Exaggerated Realism Interacting With Computers In Future

    Get PDF
A revolution in computer interface design is changing the way we think about computers. Rather than typing on a keyboard and watching a television monitor, Augmented Reality lets people use familiar, everyday objects in ordinary ways. The difference is that these objects also provide a link into a computer network. HCI 2020 produced many ideas, both thrilling and troubling. This report is not a conventional publication of an academic conference but seeks to convey the passion of those ideas, both for the general reader and the HCI practitioner. Forthe general reader, t his is important because knowledge of what the future might be may empower, while ignorance harm. For the HCI practitioner, its purpose is to map out the terrain and suggest new approaches while keeping an eye on the main prize: the embodiment of human values at the heart of com puting

    Hardware Implementation of SpoC-128

    Get PDF
In this work, we present a hardware implementation of the lightweight Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD) SpoC-128. Designed by AlTawy, Gong, He, Jha, Mandal, Nandi and Rohit; SpoC-128 was submitted to the Lightweight Cryptography (LWC) competition being organised by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the United States Department of Commerce. Our implementation follows the Application Programming Interface (API) specified by the cryptographic engineering research group in the George Mason University (GMU). The source codes are available over the public internet as an open-source project

Design of arithmetic circuits in quantum dot cellular automata nanotechnology

    No full text
This research monograph focuses on the design of arithmetic circuits in Quantum Dot Cellular Automata (QCA). Using the fact that the 3-input majority gate is a primitive in QCA, the book sets out to discover hitherto unknown properties of majority logic in the context of arithmetic circuit designs. The pursuit for efficient adders in QCA takes two forms. One involves application of the new results in majority logic to existing adders. The second involves development of a custom adder for QCA technology. A QCA adder named as hybrid adder is proposed and it is shown that it outperforms existing multi-bit adders with respect to area and delay. The work is extended to the design of a low-complexity multiplier for signed numbers in QCA. Furthermore the book explores two aspects unique to QCA technology, namely thermal robustness and the role of interconnects. In addition, the book introduces the reader to QCA layout design and simulation using QCADesigner. Features & Benefits: This research-based book: 路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Introduces the reader to Quantum Dot Cellular Automata, an emerging nanotechnology. 路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Explores properties of majority logic. 路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Demonstrates application of the properties to design efficient arithmetic circuits. 路聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Guides the reader towards layout design and simulation in QCADesigner

Autologous serum skin test as an indicator of chronic autoimmune urticaria in a tertiary care hospital in South India

    No full text
Background: Autologous serum skin test (ASST) is a simple in-vivo clinical test for the detection of basophil histamine releasing activity and to diagnose chronic autoimmune urticaria (CAU) among chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) patients. Diagnosing these patients is also important as they may need high doses of antihistamines and systemic corticosteroids during acute exacerbations. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study is to study the prevalence of CAU among cases of CSU by using ASST. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study done among 48 patients presenting with CSU. Detailed history, physical examination and routine investigations were recorded for all patients. ASST was done on all the 48 patients. Results: Of the 48 patients included in the study, 20 patients (41.6%) were ASST positive, while the remaining 28 (58%) were ASST negative. The median duration of disease in both ASST positive and negative patients was 1 year. ASST positivity was higher (66.6%) among patients with a history of round shaped weals, though not statistically significant. ASST positivity was seen in 5 (71.4%) out of seven patients with systemic involvement, which was again not statistically significant. Conclusion: Our study did not show any significant difference between patients with and without antibodies regarding mean age and sex distribution, clinical morphology of individual weals, duration, severity, systemic symptoms, angioedema, atopy, and association with other autoimmune conditions

    Monilethrix: A rare hereditary condition

    No full text
Monilethrix is a rare hereditary condition generally considered to be an autosomal-dominant disorder with variable penetrance. Here, we report a case of monilethrix in a 13-year-old boy with an affected sibling. A therapeutic trial with oral N-acetyl cysteine was attempted. There was slight improvement after 2 months of therapy. The hair density, however, did not show any further improvement subsequently. Monilethrix remains as a therapeutic challenge for dermatologists

Efficient and lightweight quantized compressive sensing using 渭-law

    No full text
IoT devices for video sensing need to operate within the constraints of limited bandwidth and low computing capabilities. To that effect, Compressive Sensing (CS) emerged as a prominent technique for balancing the quality of images/video and the computing/communication overheads. For CS of video data, the Block-based CS (BCS) is typically used due to low complexity. However, while CS reduces the number of samples to be transmitted, the bit-width of each sample increases due to the linear algebraic operations involved in CS, thus making CS less attractive in its pure and straightforward form. To further optimize the use of CS in IoT devices for video sensing, we explore the use of 渭-law quantization technique due to its low hardware implementation overhead. We designed and implemented a complete CS platform with the integration of 渭-law quantization, and studied the image quality at different compression ratios. The results show that the proposed quantization technique requires only up to 40 additional LUTs compared to the baseline algorithm, while achieving an additional compression of up to 280% in the best case.NRF (Natl Research Foundation, S鈥檖ore

VHF backscatter radar observations of the equatorial electrojet irregularities - diurnal, seasonal and solar cycle variations

    No full text
VHF backscatter radar observations at Thumba, for the period 1974-1982, are used to study the diurnal, seasonal and solar cycle variations of the Doppler frequency of the Doppler frequency of the backscatter echoes from the 2.7 m scale size ionization iregularities in the equatorial electrojet. The study shows that the Doppler frequency exhibits strong diurnal, seasonal and solar activity dependences. Also, it is seen that the average characteristics of the Doppler frequency variations are in broad agreement with the observed Delta-H variations at Trivandrum. A discussion is given on the constraints under which the observed Doppler frequency variations can be regarded as representing the corresponding variations in the electric fields of the equatorial electrojet
