Quantum Walk of Two Interacting Bosons
We study the effect of interactions on the bosonic two-particle quantum walk
and its corresponding spatial correlations. The combined effect of interactions
and Hanbury-Brown Twiss interference results in unique spatial correlations
which depend on the strength of the interaction, but not on its sign. The
results are explained in light of the two-particle spectrum and the physics of
attractively and repulsively bound pairs. We experimentally measure the weak
interaction limit of these effects in nonlinear photonic lattices. Finally, we
discuss an experimental approach to observe the strong interaction limit using
single atoms in optical lattices.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Comments wellcom
Cosmic String Spacetime in Dilaton Gravity and Flat Rotation Curves
In dilaton gravity theories, we consider a string-like topological defect
formed during U(1) gauge symmetry-breaking phase transition in the early
Universe, and far from the cosmic string we have vacuum solutions of the
generalized Einstein equation. We discuss how they can be related to the
flatness of galactic rotation curves.Comment: 9 pages, RevTeX4 fil
Complete Classification of the String-like Solutions of the Gravitating Abelian Higgs Model
The static cylindrically symmetric solutions of the gravitating Abelian Higgs
model form a two parameter family. In this paper we give a complete
classification of the string-like solutions of this system. We show that the
parameter plane is composed of two different regions with the following
characteristics: One region contains the standard asymptotically conic cosmic
string solutions together with a second kind of solutions with Melvin-like
asymptotic behavior. The other region contains two types of solutions with
bounded radial extension. The border between the two regions is the curve of
maximal angular deficit of .Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure
Exciton spin relaxation in single semiconductor quantum dots
We study the relaxation of the exciton spin (longitudinal relaxation time
) in single asymmetrical quantum dots due to an interplay of the
short--range exchange interaction and acoustic phonon deformation. The
calculated relaxation rates are found to depend strongly on the dot size,
magnetic field and temperature. For typical quantum dots and temperatures below
100 K, the zero--magnetic field relaxation times are long compared to the
exciton lifetime, yet they are strongly reduced in high magnetic fields. We
discuss explicitly quantum dots based on (In,Ga)As and (Cd,Zn)Se semiconductor
compounds.Comment: accepted for Phys. Rev.
Cosmic Strings in the Abelian Higgs Model with Conformal Coupling to Gravity
Cosmic string solutions of the abelian Higgs model with conformal coupling to
gravity are shown to exist. The main characteristics of the solutions are
presented and the differences with respect to the minimally coupled case are
studied. An important difference is the absence of Bogomolnyi cosmic string
solutions for conformal coupling. Several new features of the abelian Higgs
cosmic strings of both types are discussed. The most interesting is perhaps a
relation between the angular deficit and the central magnetic field which is
bounded by a critical value.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures; to appear in Phys. Rev.
Cosmological Sphaleron from Real Tunneling and Its Fate
We show that the cosmological sphaleron of Einstein-Yang-Mills system can be
produced from real tunneling geometries. The sphaleron will tend to roll down
to the vacuum or pure gauge field configuration, when the universe evolves in
the Lorentzian signature region with the sphaleron and the corresponding
hypersurface being the initial data for the Yang-Mills field and the universe,
respectively. However, we can also show that the sphaleron, although unstable,
can be regarded as a pseudo-stable solution because its lifetime is even much
greater than those of the universe.Comment: 20 pages, LaTex, article 12pt style, TIT/HEP-242/COSMO-3
