In many chemical processes, pH is one of the most important parameter and control of the pH is highly non linear due to the complex nature of processes. PID controllers are widely used in process industries to control linear, non-linear and stable, unstable systems. Selection of the suitable controller tuning procedure is important to improve the performance of the PID controller and hence the process variable can be controlled in better manner. In this work, Firefly Algorithm (FA) based intelligent PI controller is attempted for a Non Linear pH control process in real time. The effectiveness of the FA controller is studied in the selected operating regions and the results are validated with Relay Feedback (RFB) method and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method based controllers in the simulation environment. The simulation results indicated that the steady state performance and error performance indices of the FA controller are better than the RFB and PSO controller in the selected operating regions. The FA controller is also implemented in the real time laboratory pH control system, the results confirm that the servo response and regulatory response of the proposed intelligent controller provides better performance with the FA based PI Controllers

Conjugacy and Compatibility of Partial Arrays

Berstel and Boason introduced the partial words in the context of gene (or protein) comparision (1). To develop an overall picture of how genes are regulated during hyphal development the partial DNA arrays are used to study the difference in gene expression between wild type and the signalling mutants. Also Aldo de Luca developed a combinatorial method for the analysis of finite words for the study of biological molecules. This paper studies a relaxation of compatibility relation called K-compatibility  and conjugacy of K- compatibility between partial arrays.Â

Compatibility and Conjugacy on Partial Arrays

Research in combinatorics on words goes back a century. Berstel and Boasson introduced the partial words in the context of gene comparison. Alignment of two genes can be viewed as a construction of two partial words that are said to be compatible. In this paper, we examine to which extent the fundamental properties of partial words such as compatbility and conjugacy remain true for partial arrays. This paper studies a relaxation of the compatibility relation called k-compability. It also studies k-conjugacy of partial arrays

Extended Kalman Filter based State Estimation of Wind Turbine

Abstract-State estimation provides the best possible approximation for the state of the system by processing the available information. In the proposed work, the state estimation technique is used for the state estimation of wind turbine. Modern wind turbines operate in a wide range of wind speeds. To enable wind turbine operation in such a variety of operating conditions, sophisticated control and estimation algorithms are needed. The theoretical basis of Extended Kalman Filter algorithm is explained in detail and performance is tested with the simulation. A nonlinear state estimator named Extended Kalman Filter can be used for estimating the states of wind turbine. The Extended Kalman Filter is a recursive estimator that can be decomposed into two phases such as prediction and correction performed at every time instant. The states estimated by using Extended Kalman Filter for wind turbine application includes rotor speed of turbine, tower top displacement and its velocity

Reconfigurable Fuzzy for Cassava Starch Modification Process in Biodegradable Plastics and Pharmaceutical Applications

In this paper, we build up a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) to support the operator working in cassava starch chemical modification process. The designed fuzzy logic controller considers four input parameters of cassava native starch pH, viscosity, temperature and moisture to evaluate three output chemical ratios of sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid and maleic anhydride or phthalic anhydride essential to mix with the native starch in modified starch manufacturing process. Sugeno fuzzy logic model designed, simulated and implemented in re-configurable FPGA architecture using system generator would load the necessary program to fire specific fuzzy rules according to the type of starch modification process, especially being used for manufacturing modified starches in the process of biodegradable plastic and tablet manufacturing applications
