A Comparative Study Of Business Women\u27s Attitudes Toward Work
Although feminism has made its contribution to the American woman\u27s improved status, many conditions are operative in shaping her present life pattern over which women themselves have had little control. These influences have been found in our economic growth, which has created a need for women in paid employment; in work mechanization, which has increased the number of jobs to which women are physically adapted; in generally better working conditions; in a new psychological need among women; and in our social philosophy. Even though the greater number and variety of work opportunities was cited as a major factor in drawing women into the labor force, closely related to this cause is the awareness of self-image arid the need for satisfaction.
The Statement of the Problem
This study proposed to compare the attitudes of women in business toward work. More specifically, this study was designed to determine and analyze the attitudes of business women employed in the southwest section of Houston, Texas toward work.
The Subproblems
The following subproblems v/ere derived from the problem of this study:
I. The first subproblem. The first subproblem v/as to compare the attitudes of business women toward work ethnicity.
2. The second subproblem. The second subproblem was to compare the attitudes of business women tov/ard work by age.
3. The third subproblem. The third subproblem was to compare the attitudes of business women toward work by education.
4. The fourth subproblem. The fourth subproblem was to compare the attitudes of business women toward work by occupation
Integrating sanitation and environment assessments for use in emergencies
Emergency response is characterised by the need for rapid and effective assessment of the existing
situation to allow for informed decision making. It is within these constraints of limited time and
resources that personnel are expected to implement life sustaining interventions. During this time the
consideration of cross-cutting
issues such as the environment are limited as they are not seen as an
integral part of immediate emergency response. Environmental awareness needs to be improved during
emergency response to avoid future implications for the population and the environment upon which they
depend. This study therefore focused on determining the likelihood of successful integration of
environmental considerations within an existing emergency sanitation assessment. It tested two
assessment methods, one for environmental sanitation and one for environmental impacts in a refugee
camp in Zambia and makes recommendations on the practical application of these frameworks
Strategies for Improving the Success Rates of Lean Six Sigma Projects
Ineffective Lean Six Sigma (LSS) project strategies can lead to excessive Lean Six Sigma (LSS) project costs. Manufacturing business leaders who fail to mitigate LSS project costs expose the LSS project to failure. Grounded in the theory of constraints, the purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore successful strategies LSS project leaders use to mitigate project costs in manufacturing. The participants comprised 16 aerospace manufacturing business leaders located in the southeast and northwest regions of the United States, who successfully implemented strategies to mitigate LSS project costs. Data were collected from semistructured interviews, a focus group, and a questionnaire. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data, 4 themes emerged: preparation, objectives, robust training, and collaboration. A key recommendation for business leaders is that involving an LSS certified expert is critical to LSS project leadership to mitigate project costs. The implications for positive social change include the potential for funding to social enterprises that reduce poverty, unemployment, and homelessness within the communities in which they operate
The More You Know: Designing and Implementing a Digital Materials Survey in UCLA Library Special Collections
In 2016, UCLA Library Special Collections embarked on a project to implement a comprehensive digital archives program. Because the overall goal is a program that enables us to programmatically and sustainably managing our born-digital material, a major focus during the first phase of this project has been on training and outreach to LSC staff. This is has been especially important with regard to our curators: the unique concerns associated with stewarding born-digital require the collection of specific contextual and technical information during the acquisitions process. To meet this need, LSC created an easy-to-use survey that would allow curators to systematically record this information about the digital material they acquire.
The Digital Materials Survey asks questions designed to help processors accurately assess the scope, content, and condition of the materials being acquired, and enables LSC to identify any privacy or preservation concerns. Since its implementation in the fall of 2016, the survey has dramatically improved both the quality and quantity of information about the digital materials LSC acquires.
Presenters will cover the survey’s impetus, describe its role in acquisition and collection management at LSC, discuss how it has contributed to the digital archive program’s overall sustainability, and share lessons learned during its creation and implementation. Particular emphasis will be placed on the collaborative nature of this endeavor--both in terms of the survey’s origins as a graduate student project in LSC’s Center for Primary Research and Training (CFPRT), and the coordination required to successfully incorporate the survey into standard curatorial practice
Pathways to digital skills development for Latino workers
UpSkill America — an initiative of the Economic Opportunities Program — and the Latinos and Society Program at the Aspen Institute, with support from Google.org, launched the Digital Skills and the Latino Workforce research project to better understand the challenges and opportunities that Latino workers and Latino business owners face to succeed in the digital economy. This report presents findings from a nationwide survey and in-depth interviews with employers of Latino frontline workers and workforce development organizations. The publication also identifies promising business practices and ecosystem approaches to developing the digital skills of the Latino workforce. Finally, the report concludes with a call-to-action for employers and workforce organizations to get involved in the planning process around the Digital Equity Act programs, to start in Summer 2022
A framework for evaluating complex environmental monitoring data and application to state-wide, long-term nongame fish and algae monitoring in Kansas.
Master of ScienceDepartment of Biological & Agricultural EngineeringTrisha L MooreEnvironmental monitoring data provide resource managers with broad snapshots of environmental quality and/or species distributions and are essential to understand the current state and trends in ecosystems and natural resources they provide. However, the very nature of environmental monitoring data, with their breadth in time and space, makes them notoriously difficult to statistically analyze. In this thesis, two environmental monitoring datasets from the State of Kansas are considered: algae and broader water quality in Kansas’ reservoirs and nongame fish and habitat in Kansas streams. The aim of this research is to introduce and apply a framework for systematically selecting, exploring, analyzing, and testing environmental datasets such as these. More specifically, this research uses long-term, state-wide datasets documenting water quality conditions, fish presence and absence, and fish habitat data in Kansas streams, lakes, and reservoirs to characterize the current conditions and relationships between water quality and cyanobacterial abundance in reservoirs and as well as fish presence with stream habitat characteristics. Ultimately, this thesis will contribute to understanding of the conditions that drive cyanobacterial blooms and subsequent effects on reservoir ecosystems. In addition to this, it will provide an understanding of the habitat variables that are associated with fish presences compared to absences. The goal of this data analysis was not to come to a single significant conclusion, but more so an approach to process and review variables in state-wide databases to gain a better understanding of what the monitoring data can provide. Then, using this information, provide a systematic framework for a comprehensive, responsible, and a useful approach to monitoring data
