A device to characterize optical fibres
ATLAS is a general purpose experiment approved for the LHC collider at CERN.
An important component of the detector is the central hadronic calorimeter; for
its construction more than 600,000 Wave Length Shifting (WLS) fibres
(corresponding to a total length of 1,120 Km) have been used.
We have built and put into operation a dedicated instrument for the
measurement of light yield and attenuation length over groups of 20 fibres at a
time.
The overall accuracy achieved in the measurement of light yield
(attenuation length) is 1.5% (3%).
We also report the results obtained using this method in the quality control
of a large sample of fibres.Comment: 17 pages 20 figeres submitted to NIM journa
ORGANIZATIONAL, LEGAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGE
The article discusses organizational and legal aspects of electronic health information exchange in developed countries, particularly, introduction of electronic medical records in the United States and Europe, as well as topical issues related to standardization of information technologies in health care. We briefly describe the most popular standards used in e-medicine, such as Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM), openEHR and HL7. The questions of syntactic and semantic interoperability in the exchange of electronic medical records and some aspects of the digital signature use are also considered. We suggest mechanisms for implementation of electronic document management and sharing of digital medical information, as one of the most important directions of information technologies in health care. It is noted that today, the main limiting factor in providing the digital exchange of health information in Russian Federation is unresolved legal issues, i.e. the absence of a legal framework of electronic medical records share. At the same time, the level of IT development in our country is quite sufficient to meet current challenges. It is stated that, despite the unresolved number of problems (for example, completeness of medical data on a patient, given to relatives in critical situations), the adoption of a single electronic card is able to bring medical care to a new level, especially in emergency and urgent medicine
Study of the process with SND detector at the VEPP-2M collider
In experiment with the SND detector at VEPP-2M collider the
cross section was measured in the energy range
=0.60--1.38 GeV with the integrated luminosity of 27.8 pb. The
measured cross section is well described by the vector meson dominance model
with contributions from the , , ,
resonances and agrees with results of previous
measurements. The decay probabilities \BR(\phi\to\eta\gamma),
\BR(\omega\to\eta\gamma) and \BR(\rho\to\eta\gamma) were measured with the
accuracies better than or comparable to the world averages.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, 5 table

Review of experimental results from SND detector
The review of experimental results obtained with SND detector at VEPP-2M
collider in the energy region -- 1.38 GeV is given.
The presented results include the following items: studies of the light vector
mesons radiative decays, OZI-rule and G-parity suppressed -meson rare
decays, -meson parameters measurements, studies of
process dynamics, and mesons rare
decays, and mesons conversion decays, and study of the
annihilation into hadrons.Comment: 12 pages and 6 figures. Talk given at the IX International Conference
