

College curricula undergo changes periodically. This case discusses the various change management strategies employed by the faculty of a midwestern university in implementing incremental and radical change in the business school curriculum. It also analyzes the impact of these changes on student perceptions of the course and of the instructor. Our analysis reveals interesting trends in student responses over a seven year span. We find that students initially resist both types of changes, although the resistance is greater in the case of radical changes. Nevertheless, they eventually view both types of changes as adding value to the curriculum. However, the perception of value addition is temporary, lasting longer for radical change (seven semesters) than for incremental change (five semesters). This suggests that updating of curricula is required on an ongoing basis
