Quality Level Assessment of Sorption Chillers Installed in Solar Cooling Plants

    Get PDF
Abstract The use of reliable, representative and reproducible data for the assessment of the quality level of HVAC systems and components on seasonal basis is crucial especially in view of the obligation of energy labelling, which is due by September 2015, and of the market surveillance. An analysis on the current normative framework dedicated to sorption chiller has revealed that no exhaustive references for sorption technologies and applications exist. Therefore, two test procedures aimed at the mapping of performances of sorption chillers at full and part load have been developed. The procedures developed take into account also different machines operating modes (i.e. continuous and discontinuous). A first attempt of validation of the test procedures has been carried out and here presented

A Simulation Tool to Evaluate the Feasibility of a gasification-I.C.E. System to Produce Heat and Power for Industrial Applications☆

Abstract Combined heat and power (CHP) systems fed by renewable sources are of great interest for efficient and greener energy production in industrial applications. In order to reduce fossil fuel consumption, biomass gasification coupled with I.C.E. is a viable way for ensure constant and accurately predictable renewable energy production. The aim of this work is to evaluate the integration in an industrial context of a CHP system fed by syngas produced from woody biomass gasification in a downdraft reactor. The feasibility study was developed thorough the combination of two simulation programs. Aspen Plus was used for simulating the biomass gasification unit and was exploited in order to determine the syngas composition and flow rate. Results have been employed in TRNSYS, that has instead been chosen for the modeling of the complete CHP system

Design of an Innovative Graphite Exchanger for Adsorption Heat Pumps and Chillers

    Get PDF
Abstract In this work, an innovative adsorber for application in adsorption heat pumps and chillers is presented. The adsorber consists of several assembled graphite plates and the flow path of heat transfer fluid. Each plate consists of a process side (where zeolite is deposited onto) and a heat transfer fluid (HTF) side where liquid water flows. The resulting adsorbent heat exchanger is able to deliver about 0.5-1 kW cooling power and possesses attractive thermo physical properties, especially in term of low weight, volume and thermal capacity. Experimental testing of the full-scale adsorber by a testing station available at CNR ITAE is currently ongoing

Components and design guidelines for solar cooling systems: The experience of ZEOSOL

    Get PDF
In this paper, the activity carried out within the H2020 project ZEOSOL is introduced. Making use of the lessons learned from previous solar cooling projects, an advanced hybrid solar cooling system was developed. It consists of a thermal and an electric unit in parallel integrated in a single unit with the dry-cooler. ZEOSOL is based on commercial components but was optimised in order to guarantee optimal seasonal performance, high reliability (and therefore reduced maintenance) and easy installation. The components of the system were experimentally tested in the laboratories of AkoTec, CNR ITAE and Fahrenheit, with a specific attention to the definition of performance maps as a function of operating and design parameters. During the tests of each component, possible control strategies and rules were identified. Subsequently, a simplified sizing tool was developed, which can be adapted to different configurations and climates and takes into account user-experience for different stakeholders, such as engineers and installers. The methodology implemented is described, in order to be used as a guideline for the definition of standard sizing procedures for solar cooling systems. As exemplary cases, the results for three different climates (Athens, Berlin and Ryiad) are also presented

Early death in Munchausen Syndrome: a case report

This case contributes to raising awareness and understanding of the complex clinical presentations of Munchausen syndrome (MS). Education of staff to the seriousness and genuineness of this disorder should be implemented, especially in hospital units, in order to detect such complex clinical situations quickly and accurately, preventing iatrogenic risks
